Destiny 2: Season of the Deep Weapons Roundup

Season of the Deep has arrived, bringing along a ton of new weapons! These weapons are tied to various aspects, ranging from fresh seasonal content to the staple playlists of Destiny 2. There are three primary categories of new weapons introduced this season: the weapons from the new seasonal activity, the seasonal Reckoning weapons, and the returning Last Wish weapons. In this article, we’ll be doing a roundup of these new Season of the Deep weapons, while also discussing potential god rolls.

So, without further ado, let’s dive right in!

Deep Weapons (Seasonal Activity Weapons)

Just like Commander Sloane, the new seasonal activity weapons have a Taken theme! They’re also modeled after the Reckoning weapons that are also tied to new seasonal content. To get these weapons, just play the new seasonal activities Salvage and Deep Dive. Then, you can focus engrams from the H.E.L.M.

There’s six of these to look at, but first let’s check out their origin trait:

  • Deep weapon origin trait: Unsated Hunger (Increased handling, reload speed, and stability when no abilities are fully charged. Swords gain increased guard resistance and charge rate instead.)

Targeted Redaction (Hand Cannon)

Another Taken-inspired Hand Cannon? Yes please. Even though it’s a 120 Hand Cannon, this thing can do a ton of damage. For PVE, Outlaw and Explosive Payload is a classic roll with very little downsides. Collective Action is a new perk that grants a damage bonus when you pick up elemental pickups (Ionic Traces, Firesprites, etc.), so it’s certainly worth checking out. There’s also good potential for PVP here, with several possible god rolls.

PVE God Roll:

  • Barrel: Chambered Compensator, Smallbore, or Corkscrew Rifling
  • Magazine: Steady Rounds or Accurized Rounds
  • Perk 1: Outlaw
  • Perk 2: Explosive Payload, Destabilizing Rounds, or Collective Action

PVP God Roll:

  • Barrel: Hammer-Forged Rifling or Smallbore
  • Magazine: Accurized Rounds or Extended Mag
  • Perk 1: Outlaw, Invisible Hand, or Perfect Float
  • Perk 2: Keep Away or Explosive Payload

Rapacious Appetite (SMG)

Rapacious Appetite

Stasis weapons with Headstone will always have a place in someone’s build. Rapacious Appetite is a fairly solid PVE option for those Stasis users out there, but it isn’t anything crazy. For non-Stasis builds, it’s just all-round average. But for Stasis builds, it might be one of the better SMGs you could use.

PVE God Roll:

  • Barrel: Chambered Compensator or Corkscrew Rifling
  • Magazine: Ricochet Rounds
  • Perk 1: Envious Assassin or Fourth Time’s the Charm
  • Perk 2: Target Lock, Frenzy, or Headstone

Different Times (Pulse Rifle)

Different Times

Rapid-fire frame Pulse Rifles tend to be fairly middle of the road in Destiny 2. This one does have the benefit of being a Strand weapon, though, which is still somewhat unique. It also has a good perk pool, including versatile options like Outlaw and more specific ones like Hatchling and Headseeker. You could take this into either PVE or PVP, as long as you have the right roll.

PVE God Roll:

  • Barrel: Chambered Compensator, Smallbore, or Extended Barrel
  • Magazine: Armor-Piercing Rounds, High-Caliber Rounds, or Ricochet Rounds
  • Perk 1: Subsistence or Outlaw
  • Perk 2: Focused Fury or Hatchling

PVP God Roll:

  • Barrel: Hammer-Forged Rifling or Smallbore
  • Magazine: Ricochet Rounds
  • Perk 1: Moving Target or Outlaw
  • Perk 2: Headseeker

Until Its Return (Shotgun)

Until Its Return - Season of the Deep Weapons Destiny 2
Image: Bungie via HGG / Brett Moss

Until Its Return is amongst the first shotguns to get the new Collective Action perk, but there isn’t much notable here other than that. If rapid-fire frame Shotguns ever get a solid buff, then this will certainly be a weapon to revisit. But for now, it’s just mostly underwhelming.

