Destiny 2: 9 Best New Weapons in The Final Shape

The Final Shape has been one of the best expansions so far for Destiny 2, but how good are the weapons?

With The Final Shape comes a whole collection of brand new weapons to seek out. This year sees some of the most exciting new weapons in a long time, including several weapons so unique they’re hard to even describe. It’s been a long time since we’ve had so many cool weapons release at once, so it really is an exciting time to be on the hunt for them! Here are my picks for the 9 best new weapons in The Final Shape.

The Call

How to Get: Pale Heart Activities

PVE God Roll:

  • One for All, Golden Tricorn, Hatchling, or Vorpal Weapon
  • Beacon Rounds or Subsistence
  • High-Explosive Ordnance
  • Countermass, Smart Drift Control, Linear Compensator, or Quick Launch

If you watched or took part in any of the day-1 raid festivities, you no doubt saw The Call everywhere. This weapon has taken over D2 by storm, as it’s the second Rocket-Assisted Sidearm, and it has incredible perks. The new Beacon Rounds perk is, in my opinion, by far the most exciting perk for The Call. Not having to aim makes everything easier (obviously), but it actually works far better than expected. Even if you prefer Subsistence or another perk, the sheer amount of options in both columns puts this one over the top.

Red Death Reformed

How to Get: Season Pass

Pre-Determined Roll:

  • Fitted Stock
  • Inverse Relationship
  • High-Caliber Rounds
  • Full Bore

As soon as I got my hands on this thing, I spent at least two or three campaign missions using it nonstop. However, as a Warlock, I personally felt like I just didn’t need the extra healing. That’s the downside to this healing machine–it’s only good if you need the healing. Warlocks have their incredible Healing Grenades and Rift to rely on already, but if you’re looking for a way to survive through intense ad-clear waves, this is a great go-to. Since it heals you with every kill, all you have to do is make sure to keep clearing enemies to stay alive. It’s a really fun weapon to use and I’m excited to try it out in Lost Sectors and some other solo content.

Still Hunt

How to Get: “Wild Card” Exotic Quest

Pre-Determined Roll:

  • Short-Action Stock
  • Sharpshooter
  • Golden Munitions
  • Polygonal Rifling

Still Hunt might genuinely be the most exciting weapon ever added to Destiny 2. This weapon has the ability to fire actual Golden Gun rounds after building up a meter by landing precision shots. This allows it to put out super-level DPS after just a few warmup shots, which is honestly unbelievable. I don’t have any idea how Bungie thought this would be balanced (they probably didn’t), but I’m glad they decided to just let us have fun with this one. If you haven’t gotten this yet, I absolutely recommend getting it before any inevitable nerfs.

Lost Signal

How to Get: Episode: Echoes Activities

PVE God Roll:

  • Reverberation or Demolitionist
  • Auto-Loading Holster or Lead From Gold
  • High-Velocity Rounds
  • Quick Launch or Smart Drift Control

New Grenade Launchers are always nice, but a new frame too? This new frame is basically a type of Grenade Launcher similar to Witherhoard in that they leave pools of damage on the ground instead of instantly blowing up. With Reverberation, the AOE gets even bigger as well. This thing is destined to be great for ad-clear, even though its damage is nowhere near Witherhoard’s.

No Hesitation

How to Get: Pale Heart Activities

PVE God Roll:

  • Circle of Life
  • Physic
  • Flared Magwell or Tactical Mag
  • Corkscrew Rifling or Arrowhead Brake

There are several notable things about No Hesitation, but the main one to know is that it’s the best support weapon in the game (not named Lumina). The new Support Frame allows you to fire it at allies after building a charge to heal them, which is truly a game changer for raids and other difficult activities. It’s especially strong in any activity with revive tokens where each death matters more. Plus, there’s the Circle of Life perk, which gives a damage boost after “rapidly healing allies”, and Physic, which grants Restoration after healing allies. Really, everything about this weapon is custom built for support builds, so it’ll be great for Warlock builds all over the place.

Origin Story

How to Get: Vanguard Activities

PVE God Roll:

  • Onslaught, Target Lock, or Kinetic Tremors
  • Demolitionist or Attribution Orbs
  • Flared Magwell, Armor-Piercing Rounds, or High-Caliber Rounds
  • Corkscrew Rifling, Arrowhead Brake, or Chambered Compensator

Here’s another Auto Rifle that perfectly fills the “middle of the road” role. It’s not a highly standout weapon, but it does have several great rolls and it’s very easy to get. If you really like one of the rolls here and need a solid precision frame Kinetic Auto Rifle, this is a great weapon to pick up. The new Onslaught perk (which increases RPM after kills) makes it more exciting, and since the perk is actually really good too, it might just push Origin Story up out of the middle of the pack.

Axial Lacuna

How to Get: Gambit Activities

PVE God Roll:

  • Controlled Burst or Incandescent
  • Reconstruction
  • Enhanced Battery or Accelerated Coils
  • Corkscrew Rifling or Arrowhead Brake

Axial Lacuna is another addition to the pool of great Fusion Rifles, which I’ll never complain about. As a precision frame Fusion Rifle, it fires slowly but more precisely. Controlled Burst is great for precise Fusion Rifles, and Reconstruction is good on everything. I personally like this type of roll on Fusion Rifles I plan to use exclusively against bosses, but since this is a precision frame, I’d say it’s better off used against high-HP yellow bars. That makes it perfect for Gambit or some Nightfalls, and as a Gambit weapon, that seems fair enough.

Ergo Sum

How to Get: “Destined Heroes” Quest

Possible Rolls:

  • Frames: Vortex, Caster, Wave Sword, Lightweight, Aggressive
  • Guard: Balanced, Burst, Enduring, Heavy, Swordmaster’s
  • Blade: Hungry, Enduring, Honed, Jagged, Tempered
  • Intrinsic: Wolfpack Rounds, Gathering Light, Sacred Flame, The Perfect Fifth, Arc Conductor, Stormbringer, Unplanned Reprieve, Insectoid Robot Grenades

Ergo Sum is, easily, the most unique weapon this year. It might not look too crazy at first, but its potential for crazy rolls is unbelievable thanks to how many of its aspects are randomized. In addition to being the first special ammo Sword, Ergo Sum also has randomized perks and a random Intrinsic Trait and frame. That’s right, randomized Intrinsics and Frames. We haven’t ever seen that before, but it allows for some of the most “interesting” gameplay yet. Wolfpack Rounds on a sword? Absolutely.

While the best rolls for this weapon will be hard to narrow down due to this, I think it’s really worth trying all of them thanks to the traits.

Better Devils

How to Get: Crucible Activities

PVE God Roll:

  • Explosive Payload or Hatchling
  • Reconstruction
  • Tactical Mag or Flared Magwell
  • Corkscrew Rifling, Arrowhead Brake, or Chambered Compensator

PVP God Roll:

  • Kill Clip or Opening Shot
  • Moving Target or Rapid Hit
  • Accurized Rounds
  • Hammer-Forged Rifling

Sometimes it’s just nice to have more weapons with a million good perks. This weapon isn’t really the best in any one category, but it’s wide range of perks keeps it relevant anyway. In PVE it has Explosive Payload and Reconstruction, which has a lot of potential for activities like GM Strikes where you might not mind spending a while on a single enemy. In PVP, Kill Clip and Opening Shot in the second column make it an easy pick for Hand Cannon fans.
