Destiny 2 The Witch Queen: All Lucent Moth Locations

Since The Witch Queen launched with so much to do and explore, it can be difficult to know where to start. There’s the challenging Legendary Campaign, a slew of weapons to craft, new Exotics to unlock, and of course, The Vow of the Disciple Raid. Many of these secrets and unlockables are rooted in Savathun’s Throne World, including hints of strange-looking Lucent Moths.

What are these Lucent Moths? Why are they important? Where do you find them? We’ll answer all of those questions in this article and give you step-by-step directions to track down those pesky bugs.

Let’s get started!

What Are Lucent Moths in Destiny 2?

Lucent Moths are collectible items only available in the Throne World. They’re very similar to the Penguins that were present as part of Beyond Light. They’re littered throughout the patrol space and have no quest associated with them, and you’re only given hints toward their locations.

Once you find them, you’ll need to head back to your new turncoat Hive Ghost friend, Fynch, and head into the cave to his right. There, you’ll notice random pieces of paper (which actually give you the general location) where you can then place your newfound glowing friends.

How Many Lucent Moths Are There?

As of the release of The Witch Queen, there are currently ten Lucent Moths available to find. Not all of them were originally available at the start — you actually had to wait each week after the release of the main expansion for two more to be released. Now, more than five weeks later, you have the ability to seek out and collect all ten in whatever order you’d like.

Where to Find all 10 Lucent Moths

As mentioned before, you can get the general location of each Lucent Moth by checking the sheets of paper in the cave near Fynch. While some of these are easy to come across, others can be a grind to uncover or require you to play specific activities.

To expedite your search, here is our step-by-step guide for finding each Lucent Moth location.

1. Quagmire Lucent Moth Location

The first Lucent Moth is located fairly close to the spawn point in Savathun’s Throne World. Head toward the Extraction Lost Sector and look for a cave that opens up naturally in your path. You’ll see the Lucent Moth stuck behind a shield to the upper left, as well as a Hive Wizard and a handful of other enemies that spawn in. Defeat them to drop the shield and collect your Moth.

2. Alluring Curtain Lucent Moth Location

While this is technically the third Lucent Moth, it’s on the way to the Apothecary Moth’s location, so you’ll want to grab it first. Head into the main Throne World keep and immediately go to the route that wraps around the structure to the right.

Follow this fairly linear path toward the Apothecary until you come across a Hive Wizard named Ir Olena the Moth Keeper in a large courtyard. Defeat this Wizard and you’ll immediately collect your Moth.

3. Apothecary Lucent Moth Location

After defeating Ir Olena, use the Deepsight Node to the left to reveal platforms that you took for “The Last Chance” mission. Follow this path, and you’ll eventually reach the Apothecary. Head up the curving walkway until you reach the outer wall with two bunkers on opposite sides.

Head all the way across the bunker on the far side, where you’ll come across five destructible runes. Take them out and you’ll find the Moth sitting on the stairs.

4. Temple of the Wrathful Lucent Moth Location

This is another Lucent Moth that you can pick up on the way to the next. To start, head straight out from Fynch toward the open cave area where a Public Event spawns in the Quagmire. You’ll see a crevice to the left that will take you deeper underground toward the Temple of the Wrathful.

Destroy as many miasmic lanterns as necessary to light your path until you come across an open room with a bunch of Scorn and a portal to the right. Head through the portal and you’ll immediately come across more Scorn and another shielded Lucent Moth perched atop a rock. Kill them all and claim your prize.

5. Temple of the Cunning Lucent Moth Location

After getting the Temple of the Wrathful Moth, turn to your left and head along the path that circles the central tower. Keep following it until you come across a large room with a giant propped-up plate in the center. You’ll see the Lucent Moth sitting on one of the pillars directly in front of it.

6. Miasma Lucent Moth Location

This Lucent Moth must have been doing some sightseeing, since it’s sitting right out in the open. From the spawn point, head through the path on the left toward the Miasma past the actual name on the map. Look for the broken tower, pass it, and start scanning the large trees nearby. You’ll see the Lucent Moth sitting in one of the branches. Jump up on the trunk and you should be able to reach it in another one or two leaps.

7. Witch’s Echo Lucent Moth Location

Stay in the Miasma for this one, since you’ll need to venture into the cave system below. Head inside the broken tower and look for an underground opening to the left. Follow the path through the cave, staying to the left side and ignoring the portal. You’ll eventually come across a semi-open room with another smaller room with Scorn to the left.

Kill them and look for the Deepsight node on the right side of the room. Activate it and you’ll see the Lucent Moth sitting in a collapsed door near two Hive canisters on the left-hand side.

8. Florescent Canal Lucent Moth Location

This one is pretty simple and just requires you to head all the way over to the Florescent Canal. Look for the fountain with Thrall statues and lowers, and you’ll see the Moth circling around them on a plate. Chase it down and pick it up.

9. Court of Thorns Lucent Moth Location

This is one of the only Moths that isn’t easy to get when Patrolling. Instead, you’re better off running the Wellspring activity. Since this mission flips the map depending on if you’re attacking or defending, you’ll need to pay attention to the direction you need to head to find it.

While defending, head to the room to your immediate left and look for the Moth in the hands of a Hive statue. If you’re attacking, you’ll need to wait until you reach the end and head to that same room, which is now on your right. In either case, you’ll need to jump on top of the statue to pick this one up.

10. Altars of Reflection Lucent Moth Location

The last Lucent Moth is available by playing the randomized Altar of Reflection mission that pops up on your map. You’ll need to play through it until you reach the final boss encounter in the large room with multiple platforms to your right and left.

The Deepsight node you’ll need to activate is located on a balcony to your right. This will spawn platforms leading to the Moth, which is sitting right above the door that you entered. Jump across these platforms until you stand right next to it and pick it up.

Why Collect All the Lucent Moths?

Now, you may be asking yourself, “Why should I collect all of these Lucent Moths?” There’s no specific quest, no obvious reward, and it takes a bunch of time to track them all down. While the rewards may not be obvious, there are a handful of early and end-game benefits to be aware of. Here’s why you should collect all ten Lucent Moths.

Complete the Lepidopterist Triumph

The simplest benefit is that you’ll collect all of the Lucent Tales book pages and complete the Lepidopterist Triumph. This will provide you with additional lore insights with unique, almost poetic stories related to different background characters.

Completing this Triumph will also get you one step closer to finishing the Gumshoe Seal for The Witch Queen. This will be necessary if you want to unlock the full seal and gain the ability to equip a title associated with the expansion. This is more about bragging rights than anything else, and worth pursuing as you clean up parts of the expansion.

Part of a Seasonal Challenge

As an added bonus, if you collect at least three Lucent Moths, you’ve already wrapped up 50% of the Rippling Wings Seasonal Challenge. Destroy three Darkness Rifts to finish this up and earn a major experience boost in the process.

Gain Reputation With Fynch

Speaking of experience boosts, there’s actually a benefit to collecting these Lucent Moths earlier rather than later. This is due to the massive amount of experience you’ll gain after placing a single Moth. You gain so much reputation with Fynch, that even as high as Rank 17, you’ll go up almost an entire level with just one Moth.

This is great for grinding out early rep levels to unlock specific Perks or hold off until the last few levels to knock them out by just turning in a few Moths.

Join the High Ground

While collecting Lucent Moths may not seem vital on the surface, there are plenty of benefits that make these short treks worth it. With this guide in hand, it can be something you wrap up in as little as an hour. Collecting them all will get you one step closer to that elusive Triumph, and the Witch Queen title you can use to show off your prowess.
