Best Ganking Jungler Champions in LoL  (Season 14)

Make your opponents hug close to their towers.

Aaah… Ganking. Truly one of the best ways to tilt your enemies into oblivion and leave them staring at the Defeat screen.

For those who are new to LoL, ganking is essentially an in-game strategy where you flank an unsuspecting laner. Oftentimes, you’ll gank them repeatedly (aka camping) to put them at a huge disadvantage for the rest of the game. Ganking is a great tactic that any jungler can utilize. However, some champions are better suited to it than others.

That’s why I’ll be delving deep into the jungle to uncover the best ganking champions in LoL — check out my top 5 picks below!

#5 Nunu

Nunu has come a long way since his OG days. While before the rework his main strength was… “dancing” (rip Disco nunu), he’s now a great all-round jungler who particularly excels at ganking.

This is primarily thanks to his W ability. When Nunu uses his W, he creates a large snowball and gains significantly increased movement speed as he rolls it. The snowball also knocks up and damages enemies on impact. Unsurprisingly, this high mobility and CC combo allows Nunu to effortlessly gank lanes and catch out overextended enemy laners before they have time to react. This is especially the case in low elo, where players often forget to place deep wards down to counter Nunu’s speedy pathing.

Once Nunu hits level 6, he can also use his ultimate — an AoE that deals phenomenal damage and slows those within its range — to set up even more ganks. For example, Nunu can strategically hide in a bush or position where the enemy lacks vision, cast his ult, and then decimate his target as they unknowingly path into it.

Nunu isn’t just great at ganking though; he also has excellent objective control and stays useful throughout the various stages of the game. However, he is weak against disengage champions, so be mindful of that if you do decide to pick him up.

#4 Shaco

Shaco is by far one of the most effective early game gankers in LoL. He has a high damage output from the get-go and can carry out tilt-inducing sneak attacks with his stealth ability. He can also strategically place Jack in the Boxes — invisible traps that fear those who path into them — to block his targets’ escape paths.

Shaco gains even more ganking potential once he unlocks his ultimate (aka his clone). He can use his ult strategically to deceive the enemy and make them fall right into his hands, and he can also use it to safely disengage from unfavorable situations.

While Shaco is no doubt the reigning clown of the jungle, he does have a high learning curve and requires heaps of practice. He also falls off in the later stages of the game, so it’s important to get ahead early and snowball your teammates.

#3 Zac

Zac — yep, the green blob who looks like he came straight out of Ghostbusters — is a great champion for junglers who prefer a safer playstyle. This is primarily because he’s incredibly tanky and has a passive that grants him a second chance at life (literally).

Unsurprisingly, Zac is a phenomenal ganker too. He can use his E to strategically gank from positions that his opponents lack vision of, and he can pull his targets toward him or use his E ability to prevent them from escaping his, erm, wonderful gooeyness. His ultimate also serves as a fantastic kill-securing tool, since it allows him to effortlessly knock up and slow his opponents multiple times.

Zac particularly excels in low elo, where players often lack effective vision control. However, he doesn’t have many disengage tools — if you all in with his E, you won’t be able to escape and will need to commit to your decision. He’s also fairly vulnerable when his passive is on cooldown, so it’s important you don’t become overconfident and take this ability for granted.

#2 Lee Sin

Lee Sin is one of the most mechanically difficult junglers in the game. However, if you’re willing to master the ins and outs of his kit, including all his flashy combos? You’ll be rewarded with endless LP and a quick climb up the ladder.

Lee Sin’s phenomenal ganking capabilities come from his high mobility, hefty damage, and ability to initiate ganks from the fog of war (or other areas the enemy won’t suspect). His “Roundhouse Kick” ultimate also allows him to control his target’s every move and isolate them effortlessly.

Lee Sin is exceptionally strong in both the early and mid lane, but he does fall off in the late game. Due to this, he is best suited to early-game team comps and players who prefer an aggressive, high-risk high-reward playstyle.

1. Rek’Sai

Rek’Sai may not boast the flashiest appearance, but she does boast a powerful kit that’s well-suited to ganking. Since she can tunnel through the terrain, she can create her own unique ganking paths and use the fog of war to her advantage. This allows her to easily evade wards and catch overextended laners before they can react. She can also knock them up to interrupt them if they try to dash out of her attack range.

And once Rek’Sai unlocks her ultimate? She becomes even more of a ganking threat; this ability allows her to lunge at a target and dish out a soul-destroying amount of damage.

Despite Rek’Sai’s strong ganking potential, she is ultimately a melee champion and has a fairly short attack range. This means highly mobile ADCs — think Lucian and Ezreal — can kite around her easily in teamfights. You will need to be very careful with your positioning and try to catch out the ADC before initiating a skirmish.
