GTA Online is a game all about starting a criminal enterprise and becoming a powerful crime lord in Los Santos. In your journey to make it big, you’ll own everything from an underground smuggling business to a high-tech bunker that manufactures illegal arms. But don’t get too far ahead of yourself. In this GTA Online weed farm guide we talk about the best locations, upgrades, and how to secure the best payout.
If you’re just starting out, you may want to consider something small and more affordable. That’s where the weed farm lands in GTA Online. This is a simple but profitable business that every player should own. And here in this guide, we’re going to be going over everything you need to know to get this business up and running.
Without any more delays, let’s jump straight into the guide!
Overview + Getting Started
To start us off, let’s discuss what exactly the weed farm is and what you can do with it. The weed farm is a property that you can purchase and use to grow weed. This can later be sold either to dealers in small amount, or in bulk in a sale mission. You can only own one weed farm at a time. Additionally, weed farms are a type of Motorcycle Club business. This means that in order to own one, you’ll have to first purchase a MC Clubhouse and become president of a motorcycle club.
To do this, first go to the in-game website “Maze Bank Foreclosures.” From here, select the “Clubhouses” tab. There will be many different clubhouses available. I suggest just buying the cheapest one. This is located in Chumash (which is to the southwest of Sandy Shores) and will cost you $200,000. You can also buy one that is closer to your other businesses if you are willing to fork out the extra cash, but this is not needed.
Once you’ve purchased a clubhouse, you will now need to head to that location and go inside. Go to your office and sit down at the desk with the big computer monitor on top of it. From here, you will be able to purchase and manage your MC businesses, which includes your weed farm. Go to the weed farm tab and then look at your options. There are four different locations for you to choose from. But which one is the best…?
Best Weed Farm Location to Buy
Out of all the four locations, only one of them is worth getting. The one that I recommend you get is the “San Chianski Mountain Range” weed farm. This is the cheapest one and is available for only $715,000. Not only is this the cheapest option, but’s also the best for making you money.
The reason for this is that when you sell weed from this business, during the sale missions all of your drop-off locations will be more closely clumped together. If you buy a location in Los Santos and sell from one of them, you’ll be taken into the countryside where travel time between each drop-off location is much higher.
Best Weed Farm Upgrades to Buy
Now that you’ve purchased your weed farm and completed its respective setup mission, you can now start growing weed! But before you do that, you should make sure to purchase the right upgrades in order to get the most bang for your buck. Head inside the weed farm and go to the back of the room, then turn right. In the next room will be a laptop that you can purchase business upgrades from. There are three of them in total, and I’ll be going over each one of them.
- Equipment Upgrade: With this purchase, your equipment that you use to grow weed will be improved. This increases the quality of your product, allowing you to sell it for much higher profits. This is a must-have upgrade if you want to make good money from your weed farm’s delivery missions. This should be the first upgrade that you get.
- Staff Upgrade: The Staff Upgrade gives you much harder working employees. With these new employees, they will be better trained and are able to produce your product at a much faster rate. This is a good upgrade to get once you’ve gotten the other two upgrades. You will be able to make a higher profit per hour, making your weed farm more efficient. I do not recommend this upgrade if you are just going to rely on drug dealers to sell your weed.
- Security Upgrade: This upgrade improves the security of your weed farm. Armed guards will now appear inside your business to act as muscle. When you purchase this upgrade, the chances of your business getting raided are decreased significantly. In case you don’t know what a raid is, basically it’s where you get a notification saying your business is under attack or has had product stolen. You’ll need to drop what you’re doing and do a mission to get your product back, or you will lose everything. I strongly recommend getting this upgrade to minimize the amount of times you get raided.
Acquiring Supplies
In order for the weed farm to generate product, it will need supplies to produce said product. After you’ve set up the business, it will come pre-stocked some supplies so you can start growing weed right away. But eventually, this will run out and you will need to get more. You can get more through one of two ways: completing a supply mission or purchasing the supplies. You can do either one from the laptop inside your weed farm we mentioned earlier.
