Destiny 2: The 7 Best Seasonal Weapons from Episode: Revenant

Worth every bit of the grind.

At the end of the day, new weapons are some of the most exciting new additions we get each season (or episode now). Episode: Revenant features a nice list of weapons including some reprised ones that are definitely worth checking out. Here are 7 new weapons from Episode: Revenant that I recommend grinding for!

Note: For each weapon, I’ll be including both the recommended main traits for the PVE and PVP God Rolls when applicable. Some weapons don’t really have a PVP God Roll (or not a good one), so I’ll leave those off on some. I won’t be including barrel and magazine perks (or their equivalent) since they’re so subjective that I’d personally recommend looking into all of them.

Chroma Rush (Auto Rifle)

  • How to Get: Seasonal Activities
  • PVE God Roll Perks: Subsistence / Kinetic Tremors
  • PVP God Roll Perks: Kill Clip or Target Lock / Dynamic Sway Reduction

Chroma Rush has been one of my favorite auto rifles ever since its introduction in Season of the Splicer (which is still my favorite season as well–bring back Override!). And while the old version remained useful, this new reprisal couldn’t be much better if it tried. It’s just fantastic. Kinetic Tremors on an auto rifle is awesome, as it allows it to chew through powerful enemies much more effectively than before. And still having Subsistence is a huge bonus. As a 720 RPM rapid-fire frame auto rifle, you get a good balance of high firing rate and solid ammo reserves. It’s an auto rifle that’s perfect for mid-range shootouts, which is exactly what I want from this type. For PVP, it’s standard roll of Kill Clip or Target Lock and DSR works great for a really well-balanced yet effective weapon. This might just be the best weapon from Episode: Revenant, which is really saying something.

VS Velocity Baton (Grenade Launcher)

  • How to Get: Vesper’s Host Dungeon
  • PVE God Roll Perks: Demolitionist / Attrition Orbs

VS Velocity Baton is another addition to the slowly-growing pool of area denial frame grenade launchers (the Witherhoard type). I really love this archetype a lot, so it’s nice to see another one added. With these, you just shoot your grenade and it leaves a damaging pool that stays for a short time. Or, you can shoot an enemy directly to apply the damage to the enemy themselves. Demolitionist is a standard GL perk that works on any of them that don’t have an auto-reloading perk, like this one. But Attrition Orbs is the star of the show here. It gives you an Orb of Power whenever you deal sustained damage, which is pretty much all this thing does. It’s an all-star GL in a season with amazing Artifact perks for the weapon type, so I really like it for this season (and probably future ones, too).

VS Chill Inhibitor (Grenade Launcher)

  • How to Get: Vesper’s Host Dungeon
  • PVE God Roll Perks: Envious Arsenal / Bait and Switch

It’s easy to explain why Bitter Sweet is so good. It has two perks that synergize perfectly with one another for massive, consistent DPS. Envious Arsenal reloads the weapon fully whenever you deal damage with your other two weapons before readying it, and Bait and Switch gives you a damage boost when you do damage with all three of your weapons in a short time. When paired together, you’ll be able to keep firing with the damage boost until whenever you run out of ammo. It’s an impossible-to-ignore DPS weapon, so it’s an obvious choice.

Gridskipper (Pulse Rifle)

  • How to Get: Seasonal Activities
  • PVE God Roll Perks: Repulsor Brace / Destabilizing Rounds
  • PVP God Roll Perks: Lone Wolf / Headseeker

Well, well, well… if it isn’t another Season of the Splicer weapon. Gridskipper was always good, and now it’s better than ever. For PVE, I really like the Repulsor Brace + Destabilizing Rounds combo. You’ll be able to make enemies volatile after killing nearby ones, then get an overshield when you kill those de-buffed ones. It really is a perfect synergy that makes this weapon a ton of fun to use, as well as very effective at every level. For PVP, I’m going with Lone Wolf and Headseeker. Lone Wolf gives a boost to aim assist, ADS speed, and airborne effectiveness. It also gives even more of those bonuses when you have no nearby allies. Then Headseeker gives you bonus aim assist and precision damage after landing body shots.

Ancient Gospel (Hand Cannon)

  • How to Get: Garden of Salvation Raid
  • PVE God Roll Perks: Rampage or Destabilizing Rounds / Explosive Payload
  • PVP God Roll Perks: Rampage or Lone Wolf / Explosive Payload or Kill Clip

I love this weapon because it gives me a reason to play Garden of Salvation again. In PVE and PVP, the Rampage + Explosive Payload combo is amazing. Rampage’s damage stacks are perfect for PVE, but perhaps even better when you manage to activate them in PVP. If you struggle with getting kills in PVP, though, Lone Wolf is also a solid option. Explosive Payload is just great on every hand cannon in every kind of activity. It splits half of the weapon’s damage into AOE which also does a small amount of bonus damage (less so in PVP). This also effectively increases its range since that damage has no fall-off. If you don’t like it in PVP, I’d recommend Kill Clip. It pairs well with Rampage and is always reliable for some extra damage after getting a kill.

VS Pyroelectric Propellant (Auto Rifle)

  • How to Get: Vesper’s Host Dungeon
  • PVE God Roll Perks: Attrition Orbs or Eddy Current / Jolting Feedback
  • PVP God Roll Perks: Killing Wind or Fragile Focus / Target Lock or Kill Clip

This thing has some excellent synergy which carries it into a great spot. Attrition Orbs and Eddy Current are both good options for the first column, but Jolting Feedback is the star of the show. It jolts targets after repeated damage, which is great in Nightfalls or other activities with Overload Champions to stun. It’s a really strong PVE weapon with nothing too gimmicky to drag it down. In PVP, I’d say it seems a bit more average, but still good. Killing Wind, Fragile Focus, Target Lock, and Kill Clip are all very strong PVP perks, so you can really use this weapon however you want there.

Alethonym (Grenade Launcher)

How to Get: Season Pass (Free and Paid Sides)

Exotic Perks:

  • Harvester Spike: Makes the weapon fire a spike projectile. Final blows with it spawns a Vestige on the enemy’s location, with more powerful enemies making more.
  • Vestigial Alchemy: Makes the weapon gain energy when you pick up Vestiges and spawns ammo for you and your team. Special ammo mode unlocks at half energy, and heavy ammo mode starts at full energy. You can switch between having your Vestiges spawn special or heavy ammo by clicking your alternate weapon action button.

Alethonym is kind of complicated, but it boils down to this: kill enemies with it to spawn “Vestiges” which you can pick up to gain weapon energy. At 50% energy, you can make it spawn special ammo on top of enemies killed with it for your team (and you). At full energy, you can make it spawn heavy ammo instead. This is a fantastic weapon for generating as much ammo as possible, which is always important in high-tier content. Plus, it’s a primary ammo grenade launcher, so it’s cool by default. It’s certainly a very specific weapon in what it does, but that’s what makes it so good.
