GTA VI: Top 5 Things I Want to See in The Online Mode

GTA VI may not be approaching as quickly as we'd like it to, but that gives Rockstar Games more time to tune into the player feedback loop.

Grand Theft Auto VI is one of the most highly anticipated games to be announced in 2023. Everyone is holding their breath and keeping their eyes on Rockstar as they wait for them to release the highly anticipated sequel to Grand Theft Auto V, one of the best open-world games ever made.

With that in mind, I feel that now is the perfect opportunity to share what I think Rockstar should do with GTA VI’s version of GTA Online. Here in this article, I’ll be counting the Top 5 Things I Want to See in The Online Mode of GTA VI! Strap yourself in, there’s a lot we have to cover here.

#5 – More RPG Elements

Some people may disagree with me on this, but I do really love the idea of RPG elements in GTA VI Online. We got some of them in Red Dead Online: such as the ability to choose cards that affect your playstyle, as well as a morality system that affected what missions you could do. It felt like RDO only scratched the surface, and there’s a lot of unique stuff we could do with a GTA game.

It would be great to have something similar to the ability cards in RDO, letting you choose your playstyle. This would work great in a multiplayer game since you could coordinate with your friends to decide who is the support, who is a tank, etc. It would also be cool for Rockstar to make stats more meaningful, and to provide more bonuses for leveling up your stats.

#4 – Map Changes Depending on Player’s Actions

The world of GTA V Online has always felt static to me. Even with all the new content being added over the years, it still feels like the player doesn’t have that big of an impact on the world, even though they can become very rich and powerful. It would be interesting if Rockstar could find a way to make the player’s actions have more meaning, changing the map depending on what choices they make.

Maybe if you rob a convenience store often enough, eventually it will go out of business and you’ll have to find another place to steal from. Or maybe if you purchase a run-down property and convert it into something nice, it will visibly change on the outside and more NPCs will surround the business to buy from you. I always hated how when we bought a property, it’s appearance could only be changed on the inside, not the outside.

#3 – Customizable Player-Controlled Gangs

One idea for GTA VI Online that I’ve had for a while is the idea of player-controlled gangs. Think of something like the motorcycle club you can become president of, but much more customizable and much more closely tied to progression. Imagine you could pick the theme of your gang: you could be street racers, a motorcycle club, or maybe even a mafia-type of organization.

Then, you’d be able to complete story missions to level up your gang, just like how you can level up roles in Red Dead Online. This would unlock more story missions, as well as unique bonuses and cosmetic items exclusive to the type of gang you chose. Then when Rockstar adds more businesses through DLCs, you could control and manage those businesses through your gang, allowing you to really feel like you are in control of your own criminal empire.

#2 – Balanced Replayable Content

When it comes to online multiplayer games, the content needs to be as replayable as possible. If you’re going to be grinding for money, then you don’t want to get bored playing the same missions again and again. GTA V Online was pretty hit or miss in this regard. Some content was very repetitive while other content was highly replayable, such as the Diamond Casino Heist which gave the player lots of options for how to approach the mission.

But even then, the Diamond Casino Heist didn’t feel that balanced. There were some pathways or methods that were noticeably much easier and faster to do. So even though you had lots of options for how you wanted to approach the mission, oftentimes players would just do the same method again and again. For GTA VI Online, we need content that is both replayable AND balanced.

#1 – A Fresh Start

And finally, the MOST IMPORTANT thing Rockstar can give us in GTA VI’s online mode is simply a fresh start. What I mean by this is that I don’t want a player’s progress to be transferred over from GTA V Online to GTA VI Online. Everyone should have to start from nothing, and there should be no money or progress transferred over from GTA V’s online mode.

If anything was transferred over from GTA V’s online mode, it would completely ruin the progression of the game. I love the feeling of working my way up the ladder, building a criminal empire from nothing. I don’t want to be just given a bunch of money I made from the previous game and to be able to buy everything from the get-go.
