How to Get Corrupted Mods in Warframe

Find the mods lost in the Orokin Vaults!

Power sometimes comes with a price. In Warframe this is perfectly seen in the greatly coveted Corrupted Mods. These mods provide powerful buffs with equally devastating drawbacks, making it necessary to have a strong understanding of how Warframe’s modding mechanic works to use them effectively.

In this guide, I’ll be going over what Corrupted mods are, where to get them, and how to properly use them.

What are Corrupted Mods

Corrupted mods are rare mods that boost one stat significantly while adding a penalty to another one. This means using these mods requires a balancing act to make sure you don’t drop an important stat on your Warframe too much.

Amongst the 24 Corrupted mods in the game, there are Primary, Secondary, Melee, and Warframe mod variants.

How to Get Corrupted Mods

Just like the mods themselves, getting Corrupted mods is a double-edged sword. While you can get every Corrupted mod from the same missions fairly early in the game, Unfortunately, they all share the same drop table so getting a specific mod may take some time.

To get the Corrupted mods, you must unlock Orokin Vaults on Orokin Derelict tilesets on Deimos. To unlock the Orokin Vaults you need to use a Dragon Key. Since the Dragon Key is required to open the Orokin Vault is random you need to either run a full team with each player holding a key or hold all four keys yourself which can be difficult because of the negative side effects they inflict on you.

Dragon Keys

There are four types of keys that can be crafted, all of their blueprints obtainable from the Clan Dojo’s Orokin Lab. The types of keys are as follows:

Key VariantNegative Effect
Bleeding Key-75% Health
Decaying Key-75% Shield; 0.33s Shield Gate Duration
Extinguished Key-75% Damage
Hobbled Key-50% Speed

How to Use Corrupted Mods

As I said before, because of the negative effects of these mods they can be risky to use. Especially if you’re new and still learning how modding works. Despite this, Corrupted mods make up some of the strongest mods in the game and any player wanting to tackle Warframe’s endgame will want to utilize them.

Here are some examples of how Corrupted mods can be used:

Narrow Minded

Most of the Corrupted Warframe mods focus on boosting one of your Warframe stats while tanking another. This can be great for Warframes that may have a stat they don’t need.

A good example of this can be seen with Valkyr and Narrow Minded. Valkyr’s kit doesn’t utilize ability range to any great effect. This makes Narrow Minded a perfect mod to put on her since it increases her Duration.

Higher Duration for Valkyr means longer War Cry and lower Energy Drain on Hysteria. This makes Duration way more of an important stat than range making Narrow Minded an excellent choice.

Critical Delay

Critical Delay provides a massive bonus to Critical Chance with a drop in Fire Rate. While this may not be ideal for automatic weapons, this mod is excellent for fast-as-you-fire weapons or weapons with a magazine size of 1.

An example of this can be found with the Vectis Rifle. With a decent Critical Chance, Critical Delay can make it so you’re almost always hitting crits. Because the Vectis only has a single-round magazine, the negative for this mod is basically nonexistent.

Magnum Force

Magnum Force is a great example of a Corrupted mod with a better alternative already in the game. Magnum Force increases secondary weapons damage by 165% with a drop in Accuracy by 55%, While this seems in line with other Corrupted mods, the problem is that there’s another mod that’s better than Magnum Force with no negative.

Hornet Strike provides a 220% bonus to secondary weapon damage with no drawbacks. This means that whenever you want to use Magnum Force, you should ensure you have Hornet Strike on the weapon first and see if the mod is still necessary.

This is something new players have to look out for when dealing with Corrupted mods as there are sometimes better alternatives in the game.