PVE God Roll:

  • Barrel: Full Choke or Corkscrew Rifling
  • Magazine: Tactical Mag
  • Perk 1: Auto-Loading Holster or Overflow
  • Perk 2: Trench Barrel, Vorpal Weapon, or Collective Action

A Distant Pull (Sniper Rifle)

A Distant Pull

We’ve already talked about the Collective Action perk a lot, and we’re gonna keep talking about it. Since A Distant Pull is a rapid-fire frame Sniper, you’ll be able to take maximum advantage of all those Collective Action stacks. Just pick up some Stasis Shards or other elemental pickup, and you’ll be firing off shots with massive damage.

PVE God Roll:

  • Barrel: Chambered Compensator or Arrowhead Brake
  • Magazine: Tactical Mag
  • Perk 1: Triple Tap or Overflow
  • Perk 2: Collective Action or Explosive Payload

PVP God Roll:

  • Barrel: Arrowhead Brake
  • Magazine: Accurized Rounds
  • Perk 1: Keep Away
  • Perk 2: Opening Shot

Thin Precipice (Sword)

Thin Precipice - Season of the Deep Weapons Destiny 2
Image: Bungie via HGG / Brett Moss

This Sword looks awesome, but legendary Swords are still just miles behind the competition. Collective Action could result in solid builds, as could Chain Reaction if you need a Sword for add-clear. Perhaps there’s a way to make it work, especially if a Strand Sword is something you’ve been looking for.

PVE God Roll:

  • Blade: Jagged Edge or Hungry Edge
  • Guard: Swordmaster’s Guard
  • Perk 1: Tireless Blade, Unrelenting, or Relentless Strikes
  • Perk 2: Collective Action or Chain Reaction

Reckoning Weapons

The Reckoning weapons are also located at the H.E.L.M., from the same vendor as the Deep weapons. They also cost a Deep Engram to focus, which is kind of odd, but it’s better to have the more simplified system we have now. To get these weapons, you’ll have to fish. The new fishing minigame is truly what Destiny 2 has needed all these years, and thankfully it has good loot attached to it.

Reckoning weapon origin trait: Disaster Plan (Picking up ammunition increases this weapon’s flinch resistance and range, which lasts until it is fired again. Swords gain a large increase to charge rate instead.)

Spare Rations (Hand Cannon)

Spare Rations

Spare Rations is the first of the Reckoning weapons. There isn’t too much going on here, but the Rapid Hit / Kinetic Tremors combo is quite great in PVE. If you want to try Spare Rations in PVP, perks like Kill Clip or Opening Shot are amongst the best to use on Hand Cannons.

PVE God Roll:

  • Barrel: Corkscrew Rifling
  • Magazine: Ricochet Rounds
  • Perk 1: Rapid Hit
  • Perk 2: Kinetic Tremors

PVP God Roll:

  • Barrel: Hammer-Forged Rifling
  • Magazine: Ricochet Rounds
  • Perk 1: Moving Target or Slideshot
  • Perk 2: Kill Clip or Opening Shot

Bug-Out Bag (SMG)

Bug-Out Bag
Image: Bungie via HGG / Brett Moss

Bug-Out Bag is a new 900 RPM SMG, and those are always great. Incandescent has been one of the best perks since its arrival, and Collective Action is just as exciting. Pair either of those with Subsistence or Threat Detector for a really fun, effective SMG.

PVE God Roll:

  • Barrel: Corkscrew Rifling or Chambered Compensator
  • Magazine: Ricochet Rounds
  • Perk 1: Subsistence or Threat Detector
  • Perk 2: Incandescent or Collective Action

Outlast (Pulse Rifle)

Outlast - Season of the Deep Weapons Destiny 2
Image: Bungie via HGG / Brett Moss

Just like with the previous rapid-fire Pulse on this list, this one is also fairly average. If you like rapid-fire Pulses with perks like High-Impact Reserves or Dragonfly, this is a perfectly good weapon to use. It’s also one of the coolest looking Reckoning weapons.

