The Soma is one of Warframes oldest ‘must have’ weapons. Ever since its release back in 2013, the Soma has been a favorite of many Tenno fighting their way through the galaxy. Even now, the Soma can be a powerful weapon that can rip through Steel Path with the right build.
If you’ve been wondering how to get your Soma endgame ready then look no further than this Soma build guide.
Acquisition
Base Soma
Despite being endgame viable, the Soma can be built as early as Master Rank 6. All you need to do is purchase the blueprint from the Market for 50,000 Credits.
Soma Prime
Unfortunately, the Soma Prime is one of the many Prime items that has been vaulted. This means the only way to get it is to trade with other players or wait for it to be taken out of the vault during a Prime Resurgence.
Soma Incarnon Genesis
To get the Incarnon Genesis for the Soma, you must first complete the Angels of the Zarimen and The Duviri Paradox questlines. You must also unlock Steel Path. With all that completed, you can unlock the Incarnon Genesis from The Circuit’s Steel Path rewards when it’s in rotation.
Soma Overview
Soma Stats
Stats | Value | Incarnon Value |
---|---|---|
Total Damage | 12 (50% Slash) | 64 (66% Slash) |
Crit Chance | 30% | 10% |
Crit Multiplier | 3x | 3x |
Fire Rate | 15 attacks/sec | 7 attacks/sec |
Range | 300 m | 300 m |
Status Chance | 7% | 2.50% |
Soma Prime Stats
Stats | Value | Incarnon Value |
---|---|---|
Total Damage | 12 (50% Slash) | 144(66% Slash) |
Crit Chance | 30% | 10% |
Crit Multiplier | 3x | 3.40% |
Fire Rate | 15 attacks/sec | 7 attacks/sec |
Range | 300 m | 300 m |
Status Chance | 10% | 3% |
As you can see, the difference in stats between the Soma and its Prime variant isn’t huge. The Soma Prime only boasts a slightly higher Status Chance. The Soma Prime also has a higher mag size which translates to more DPS.
Soma Viral Slash Build
In this build, we’re going to be focusing on the Soma’s fast rate of fire and ability to apply Viral procs to enemies quickly. I’ll also be providing alternative mods for a more budget-friendly build.
Mods
- Prime Cryo Rounds/Cryo Rounds: Since we’re focusing on Viral we need the proper elements to make it. We use Prime Cryo Rounds for more damage, but the regular Cryo Rounds work too.
- Malignant Force: Same reason for the Cryo Rounds, we grab this mod to put Viral on our Soma. Malignant Force also has the bonus of 60% more Status Chance.
- Hunter Munitions: This mod adds a chance to apply Slash on Critical. Since the Soma is a Crit machine no matter what we do, this is just free bonus damage.
- Galvanized Aptitude/Rifle Aptitude: These mods will help increase our Status Chance even more. The Galvanized version will give us less Status Chance, but give us damage per Status Effect on kill.
- Galvanized Chamber/Split Chamber: These mods will increase our Multishot. Just like the Aptitude mods, Galvanized Chamber will give us less Multishot, but give us an added bonus of 30% Multishot on kill.
- Point Strike: This mod will give us up to 150% more Critical Chance. Excellent for increasing what the Soma is already good at.
- Vital Sense: This mod increases the Soma’s Critical Damage by up to 120%. Just like Point Strike, it increases what the Soma does best.
- Enemy Bane: For a little extra damage, I like to add a Bane mod for whatever faction I’m facing. This can be swapped out for other utility mods if you want.
- Stabilizer: A rifle-only exilus mod, Stabilizer decreases Weapon Recoil by up to 60%.
Alternate Mods
There are some alternate mods you can grab if you have them.
- Hata-Satya: A Soma Prime-only mod, this mod increases Crit Chance per hit. A great mod to slot in if you have the space and can easily replace an enemy bane mod if you want.
- Rime Rounds: A good alternative to Cryo Rounds, this mod adds Cold Damage as well as increases Status Chance.
- Critical Delay: This mod increases Crit Chance by up to 200% at the cost of Fire Rate. An excellent replacement to Point Strike, this mod’s negative won’t even matter because of the Soma’s base fire rate.
- Rifle Ammo Mutation: If you find yourself running out of ammo a lot, this mod is a good choice. Replacing the Stabilizer mod, Rifle Ammo Mutation converts up to 50% Secondary Ammo pickups into Primary ammo pickups.
Arcanes
- Primary Deadhead: This Arcane gives a wealth of bonus perfect for the Soma. On precision headshot kill you get up to 120% damage, 30% Headshot Multiplier, and -50% Weapon Recoil. It also stacks up to 3 times.
- Primary Merciless: Another good Arcane for the Soma, Primary Merciless simply increases damage up to 30% on kill. It stacks up up to 12 times so you can get some serious damage out of this Arcane.
