GTA 5 Online: Taxi Business & Missions Guide

One of the most interesting things announced with the Los Santos: Drug Wars DLC was that a brand new taxi business would be coming to GTA 5 Online. Now that it is finally here, players can finally get started as professional taxi drivers, escorting the people of Los Santos to a variety of different locations.

But just how do you get started with this brand-new taxi business? Can you make any good money with it? And what are some tips and tricks to get the most out of this new business? We will be covering all of these questions and more in this guide for the new taxi business in GTA Online.

GTA Online: Taxi Business Guide

Without any more delays, let’s hop right into this complete walkthrough for the brand-new taxi business!

How to Get Started & Location

Let’s get something out of the way, first. Despite what the name may suggest, this is not a business that you can purchase yourself. Instead, you will be working for a preexisting company in the game, the Downtown Cab Co. This is the same Taxi company that you can purchase as Franklin in the single player mode. It’s a bit disappointing that we can’t buy, upgrade, and customize our own taxi business in GTA Online, but oh well.

In order to get started as a taxi driver, first you will need to wait to receive a text message from the Downtown Cab Co. saying that they are looking for new drivers. Once you receive this text message, you can head on over to the company’s building.

But where’s the location of the Downtown Cabo Co. in GTA 5 Online? Conveniently, it’s located very close to the Diamond Casino (home to the heist of the same name). You can find it by looking for the taxi cab icon on the map. Head to the location and walk up to the front door of the business to get started.

Thankfully, you do not need to purchase a taxi cab from Warstock Cache & Carry to be a taxi driver. Just by walking into the business, you will spawn outside with a taxi automatically. However, if you want to use your own taxi, you can. Simply get inside your taxi and you’ll be given the opportunity to start doing missions.

Taxi Missions & Making Money

Now that we’ve discussed how to get started, let’s explain how exactly taxi missions work in GTA 5 Online and how you can make money. When you start a mission, a person will announce over dispatch that they’ve found a new customer for you to pick up nearby.

A blue icon of a person will appear on the map. Drive over to that person, honk your horn, and they will get inside of your taxi. After they get in, they will show you on the map where they need to be dropped off.

Just drive them to that location as quickly as you can, while navigating around city traffic and trying not to crash your car. These missions are pretty simple and easy to complete. There is almost no variation between missions aside from who you are driving and where you are taking them. You don’t have to worry about getting shot at by NPCs, and other players in GTA Online are given no incentive to attack you (not that they need one, anyways).

When it comes to getting paid for taxi work, your payment is split into two ways. There is the base cab fare, as well as the tips that they offer you. The base pay is pretty low, usually around $100. Thankfully, the tip is always at least $1,000.

The amount of money you make will increase with each mission that you complete in a row, peaking after you drop off a total of 10 customers. Once you stop doing cab work, the amount of money you make will be set back to it’s default for the next time you start up the missions.

Tips & Tricks

As previously mentioned earlier in this guide for the taxi business in GTA Online, the missions for taxi work are pretty straightforward and easy to do. There really isn’t a meta-strategy to making money, aside from just not doing it and doing something else instead. However, there are still a few good tips we can offer you to help you make the most out of being a taxi driver.

  • Tip #1: Don’t purchase the taxi cab for sale on Warstock. If you are tempted to purchase the newly added taxi from Warstock, don’t. Not only is it overpriced ($650,000 just by default, and exactly $487,000 if you unlock the trade price for it), but you can’t even customize it! The better taxi to get, if you want your own, would be the one you can get by reaching Sponsorship Rank 25 in the Arena Wars DLC.
  • Tip #2: Don’t crash into things when driving, otherwise your tip will be reduced. While you need to deliver customers to their destinations as quickly as possible in order to make money efficiently… you shouldn’t be completely reckless. If you crash into a wall or another car while driving, this will startle your customers. They will respond to this by reducing the amount of money they tip you, reducing your cash earnings.
  • Tip #3: Have your other businesses making you money while you do taxi work. The taxi business is not the best way to make money in the game (it’s actually one of the worst). But one nice thing about it is that it is very relaxing. So if you want to make money while also doing taxi missions to chill out, you can restock your properties/businesses in the game before getting started with a taxi mission. That way, you will be at least making some good money while you do the missions.
