GTA Online is an action-packed shooter with a huge variety of weapons. It features everything from illegally manufactured SMGs, to hard-hitting shotguns, and even explosive RPGs! Probably the last type of weapon you’d consider getting — but one you should still own — is a deadly melee weapon.
Melee weapons may not have as much value as something like an assault rifle, but they are still plenty of fun to use. Considering the variety of designs, they can add a touch of personality to your loadout. In today’s article, we’ll be ranking every melee weapon in GTA Online!
Every Melee Weapon in GTA Online, Ranked From Good to Best
Before continuing, it should be noted that since the stats of melee weapons are (in practical terms) identical, we’ll mostly be ranking based on appearance. With that out of the way, let’s get right into the article!
16/16
Hammer
Kicking off our list, let’s talk about the Hammer. The hammer is a simple but satisfying weapon to use. It will cost you exactly $500 to buy, which is pretty expensive for a hammer but hardly anything for GTA Online players. The design is more or less what you’d expect — it has a long wooden handle with a dark gray head up at the top.
Like several other weapons on this list, you can also find and use them in the single-player mode. It’s definitely a cool weapon to pick up if you are a collector and want to get every weapon in the game.
15/16
Nightstick
For our next pick, we have every security guard’s favorite toy, the Nightstick! This is an all-black nightstick with a design traditional for this type of weapon. It is one of the cheapest things you can buy in the game, available for only $100, with no hidden fees included!
The Nightstick is a fun weapon to use, but much like most melee weapons, it lacks any sort of special utility or abilities to make it a very unique or effective weapon. I’ve seen players who play on RP servers use it to role-play as a police officer, so if that is something you’re interested in, this could be a great weapon for that.
14/16
Golf Club
Taking spot number thirteen on our list, we have the Golf Club. It looks like your traditional golf club, with a black handle and a metal model. It’s pretty basic in the sense that there are no added details to it, but it still looks really good. This weapon has been in the game since day one of Grand Theft Auto 5’s lifecycle.
Sadly, you cannot find this weapon at any gun store across San Andreas. The only way to get it is by picking it up when you find it out in the wild. The Los Santos Golf Club is where you can find plenty of them. If you’re doing the assassination mission that takes you there, you’ll get one when you pick up the golf gear inside the main building.
13/16
Bottle
Next up we have a pretty unique weapon, but it’s still a fun one to use. It’s the Bottle! This special weapon first came to GTA Online during the late 2013 update, Beach Bum. It is a green bottle of beer that has been broken to reveal sharp jagged edges. It has 20 damage and a 15 attack rate.
While I don’t know how practical this weapon would be to carry around in real life, I imagine it’s still a very effective weapon for fighting off enemies. If you love getting into bar fights or starting heated arguments in the street, this is the perfect weapon for you.
12/16
Hatchet
Next up, let’s take a moment to talk about the Hatchet! This weapon will set you back a mere $750, which is mere pennies in GTA currency. The Hatchet was brought over to the game in late 2014.
The design of it is pretty good. It’s a dirty, worn-down weapon with a dirty wooden handle and a sharp blade on top of it. Some people may prefer a cleaner version, but others will be more into this look as it’s more gritty and realistic. Regardless, I think the one we did get looks pretty good in-game.
11/16
Crowbar
For our next spot, we have the Crowbar. I really like the crowbar, as every time I see it, it makes me think of the Half-Life games. While not as useful in GTA Online, it still looks just as great. The stats for this thing are 10 for damage and 15 for its rate of attack.
Interestingly, this is not a weapon that you can just pick up from any Ammu-Nation. The only way to get your hands on it is by finding it somewhere out in the game world. This seems like it would be a great “collectible” for people who like exploring the map of GTA V.
10/16
Switchblade
Now for our next weapon, the Switchblade! This is a cool-looking knife with a black handle and a sharp metal blade. This is one of the few melee weapons in the game that has some customization to it. You can’t do a whole lot with it, but you can change it to different colors, which is pretty cool.
The Switchblade first came to the game around the holidays in late 2015 alongside the Executives and Other Criminals DLC for GTA Online. It features 15 damage and a rate of attack of 20. It was added to the Ammu-Nation store when it came to the game, and it costs a total of $1,950.
9/16
Pool Cue
Next up on our ranking, we have the Pool Cue! It is sold for a whopping price of $6,250, which is crazy for a pool cue. Still, it’s a classy and stylish-looking weapon that you can find out in GTA’s map. The weapon is a long wooden pool cue with a stand and brown color palette. It definitely looks nice, but it’s not exactly an intimidating weapon to use.
This is one of several other melee weapons which came out in October 2016 for the Bikers DLC. So if you are roleplaying as a biker character, then this might be a great weapon for you to pick up!
