Apex Legends’ Vantage: Character Overview

Vantage is the newest Legend to join the Apex Games. She grew up on a faraway planet covered in ice and snow called Pagos. Due to this very cold climate, she lived a very rugged and isolated childhood. She and her mother were survivalists, doing what they could to stay alive. Despite her gruff lifestyle, her personality is very kind and lighthearted, and some of the Legends take pity on her for being so young.

She spent much of her days on Pagos hunting animals for their meat and hides. One such animal was a bat, who she shot and followed to the wreckage of an old cargo ship. Upon following the bat into the ship, the onboard security system was accidentally awoken and proceeded to attack her. The ship eventually collapsed into a canyon, causing the girl to nearly die.

Thankfully, she was found by her mother, who realized that she could not save her by herself. So she called in for help using a distress signal. As it turns out, the old cargo ship was actually used to haul prisoners, one of which was Vantage’s own mother! When her mother called for help, she was promptly arrested and sent to live in a prison cell away from her daughter.

The name of the ship was Vantage, which the young girl took on as her nickname when she entered the Apex Games. She joined the arena in the hopes to help break her mother out of prison. Now, she fights alongside the same bat — Echo — whom she almost killed back on her home planet.

Vantage’s Abilities & Playstyle

Before we get into the meat and potatoes for our article on the top ten tips and tricks for Vantage in Apex Legends, let’s briefly go over her abilities. Vantage is a recon Legend, meaning that she specializes in gathering information for her and her team.

She can scan other legends and learn information about them that she can share with her squad. She is the perfect legend to use from a distance and if you like a more slow-paced, tactical approach to gameplay. Her primary abilities are as follows:

Passive: Spotter’s Lens

When aiming down the sights, a blue rectangle will appear. When enemies are inside this rectangle, Vantage will learn information about them. This includes the level of their armor and their teammate’s armor, how many of their team is still alive, and more. Additionally, you’ll be able to see your bullet drop when ADS, making lining up shots much easier.

Tactical: Echo Relocation

By pressing the tactical button, Vantage will send out an animal companion named Echo that will fly to a marker location. Vantage can then launch herself towards Echo, allowing her to quickly move to a new location and gain the high ground on her enemies.

Ultimate: Sniper’s Location

Her ultimate ability is a unique sniper rifle with great damage and a decent rate of fire. As time goes on, the sniper rifle will slowly gain more and more ammo as the ultimate is charged up. It can hold a maximum of five bullets once the ultimate reaches 100%. This gun features an 8x optic scope, allowing you to easily pick off enemies from a distance.

As previously mentioned, since she is a recon Legend, she has access to a certain ability that only recon Legends do. Throughout the map are survey beacons, which are little devices that can be interacted with to reveal the location of the next ring. Don’t forget to approach and use these beacons to share this valuable information with your squadmates!

Top 10 Tips & Tricks For Vantage in Apex Legends

With all of that out of the way, let’s get right into the best tips and tricks for Vantage!

1. Get the High Ground as Often as Possible

Get The High Ground as Often as Possible

Let’s get the most obvious and basic tip out of the way first. Vantage is a sniper-rifled-based Legend, and anyone who uses sniper rifles knows the importance of getting the high ground. This tactic is the obvious basis for her tactical ability, which allows her to easily jump to a new location. You can use this tactical to your advantage by sending Echo to a spot and quickly jumping towards it to get higher up.

You’ll want to get the high ground before scoping out a new area. If you see a very large clearing, make sure it’s free of enemies before crossing over. And, if you’re looking to get some kills, there are plenty of places on most of the maps with a high vantage point for you to rain down some fire on enemies. Lastly, be sure to jump to a higher spot if you’re suddenly ambushed by an enemy squad!

2. Know What Information Spotter’s Lens Gives You

Spotter’s Lens is a really useful passive ability that can provide you with loads of information on enemies. It is arguably one of the best recon abilities in the game due to the amount of info it provides. When pinging an enemy you are ADS at, it will tell you their armor level and the armor level of their teammates. It’ll also say the name of the Legend you’re looking at and how many in their squad are still alive.

Additionally, it will tell you how far away this Legend is from you. And it will even give information about certain Legends’ abilities. For example, Mirage is practically useless against Vantage, as her passive allows her to see Mirage decoys! Because of all this, it’s important for you to use this ability as often as you can and to memorize what information it provides so you can best inform your teammates.

3. Use the Right Loadout

If it weren’t obvious enough from her abilities, Vantage is a sniper Legend. She is best played with sniper rifles such as the Longbow DMR and the Sentinel due to her passive ability and her ability to quickly gain the high ground. Her ultimate ability is a unique sniper rifle, but you’ll still want to carry a regular one in case your ultimate ability isn’t fully charged up yet. Not to mention it has limited ammo use.

