So you’re looking for a little buddy to keep you company as you make your way through all the Corpus, Grineer, and infested filled planets within the star chart? It sounds like you need to get yourself a companion in Warframe!
But what if I told you that a companion can provide a whole lot more than just being company? Companions can even be seen as part of your build as they can help with providing you with defense, offense, and even assist you with looting all those juicy argon crystals you keep leaving behind!
Ranking the Best Warframe Companions, Good to Best
Here are what we think are the best companions you should have alongside you, as you progress through Warframe.
6/6
Helios/Helios Prime
Exclusive Mods
- Investigator – Helios consumes Codex Scanner charges in order to scan surrounding objects and enemies that you encounter.
- Detect Vulnerability – Helios reveals weak points on enemies that have already been scanned.
How to Acquire
- Blueprint available from the Energy Lab for 15,000 credits in your clan’s dojo.
- Helios itself is available from the market for 75 Platinum.
If you’ve been taking the time to manually scan enemies throughout your missions in Warframe, you’ll understand just how much time you can save by using this companion. Helios will automatically scan enemies for your codex entries assuming you have codex scanners on hand. While scanning is helpful, this companion’s main utility comes in the form of its melee weapon.
Since Helios has a melee weapon, it can use melee weapon mods such as the Gladiator mods. These Gladiator mods will still be active even when on your sentinel’s melee weapon. This lets you use them as a stat stick to increase your own critical chance by a certain amount, depending on how many Gladiator mods you have equipped on Helios.
So once you get yourself a Helios and have access to its melee weapon, you are able to essentially increase the utility of any of your sentinels by a significant margin with those Gladiator mods!
5/6
Sahasa Kubrow
Exclusive Mods
- Dig – The kubrow sniffs out buried objects and digs them up.
- Ferocity – Allows the kubrow to use finisher attacks on an enemy.
How to Acquire
- Incubation via the orbiter’s incubation segment
While there are many variants of the Kubrow companion in Warframe, the Sahasa are the goodest boys and girls of them all. While the Sahasa Kubrow may not be able to provide stealth like the Huras species nor are as aggressive as the Sunika species, the utility they provide earns them a spot on our list.
Sahasa Kubrows excel at enabling your warframes to shine. They do this by providing a little bit of sustain through their Sahasa Kubrow exclusive mod “Dig”, which allows them to potentially provide energy/health orbs in addition to ammunition. Pair your Sahasa with another source of energy regeneration such as the Energy Pulse and Wellspring nodes in the Zenurik focus school and you can say goodbye to most of your energy efficiency issues!
In the case of companions, utility is highly valued and that’s exactly where Sahasa Kubrows shine. With such a vast arsenal available to you in the game, you can’t really go wrong with a companion that will allow you to use your warframe and weapons more efficiently.
4/6
Carrier/Carrier Prime
Exclusive Mods
- Ammo Case – Carrier Increases your ammo capacity and converts ammo pickups into ammo for your currently equipped weapons after a short delay.
- Looter – Carrier releases pulses that break open nearby storage containers and resource deposits.
How to Acquire
- Blueprint available from the market for 100,000 credits.
- Carrier itself is available from the market for 75 Platinum.
While Carrier is usually seen as the basic starter companion, there’s a reason everyone ends up using it at some point throughout their Warframe progression.
Carrier’s Ammo Case ensures you never run low on ammo by providing the effect of an ammo mutation mod, but for any weapon you equip. This can be super handy especially for Tenno who are still in the early stages of the game and don’t have access to the stronger weapons and mods that greatly reduce your ammo consumption.
Carrier also allows you to free up a mod slot that would otherwise be used on ammo mutation. This pairs well with weapons with a low ammo count magazine that don’t really want to give up a mod slot for ammo mutation while still retaining all of their damage mods, such as the Kuva Zarr.
You can’t really go wrong with a Carrier companion, while you’re still making your way through the star chart and are trying to put your next build together.
3/6
Adarza Kavat
Exclusive Mods
- Cat’s Eye – The Adarza Kavat grants increased critical chance to all nearby Tenno for a short duration.
- Reflect – The Adarza Kavat will occasionally reflect and amplify damage back to an enemy.
How to Acquire
- Incubation via orbiter’s incubation segment (requires Kavat Incubator Upgrade Segment)
There’s really not a whole lot to say about this companion, because who doesn’t like a free boost to critical chance in Warframe? Adarza Kavat is a perfect pick if you’re more of a “set and forget” type of person who doesn’t necessarily want to micro-manage your buffs.
You can just focus on other things while periodically getting a critical chance buff, as long as your Adarza Kavat is up and running. On top of that, since the Adarza Kavat’s critical chance buff is for all players, they’re always appreciated in party play missions.
2/6
Smeeta Kavat
Exclusive Mods
- Mischief – The Smeeta Kavat becomes invisible while a decoy runs around to draw enemy gunfire.
- Charm – Allows the Smeeta Kavat to grant random buffs to its owner. This random buff will be displayed with an icon at the top right of the HUD indicating that Charm has been used.
How to Acquire
- Incubation via orbiter’s incubation segment (requires Kavat Incubator Upgrade Segment)
While there is a pool of six random buffs that can be granted by a Smeeta Kavat, these cats are widely known and used for their buff from Charm. This buff doubles all affinity and resources obtained. The buff lasts for two minutes and is the reason the Smeeta Kavat is as popular as it is as a Warframe companion.
Alternatively, they can also grant a 200% critical chance buff for 30 seconds. This sounds good in theory, but it requires a lot more micromanaging than the Adarza variant. At the end of the day, if you’re trying to farm for affinity or resources of any sort, you’ll definitely want to bring a Smeeta with you!
1/6
Panzer Vulpaphyla
Exclusive Mods
- Viral Quills – Panzer Vulpaphyla launches quills at enemies dealing damage and infecting them with viral spores.
- Panzer Devolution – Panzer Vulpaphyla devolves into its larval form and spits viral quills at enemies. Respawns into its true form again after 30 seconds.
How to Acquire
- Son on Deimos can help with Vulpaphyla Revivification if you bring him the necessary materials to create your Panzer Vulpaphyla (similar to crafting a modular weapon). Requires at least Rank 1 with Entrati Syndicate on Deimos.
Have you ever thought how cool it would be to have a mini Saryn with you in your missions that helps spread viral to all the enemies? Probably not, because that sounds unrealistic and way too good to be true. Luckily for you, the Panzer Vulpaphyla exists!
Being virtually invincible as it respawns 30 seconds after it dies, this death fox-kitty makes its way into the majority of Tenno’s builds. It simply brings too much utility to pass up for no risk whatsoever. Being able to maintain viral stacks on enemies without you having to do anything is such a strong ability. This becomes especially useful in higher level Steel Path missions, where enemies are extremely tanky with armor.
