Destiny 2: Guardian Games 2025 Guide

Everything you can expect from this year's Guardian Games.

Guardian Games is nothing new to Destiny 2, but this year’s version of the event features a brand new game mode, as well as some new (and some returning) loot. In this article I’ll take a look at the loot pool, the new game mode, and also the returning PVP mode as well! Let’s get right into it by taking a look at the Guardian Games 2025 loot.

Guardian Games 2025 Loot

Guardian Games loot is only available during the three-week duration of this event, so get it while you can! There’s only one new weapon this year (Keraunios) but personally I think it’s pretty solid. The rest of them are returning weapons, but they’re still worth checking out while you have the time.

Keraunios (Arc Trace Rifle)

Recommended Roll (PVE): Overflow + Detonator Beam or Jolting Feedback

Keraunios is a really solid adaptive frame Trace Rifle. Since Arc is so good this season, I wouldn’t be surprised to see it used in some higher-end content. Overflow keeps its ammo overfilled, so it’s the clear pick for the first perk slot. I like either Detonator Beam or Jolting Feedback in the other slot, but it’s hard to pick a favorite. Detonator Beam is great for taking out ads while also damaging elite enemies, but Jolting Feedback is great if you don’t already have a good way to jolt enemies. Either is good, but I think Detonator Beam is just a bit better most of the time.

Hullabaloo (Arc Heavy Grenade Launcher)

Recommended Roll (PVE): Voltshot + Chain Reaction or Rolling Storm

As a wave frame Grenade Launcher, Hullabaloo excels at ad-clear. Voltshot is a strong perk on this weapon since it makes your wave of damage even more powerful and synergizes with Arc abilities. The other perk slot is a bit more contested. Chain Reaction is generally one of the best perks for wave-frame Grenade Launchers since it makes the AOE even larger, but the new Rolling Storm perk is hard to ignore. If you already have a way to generate Bolt Charge, I don’t think it’s better than Chain Reaction. But if you really need more Bolt Charge, it’s a solid option. Titans with Storm’s Keep probably don’t need it, but other classes might want to consider it.

Taraxippos (Strand Scout Rifle)

Recommended Roll (PVE): Fourth Time’s the Charm + Explosive Payload

Recommended Roll (PVP): Lone Wolf, Zen Moment, or Keep Away + Explosive Payload or Kill Clip

Taraxippos is a lightweight frame Scout, so it’s fast and reliable. For PVE, its roll is pretty straightforward. Fourth Time’s the Charm makes it easy to stay loaded, while Explosive Payload is simply one of the best perks in the game for just about every weapon. PVP has more options, though. Lone Wolf gives multiple improvements, including ones for aim assist, ADS speed, and airborne effectiveness. These bonuses are then increased when not near allies, so it excels in 3v3 modes where that’s easier to accomplish. Zen Moment is also strong, as it reduces recoil and flinch while causing damage. It’s better during 1-on-1 fights, but not quite as strong overall in my opinion. Keep Away is similar to Lone Wolf in that it gives bonuses when by yourself, but it gives them to range, accuracy, and reload instead. I think Lone Wolf is the strongest, but none of those are bad options. The other slot is still dominated by Explosive Payload, but Kill Clip is there if you prefer it.

The Title (Void SMG)

Recommended Roll: Repulsor Brace + Destabilizing Rounds

As an aggressive frame SMG, The Title currently suffers from the same issue as almost all SMGs right now–not enough damage. It’s just hard to recommend using a legendary SMG at the moment, and even most Exotic ones with a few exceptions are struggling. But if you do want to use it, I recommend the Repulsor Brace + Destabilizing Rounds roll, as it’s really the only viable one. Repulsor Brace lets you get an overshield when you defeat a Void-debuffed target, and Destabilizing Rounds allows you to make targets volatile (a Void debuff). So they work really well together.

Heir Apparent (Exotic Solar Machine Gun)

Heir Apparent is the annual Guardian Games Exotic weapon, as it always has been. Its special Exotic perk is Armor of the Colossus, which grants an Arc shield while you spin up the weapon at full health. In PVE, this is a helpful way to survive damaging attacks, and since Machine Guns are so good right now, this is a great time to use it. It isn’t exactly meta, but it’s definitely good enough to see some use. In PVP, it’s a lot funnier. Honestly I don’t think it’s worth the Exotic slot in PVP, but I can’t deny how funny it is to run around with a massive shield.

Guardian Games 2025 Game Modes

Boss Rushdown (PVE)

The new Boss Rushdown game mode is the most exciting part of the event this year. It puts players against five different bosses from various past activities. Most come from previous campaign missions or other non-raid/dungeon encounters. My favorite thing about it is that it gives us the chance to face off with some “forgotten” enemies that don’t ever get featured anymore.

There are three difficulties for Rushdown: warm-up, normal, and expert. Warm-up is just meant to introduce you to the mode, and if you haven’t played against some of these bosses already it might be a good idea to learn them here. In the other two modes, you’ll have to deal with limited revive tokens. This makes it especially punishing if anyone on your team doesn’t know the encounters, as they can cause the team to wipe almost by themselves. Expert difficulty is simply the harder difficulty and doesn’t change too much from normal outside of the damage being higher.

Each day, the bosses in Rushdown will change. You’ll encounter many of the same ones from day to day, but the order in which you’ll fight them changes. If you’re struggling, I’d recommend waiting for a day when the bosses aren’t too hard. There are quite a few bosses in the pool, so some days will be very easy while some might feel almost impossible.

Supremacy (PVP)

While the PVE activity is new and exciting, PVP players just get Supremacy again. The event version is the same as normal Supremacy, requiring players to pick up “crests” from enemies. Enemies drop a crest on the ground when you defeat them. It’s basically just Kill Confirmed from Call of Duty. The only difference in the event version is that you’ll play with a fireteam of Guardians that all share the same class. So Titans vs Warlocks, Hunters vs Titans, etc. Personally I do not enjoy this game mode at all as a Warlock main, but Hunters and Titans are both pretty solid in it. Although I’d argue Hunters are the obvious winners most games.

Guardian Games 2025 Event Card and Medallions

Medallions

Bungie / Brett Moss

Medallions are your primary way to unlock rewards from Guardian Games. You can get them from completing activities while wearing your Guardian Games class item (a concept I truly hope they change now that it messes up Exotic Class Item builds), but the more direct way to get them is by completing the Contender Cards sold by Eva Levante. Here is a list of each Contender Card and what kind of Medallion they award:

  • Contender Cards: Vanguard Playlists (Gold)
  • Contender Cards: Crucible (Gold)
  • Contender Cards: Gambit (Gold)
  • Contender Cards: Seasonal Content (Gold)
  • Platinum Cards: Trials (Platinum)
  • Platinum Cards: Nightfalls (Platinum)
  • Platinum Cards: Raids (Platinum)
  • Platinum Cards: Higher Difficulty Seasonal Activities (Platinum)
  • Platinum Cards: Lost Sectors (Platinum)
  • Diamond Cards: Endgame PVE (Diamond)
  • Diamond Cards: Trials (Diamond)