PVE God Roll:

  • Barrel: Chambered Compensator, Corkscrew Rifling, or Smallbore
  • Magazine: Ricochet Rounds, High-Caliber Rounds, or Armor-Piercing Rounds
  • Perk 1: Outlaw
  • Perk 2: Dragonfly or High-Impact Reserves

PVP God Roll:

  • Barrel: Hammer-Forged Rifling or Smallbore
  • Magazine: Ricochet Rounds
  • Perk 1: Rangefinder or Keep Away
  • Perk 2: Kill Clip

Last Man Standing (Shotgun)

Last Man Standing
Image: Bungie via HGG / Brett Moss

Last Man Standing is a Shotgun with One-Two Punch, so there’s gotta be a place for it in someone’s loadout. While the meta as a whole has recently been unkind to Shotguns (in PVE at least), there are still certain activities and places where they’re great. For those activities (like Gambit, lower level PVE, etc.), Last Man Standing is worth checking out.

PVE God Roll:

  • Barrel: Rifled Barrel or Smoothbore
  • Magazine: Assault Mag
  • Perk 1: Opening Shot or Threat Detector
  • Perk 2: One-Two Punch

Sole Survivor (Sniper Rifle)

Sole Survivor - Season of the Deep Weapons Destiny 2
Image: Bungie via HGG / Brett Moss

Sole Survivor is an adaptive frame Sniper with a pretty average perk pool. Voltshot is a great perk, but on Snipers it doesn’t get to fully shine. Firing Line is always good, but it does require a certain playstyle. There also isn’t much going on that would make it good in PVP, so we’re not really sure where this will fall in the meta.

PVE God Roll:

  • Barrel: Chambered Compensator or Corkscrew Rifling
  • Magazine: Appended Mag, Ricochet Rounds, or Armor-Piercing Rounds
  • Perk 1: Rapid Hit, Field Prep, or Lead From Gold
  • Perk 2: Firing Line or Voltshot

Just in Case (Sword)

Just In Case
Image: Bungie via HGG / Brett Moss

This Sword is fairly forgettable, and it doesn’t even have the cool Taken aesthetic of Thin Precipice. Incandescent is an add-clear perk, so only take it if you plan to use it that way. Otherwise, Whirlwind Blade is a much better general use option. Perk 1 has several good options, so that does make this Sword more viable. There are a lot of options and versatility here, which is better than nothing.

PVE God Roll:

  • Blade: Hungry Edge or Enduring Blade
  • Guard: Balanced Guard
  • Perk 1: Tireless Blade, Unrelenting, or Relentless Strikes
  • Perk 2: Incandescent or Whirlwind Blade

Reprised Last Wish Weapons

The trend of old raid weapons getting updated continues! The Last Wish weapons are some of the most beautiful in Destiny 2, so it’s amazing to see them back in the fold. It’ll take a while for players to get their hands on craftable versions, but it’ll be exciting to see how these reprised weapons affect the meta in the near future.

Last Wish weapon origin trait: Explosive Pact (This weapon gains bonus stability and reload speed when activating a grenade ability. Healing grenades and grenade final blows grant additional stacks of the bonus.)

Age-Old Bond (Auto Rifle)

Age-Old Bond - Season of the Deep Weapons Destiny 2

Age-Old Bond is a high-impact Auto Rifle, meaning it shoots really slowly but does more damage. It also has the amazing combo of Repulsor Brace and Destabilizing Rounds. For Void builds in PVE, this weapon has massive potential to be one of the best loadout picks.

PVE God Roll:

  • Barrel: Chambered Compensator or Corkscrew Rifling
  • Magazine: Tactical Mag
  • Perk 1: Repulsor Brace
  • Perk 2: Destabilizing Rounds

Tyranny of Heaven (Bow)

Tyranny of Heaven
Image: Bungie via HGG / Brett Moss

Incandescent and Collective Action make this Bow a lot more exciting than many. Its options in the first perk column are the standard good Bow perks you expect (especially Archer’s Tempo), but the other slot puts it over the top.

