The 9 Most Fun Exotics to Use in Destiny 2

Deviate from the meta and experiment with these exotics.

Destiny 2 is all about optimizing damage, figuring out the meta, and doing whatever you can to get the slightest edge. Sometimes. But there are also times when it’s good to forget about whatever is “good” and just have fun. Exotics were never meant to be exclusively meta and amazing weapons. Sometimes they’re just meant to be unique. They’re weapons with a story to tell, and these are the most fun ones out of all of them! (In no particular order.)

Sweet Business

There are very few things in Destiny 2 more fun than revving up Sweet Business. Mini-guns are just cool, nothing more to be said about it. And while there is Heir Apparent with a similar model, Sweet Business uses primary ammo, so you can spam it all you want. While it’s not really meta, Sweet Business is one of the most satisfying weapons in the game to use. And it’s actually really strong against ads or even other Guardians in PVP (especially in Control), so it’s not like it’s terrible or anything.

Back before we had infinite primary ammo, I found this weapon more frustrating than anything. But these days, it’s easily one of the most fun weapons in Destiny 2.

Witherhoard

Witherhoard is awesome for a few reasons. One is how easy it is to use, which while not directly related to “fun”, still helps. You really don’t have to think at all to use Witherhoard. Just shoot it at the nearest group of enemies and they’ll be gone in seconds. The other reason it’s fun, though, is how you can combine it with other weapons. Any weapon that does damage over time gets the added bonus of letting you hot swap to other weapons like Snipers to keep adding on more and more damage.

Witherhoard is actually really fun in PVP as well, even though it isn’t very good there. You can fire it on top of objectives and control points, try and get direct one-shot kills on Guardians, or just use it to troll people. It’s always fun and it isn’t so powerful that it feels unfair (far from it), so I always recommend it for the PVP players who don’t take themselves too seriously.

Conditional Finality

Conditional Finality gets a lot of bonus points here for its aesthetic. Just look at this thing! With fire coming out of one chamber and ice from the other, it’s one of the best looking Exotics in addition to one of the most fun. The cool thing about Conditional Finality is its ability to both ignite and freeze enemies. The first shot ignites them, and the second one leaves enemies frozen via Stasis. You’re able to stun any kind of Champion you want with it, do massive chunks of damage thanks to these effects, and even do DPS with it (under the right circumstances).

Then there’s the PVP experience. In PVP, there’s hardly anything more fun than grabbing multi-kills thanks to the status effects from Conditional Finality. And it’s not even hard to do. Shotguns are already powerful enough in PVP, but one that does this is just amazing.

Forerunner

As one of Bungie’s best references to Halo in Destiny 2, Forerunner has a major advantage. For anyone nostalgic for the old Halo magnums back when the series was still good, this is the best weapon in the game (aesthetically, at least). But it’s also incredibly fun to use, just like its Halo counterparts. It has great sound effects, does really high damage for a Sidearm, and it has one of the more fun catalysts in the game. With the catalyst, Forerunner enables you to throw frag grenades, just adding on to all the impressive things this weapon can do.

Ticuu’s Divination

Ticuu’s might not be the best overall bow (although it is quite good), but it is easily the most fun. The gimmick with Ticuu’s Divination is that you have to hip-fire a shot to “stick” enemies with an explosive that will detonate once they are shot again by Ticuu’s. After the second shot, they’ll blow up for massive damage. This promotes a style of gameplay unlike any other bow, and easily earns it a spot in the most fun Exotics category. Ticuu’s is solid in terms of its damage, but not the best. But it more than makes up for it by being so unique.

Jötunn

Jötunn is one of the most fun Exotics because of how easy it is to use in PVP, along with how powerful it is. It’s often called “the toaster” due to its appearance, which is a great example of how it feels to use as well. To fire Jötunn, you hold down for a second to cook up a heat-seeking one-shot kill in PVP. Since it’s a Fusion Rifle, you will be very limited on ammo. But as long as you get good at peeking corners right when it’s about to fire, you can almost always pick up a few easy kills and make your opponents as mad as possible.

Anarchy

I’ll never forgive Bungie for gutting Anarchy so hard. While its glory days in Season of the Splicer were obviously too much (RIP Breach and Clear), I don’t think they had to make it so much worse. These days it’s a shell of its former self. That being said, it’s still so much fun to use. You just shoot a high-HP enemy with it twice, then you can run around doing whatever else you want while damage ticks down. These days you’ll have to pair it with something else like a Sniper or Fusion Rifle to really optimize damage, but even that is still more fun than most other strategies. Nothing was ever more fun than the fire and forget style of old Anarchy, and you can still get a bit of that with it today.

Dragon’s Breath

My main reason for putting Dragon’s Breath on here is how awesome its effects are. When you shoot a boss with a fully charged Dragon’s Breath shot, it’s just pure fun to watch all the explosions flying around everywhere while it ticks away damage. It’s pure chaos, and it fits perfectly with the majority of Solar builds. It isn’t perfect, but the high damage does make it a solid option for hard content as well, especially with the catalyst.

Sunshot

Sunshot might just go down as one of the best Exotics of all time in Destiny. And on top of that, it’s pure fun to use. Just shoot kill one ad to start a huge chain reaction of explosions, taking out most ads near and doing tons of damage to other enemies as well. It almost feels unfair how powerful Sunshot is, especially when you’re able to combine it with other Solar effects. Since Solar has been the best subclass type for a while now (or at least one of the best), this thing has been glued to my inventory for longer than I can remember. In all honesty, even if it wasn’t good, with how fun it is I’d still be using it.