A good secondary weapon to use would be something for close-range combat, like a shotgun. The Peacekeeper is really powerful, and the EVA-8 is very good if you want something less punishing when you miss. A good alternative to shotguns is assault rifles such as the R-301. It provides a good DPS and can be used in both close and medium combat. Although shotguns are definitely better for CQB.

4. Use Vantage’s Ultimate Accelerants to “Reload”

Due to the limited ammo that your ultimate ability has, it’s not a bad idea to keep a few ultimate accelerants on hand. When you’re finished emptying a clip at an enemy, you can use one on hand to “reload” your ultimate. This will allow you to keep laying down suppressing fire at enemies to help out your squad and rack up some kills. I’d recommend keeping at least two accelerants on you at all times.

You can find ultimate accelerants randomly placed throughout the map, in loot bins, and laying around on the ground. If you are playing with randoms and just joined a match, you should let your teammates know right away to ping any that they can find. This makes it even easier for you to get ahold of the item as fast as possible.

5. Stay Behind Your Squadmates

Stay Behind Your Squadmates

Due to Vantage’s playstyle, she is not a very aggressive Legend. She is not meant to be played up close and personal, and should instead be used slowly and tactically. Because of this, the best position for Vantage is behind her squadmates. You can have your two teammates (preferably assault class Legends) doing most of the damage on the front lines while you give them support fire from behind.

While you are waiting behind your teammates, giving them some sniper fire for support, you can relay information to them. You can ping which enemy to attack first based on who has the lowest-level shield. Just make sure you don’t stay too far behind your squad. You may need to rush forward if the two of them are downed and your support fire isn’t enough to save the day.

6. Crouching Will Cancel Your Jump Towards Echo

Anyone who has played Vantage will know just how crucial using her tactical often is. It allows you to quickly re-position herself on the fly. This can be used to jump out of harm’s way or to get to a higher position. But did you know you can cancel your jump before arriving at Echo? If you press the crouch button, you will drop down from your current position and land back on the ground below!

This is a pretty useful little trick in case you accidently jump towards the wrong spot or don’t want to go as far away as Echo is. In case you suddenly realize there are enemies where you are going to land, you can quickly cancel the launch and drop down to retreat. Next time you’re in the firing range, be sure to give this little tip a try so you can get used to using it out on the field.

7. Keep Your Ultimate’s Laser Hidden

Vantage’s ultimate is a unique sniper rifle that has the ability to take down any enemy from across the map (provided you can aim with it properly). But one thing to balance it out and keep the gun in check is a bright, very visible laser sight. This works similarly to Rampart’s laser sight. It will warn enemy players of her position and what they’ll be going up against if they turn the corner.

So it’s a good idea to try and “hide” the laser as much as possible to avoid enemy detection. You can do this by aiming your sniper rifle off to the side and at a piece of cover instead of aiming wildly out in the open. If the laser hits a nearby building or object, you can still look at the side of the scope to watch out for enemy players. Then, when they walk out into the open, aim your gun back at the space and fire!

8. Play Vantage With Crypto and Rampart

Due to Vantage’s slow and methodical style of play, it’s best to pair her with similar Legends. Crypto is a great Legend to go alongside, as he’s a scanning Legend who can use his drone to spot targets for you. Appropriate, considering real snipers work in pairs, with a rifleman to shoot and a spotter to find enemies. He can also use his EMP ability to make picking them off easier!

Another good Legend to go with Vantage is Rampart. Rampart is a defensive legend with the ability to place down walls of deployable cover. When firing over these walls, each shot from your gun will deal increased damage! This is a very useful ability to have because you can combine it with your already powerful sniper rifle to deal even more damage to any enemy unlucky enough to come in your sights.

9. Ensure You Always Have Echo in a Good Spot

Echo only needs to be directed where to go, and once he has a spot pointed to him by the player, he will fly there automatically. If you’re camping a position or have a feeling a fight is about to break out, it’s a good idea to order Echo to hover in a certain location towards the exit. This will allow you to quickly jump towards him should the fight turn sour and you need to fall back to heal and reload.

I almost always have Echo out and about when I’m playing as Vantage. It saves me precious seconds when I need to make a quick getaway. If you are standing behind your teammates giving them sniper support, you can position Echo between you. This will mean that you can quickly rush towards them if they are downed or need any kind of supplies or help to fight in close-quarters engagements.

10. Use Your Mic to Call Out Enemies

Vantage- Apex Legends Guide

This one is probably the most important tip on this list. It can be applied to every Legend in the game, but Vantage especially. Due to her role as an information-gathering Legend, she needs to communicate well with her team. This can be accomplished through her automatic voice quips, and you can ping something in order to tell your teammates what to look out for. Both of these work pretty well.

However, if you have something specific you need to tell your team, you gotta do it yourself. If you use your mic to do the talking instead of relying on Vantage, you can give out more specific information to your team. If the enemy team has a Lifeline, you should call that out and say to prioritize killing her. And if you see enemy gas traps, then say there’s a Caustic nearby. Communication is key to winning!