The supply missions are fairly short missions that will require you to go to a location, kill some NPCs, and pick up some supplies and deliver them back to your weed farm. They are fairly easy to do, but time-consuming, and they don’t give you that many supplies. Purchasing supplies on the other hand is much faster, and will fully re-stock your business. However, it will cost you $75,000. I recommend you just purchase the supplies, as you can use the saved time to do other money-making activities.
Selling Overview + Drug Dealers
Now that you’ve purchased the business, upgraded it, and given it some time to make your product, you can finally sell some of your drugs and begin reaping the rewards of your hard work. As previously mentioned, there are two ways to sell your product (there’s also a third way to make money that doesn’t involve selling what you produce, but more on that later). You can sell your product either by interacting with drug dealers or by launching and completing sale missions.
Drug dealers–also known as street dealers–are NPCs that spawn throughout the map. They appear in locations such as back alleyways and in places hidden from view of the street. You can find them by looking for the purple chat bubble on the map. Their exact location is not shown to you immediately, and you will need to drive close to them before the icon appears on the map. There can be only three drug dealers on the map at once, and their spawn locations will change every single day.
I recommend that you look up online where their locations are for the day instead of looking for them yourself, as that can get time-consuming. Once you do find them, approach them and interact with them. This will open up a menu from which you can sell some of the drugs your business has produced. If you own any of the other MC businesses, you can sell product from them as well, but right now we are only interested in weed. Select the option and you can sell a small amount of weed.
Sale Missions + Nightclubs
The next way to sell your product is through sale missions. This is the way most people make their money. It involves going inside your business once your weed farm is fully stocked and interacting with the laptop. From there, you can launch a delivery mission to sell your goods. While you can do this solo, it’s recommended you get at least two friends to help you. These missions often feature multiple vehicles you’ll need to drive to the drop-off points in a short time limit.
Also, there are other players on the map who can destroy your product, so it’s a good idea to have some backup to keep it safe. These delivery missions are pretty straightforward. Just hop in a vehicle and follow your GPS to a drop-off location. Deliver some product, then move on to the next location. Rinse and repeat until all the product has been delivered. Just make sure you kill any hostile NPCs that may attack you during this mission (and the hostile players we mentioned earlier).
There is another way to make a profit from your weed farm if you don’t want to bother with drug dealers OR delivery missions. If you’ve purchased a nightclub, you can head into your NC’s office and sit down at the computer. From there, you can manage your nightclub and assign a technician to your weed farm. This technician will accumulate excess product from the weed farm and store it inside your nightclub so it can be sold later.
Assigning a technician to your weed farm does NOT impact the weed farm in any way. You will still make the same amount of product from it, and you’ll still be able to sell the same amount of weed with either of the two previous methods. If you own a nightclub, I highly recommend you get this setup as soon as possible. It’s a great way to make even more money from your business.
Weed Farm Payout: Best Money-Making Method
Now that we’ve gone over just about everything there is to know about the weed farm, let’s discuss what I think is the best method to make money from this business. The weed farm is not the most profitable money-making business in the game. Because of this, you should try to not spend too much time on it. That means don’t do any of the supply missions and don’t do any of the sale missions either.
After getting it set up, only purchase the Equipment Upgrade and Security Upgrades. Then make sure it’s stocked with supplies to produce product, and go and do other things (heists, security contracts, contact missions, etc.). As you are traveling across the map in free roam, be sure to stop by any drug dealers you see and sell any weed you’ve produced to them. This is the best way to sell your product as you can do it entirely solo and it doesn’t take up too much of your time.
You should also set up a technician at your nightclub if you happen to own that property as well. Then just sell your nightclub whenever it’s full of goods from your businesses (you can reassign a technician to another business if you’ve accumulated the maximum amount of weed). The only time you’ll ever have to revisit your weed farm is when you need to purchase more supplies or when it’s getting raided.
