Destiny 2: Renewal Grasps Stasis Hunter Build Guide

Freeze your foes solid with this Renewal Grasps Stasis Hunter Build!

The Stasis subclass is one of Season 23’s chosen favorites so I figured now was the best time to make a Stasis Hunter build. Renewal Grasps is pretty much the only Stasis-specific Exotic available to Hunters right now, so it was my first choice for the build.

This build excels mostly in crowd control, but can also dish out quite a bit of damage under the right circumstances. Fair warning, this build will struggle a bit against Barrier Champions, so I suggest dedicating a member of your fireteam to dealing with barriers while you handle the Unstoppable and Overload champions.

Build Overview

The build’s focus is on using our Duskfield grenades as a utility item. Debuffing enemies by reducing their damage, or buffing ourselves and allies with resistance while standing in the Duskfield. These are the two primary advantages this build provides use. Next to that, the build has built-in healing and Overshield through Whisper of Rime, and loads of crowd control thanks to the subclass’s powerful Keywords.

Gameplay Loop

  • Throw Duskfield Grenade
  • Use shatter the Stasis spawned from the grenade to trigger Whisper of Shards effect
  • Hit enemies with your Withering Blade melee ability to gain grenade energy.
  • While grenade energy is recharging, kill red bar enemies with Verglas Curve to stack Hail Storm Arrows
  • Use Hail Storm Arrows to spawn additional Stasis Crystals to either deal damage to enemies, trigger Whisper of Shards, or Whisper of Chains.
  • Once your grenade ability is back, repeat this process.

The only recommended weapon I have for this build is our Exotic Primary; Verglas Curve. This Exotic Stasis Bow has the ability to Freeze targets hit by its Hail Barrage Arrows. It can also Spawn Stasis Crystals using the same arrows when aimed at a surface instead of an enemy. This build would not function quite as well without this Exotic so I can’t recommend it enough!

Abilities

  • Silence and Squall (Super): Deals very good damage while also freezing targets inside its ice storm.
  • Withering Blade (Melee): A long-ranged melee ability (my favorite kind) that slows targets hit by it. A great way to Shatter already frozen targets or to stun Overload Champions quickly
  •  Gambler’s Dodge  (Class Ability): Used to refresh our melee ability. Only refreshes the first charge not the second.
  •  Duskfield Grenade: Creates a cloud of Stasis energy that slows and freezes targets trapped inside.

Aspects

Grim Harvest is our first Aspect and it grants us three Fragment slots. This Aspect will spawn Stasis Shards from killing Slowed or Frlozen targets. Touch of Winter is our second Aspect and it grants our Duskfield Grenade increased size while also spawning a Stasis Crystal wherever the grenade lands.

Fragments

  • Whisper of Chains: Standing near a frozen target of Stasis Crystal grants us 50% damage reduction. Great for staying alive in those tough situations.
  • Whisper of Hedrons: Provides a plus 60 stat increase to three of our main stats as well as a sizable increase to weapon stability, aim assist, and airborne effectiveness.
  • Whisper of Shards: Provides a massive boost to our grenade regen rate after Shattering a Stasis Crystal.
  • Whisper of Conduction: Stasis Shards will track to your location once you get in range of them.
  • Whisper of Rime: Grants use health and a Void Overshield whenever we pick up a Stasis Shard.

Armor Mods

Our armor mods this time around have a focus on Super generation and keeping us alive. While the build does have some built-in healing, I like running some additional mods that ensure we can stay alive when things get really dangerous.

  • Hands-On: Grants Super energy for every melee kill you get.
  • Thermodynamic Siphon: Generates a consistent amount of Orbs from our Solar and Stasis weapon kills. (Requires Seasonal Artifact)
  • Firepower/Hands-On: Generates Orbs from our Grenade/Melee kills.
  • Harmonic Reserves/Solar Reserves: Gives our weapons additional ammo reserves. Use either or based on your special and heavy weapon preferences.
  • Elemental Charge: Makes our Stasis Shards generate armor charge.
  • Recuperation: Grants healing whenever you pick up an Orb of Power.
  • Orbs of Restoration: Not entirely necessary, but this keeps our ability topped off with energy so think of it as extra insurance to make sure you always have an ability ready when you need it.
  • Reaper: Another source of Orbs that is triggered by our class ability.
  • Bulwark Finisher: You can find yourself at low health quite often with this build so having a full Void Overshield heal on-demand can be absolutely life-saving.