PVE God Roll:

  • Barrel: Tactile String or Agile Bowstring
  • Arrow: Carbon Arrow Shaft or Compact Arrow Shaft
  • Perk 1: Dragonfly or Archer’s Tempo
  • Perk 2: Incandescent or Collective Action

Techeun Force (Fusion Rifle)

Techeun Force - Season of the Deep Weapons
Image: Bungie via HGG / Brett Moss

If you’re in need of an Arc Fusion Rifle, Techeun Force is a pretty good choice. Reconstruction and Rewind Rounds are the two best reload perks in Destiny 2, so having the option of either on one weapon is amazing. Controlled Burst is also great for PVE, so we just have to hope adaptive frame Fusions get a bit of a buff. (Also, the Slideways / Kickstart PVP roll has some really cool synergy, so it’s worth checking out just to try it.)

PVE God Roll:

  • Barrel: Arrowhead Brake or Chambered Compensator
  • Battery: Accelerated Coils
  • Perk 1: Rewind Rounds or Reconstruction
  • Perk 2: Controlled Burst

PVP God Roll:

  • Barrel: Arrowhead Brake
  • Battery: Accelerated Coils
  • Perk 1: Slideways
  • Perk 2: Kickstart

Nation of Beasts (Hand Cannon)

Nation of Beasts
Image: Bungie via HGG / Brett Moss

Nation of Beasts was always a good weapon back when the original version was new, and luckily it’s only gotten better! Voltshot is great to see since it always holds up in any content, as does Explosive Payload. Going into PVP, Keep Away and Kill Clip are definitely going to grab you some kills!

PVE God Roll:

  • Barrel: Chambered Compensator or Corkscrew Rifling
  • Magazine: Tactical Mag
  • Perk 1: Dragonfly
  • Perk 2: Voltshot or Explosive Payload

PVP God Roll:

  • Barrel: Hammer-Forged Rifling or Smallbore
  • Magazine: Accurized Rounds
  • Perk 1: Keep Away, Opening Shot, or Perpetual Motion
  • Perk 2: Kill Clip or Voltshot

Chattering Bone (Pulse Rifle)

Chattering Bone - Season of the Deep Weapons
Image: Bungie via HGG / Brett Moss

The renewed Chattering Bone truly got some really great perks. For PVE, Rapid Hit and Kinetic Tremors is a fantastic roll, and you can even substitute Rampage in if you prefer it. There are also a handful of great PVP perks, including Rangefinder, Keep Away, and Headseeker!

PVE God Roll:

  • Barrel: Arrowhead Brake, Corkscrew Rifling, or Chambered Compensator
  • Magazine: Tactical Mag or Appended Mag
  • Perk 1: Rapid Hit
  • Perk 2: Kinetic Tremors or Rampage

PVP God Roll:

  • Barrel: Hammer-Forged Rifling or Smallbore
  • Magazine: Accurized Rounds
  • Perk 1: Rangefinder, Keep Away, or Kill Clip
  • Perk 2: Headseeker

Apex Predator (Rocket Launcher)

Apex Predator

New Solar Rocket Launchers are always nice to have, especially when they have perks like these. Reconstruction is great on Rocket Launchers, and Bait and Switch is a really interesting new perk (for this weapon type). Explosive Light proved itself as one of the strongest perks available after the Orbs of Light changes, so it’s always a good option too!

PVE God Roll:

  • Barrel: Confined Launch or Volatile Launch
  • Magazine: Impact Casing
  • Perk 1: Reconstruction
  • Perk 2: Bait and Switch or Explosive Light

The Supremacy (Sniper Rifle)

The Supremacy - Season of the Deep Weapons
Image: Bungie via HGG / Brett Moss

The Supremacy is an interesting Sniper, since both Kinetic Tremors and Bait and Switch are great perks with very different feels. You can completely change the way this weapon plays depending on what perks you take, so make sure and use ones you really like. Bait and Switch, in particular, can be easy to forget about in intense situations. Just stay aware and this Sniper should do well.

PVE God Roll:

  • Barrel: Arrowhead Brake or Chambered Compensator
  • Magazine: Extended Mag
  • Perk 1: Rewind Rounds
  • Perk 2: Kinetic Tremors or Bait and Switch