8/16
Baseball Bat
Up next on our ranking of every melee weapon in GTA Online, it’s the Baseball Bat. This is a pretty simple but classic weapon you’ve seen be used by plenty of other GTA protagonists before. So it shouldn’t be a surprise that the weapon comes back in GTA Online.
This time around, instead of its regular wooden design, the Baseball Bat is an aluminum gray with what looks like some sports insignia on it. The weapon has been in the base game since day one, and instead of being available at a gun store, it can only be acquired by finding it out in the game world.
7/16
Machete
Up next on our list we have the Machete. This is a pretty okay-looking weapon. I’m not really a fan of machete’s period, but many people like the look of one, and Rockstar did an excellent job of remaking it in-game. This particular weapon has 15 damage and 15 rate of attack. You can purchase the weapon for $8,900 from any gun store.
The first time this weapon was available in the game was back in 2015 when it came out for the Lowriders update. In addition to the online mode, it can also be purchased in single-player mode.
6/16
Pipe Wrench
Taking our next spot on every melee weapon in GTA Online ranked, we have the Pipe Wrench! This unique weapon was one of several added in October 2016 for the Bikers DLC. It looks like your standard mechanical wrench, with a mostly red color scheme. The weapon sadly can’t be used to repair your vehicles, but it can be used to pummel opponents into red paste!
I really love this weapon as it reminds me of Jack’s iconic wrench from Bioshock. This tool is sold at any Ammu-Nation on the map, and it will cost you exactly $7,150 to buy. Its stats aren’t the best, with only 10 damage and a rate of attack of 15.
5/16
Knuckle Dusters
For spot number five, we have the Knuckle Dusters! The Knuckle Dusters is a pretty iconic weapon in GTA, which has been in the series for a long while. It is a beautiful brass color with engravings carved into the metal. Not only this but you can customize it to be a different color, which is pretty cool.
This weapon first came to GTA Online in 2015th during a summer update. Ever since then, it has been available for purchase for $7,500.
4/16
Knife
For the next pick on our ranking, let’s go over the Knife! The Knife is a pretty simplistic, yet effective melee weapon for all players. It is very, very cheap, costing only $400. It’s been in Grand Theft Auto V since the very first day the game came out and has been an iconic part of the GTA series for several games.
The design of the knife is a black handle with a shiny metal blade. The back of the blade features sawteeth, perfect for cutting through difficult surfaces. Despite its simple design, it is a good-looking melee weapon that would go great with any loadout in GTA Online. The knife has a damage of 15, and a rate of attack of 20.
Honorable Mention: Flashlight
Next up, we have our first and only honorable mention: the Flashlight! This is not really a melee weapon, but it is classed as one in-game. Rockstar added this special tool back in late 2015 for a special Halloween update. It’s a pretty basic-looking black flashlight with no interesting details on it. Points for realism, I guess?
Jokes aside, this is actually a pretty cool tool to have in some parts of the map (but not very many). There is an abandoned mineshaft far away from Los Santos that players love to explore using this flashlight. Despite its ability to light up the dark, you can get the same effect with a flashlight mod on one of your weapons, so it isn’t the most useful item in the world.
3/16
Battle Axe
For spot number three on our ranking, let’s talk about the Battle Axe. This is a really badass-looking piece of equipment. It features an all-black color scheme, with a long wooden handle and a sharp blade on the end. It’s a really well-designed modern take on an ancient weapon, and it’s one of my favorites in the game!
This weapon can be picked up for an exact sum of $9,500, which is a little spendy for a melee weapon but incredibly cheap compared to all other weapons in the game. This first came to GTA Online in October 2016, which is the time that the Bikers DLC was released to the public. The stats for its damage and rate of attack are both 15.
2/16
Antique Cavalry Dagger
My second-favorite melee weapon in GTA Online is the Antique Cavalry Dagger! This beautifully designed and unique weapon features a beautiful handle made of wood and (I think) bronze, with an engraved blade. It’s just oozing with detail, and it’s without a doubt the prettiest melee weapon in the game. If you’re interested in buying it, it will cost you $2,000.
Players have been able to get this weapon since Summer 2014 when it first became available in the I’m Not a Hipster update. The weapon features 20 damage, combined with a good rate of attack. This could be a great weapon to carry around with you if you are role-playing a mafia-like character for GTA Online.
1/16
Stone Hatchet
Taking the gold medal on our ranking, we have the Stone Hatchet! This is an obvious choice for spot number one. The weapon is a primitive-looking stone axe. It came to the game during the summer of 2018 alongside the After Hours DLC. This is a weapon that was used to promote the release of Red Dead Redemption 2.
The Stone Hatchet takes spot number one because of this unique ability: when you kill an enemy with it, your character will enter a state called Rampage. While you are in this state, your health will be buffed and it will take a lot more damage to kill you. Additionally, the rate at which your health regens will be noticeably increased! This is really the only melee weapon you’ll ever need in GTA Online.
