Apex Legends Season 14 Maps: Changes You Need to Know About
With all that out of the way, let’s get right into the main article!
Brand New POI — Relic
The first and most exciting thing we’ll be discussing today is that Skull Town is back! Well, kinda. According to Respawn, the Syndicate has finished retrieving the giant skull from the bottom of the canyon and has re-erected it back on land. It sits atop the location Skull Town once was, now that the land has been rebuilt using sand recovered from the sea.
Because this new space is back, the map actually feels like a desert once again! That was one thing I’ve complained about in the past — King’s Canyon felt less and less like a desert with every season, and now that problem is somewhat fixed.
In addition to the larger map, buildings have been added to the location to mimic Skull Town, although it’s nowhere near as dense as it was before. This is definitely a good thing. Skull Town was always such a frantic and chaotic location due to its sheer size. Many players would drop there at the start of the map and die almost instantly. Now that the town is smaller, this should hopefully encourage more people to land elsewhere. Overall, I’d say this POI is better than Skull Town thanks to its much-needed re-design.
Changes to Existing POIs
In addition to the “return” of Skull Town, there are several POIs on the map that Respawn has modified this season. The first example of this we can see in an unmarked POI near Containment (shown above).
This location was a frequent stop for players as they traversed through the map, and it was the site of many dragged-on fights. It now features a re-designed space that is meant to discourage longer battles.
As for the POI Broken Relay, Respawn has stated they’ve added several new interiors to the location which were previously removed. According to them, they “…really loved this zipline gameplay over the ravine, and saw an opportunity to bring it back.”
And honestly, I did too! These new buildings will give you more opportunities for scavenging loot, and should make for some more memorable firefights!
Last but not least, Respawn has modified the POI The Cage. This area was previously fairly easy to defend from due to the abundance of cover. As of this new season, much of that cover has been stripped. This means that playing king of the hill with other squads will be much more interesting! If a team is camped up there, it’s now easier for you to take them out and capture the position for yourself.
Other Small Map Changes in Season 14 of Apex Legends
Last, in this article for all new map changes in Season 14 of Apex Legends explained, we should discuss some of the various small changes Respawn has made to this classic map. First off, we have a complete overhaul of the lighting! The map feels much more bright and more vibrant now and seems to take place at noon. Seeing enemies will definitely be easier now. Many fans seem to be liking this change.
They’ve also modified some of the choke points on the map. When you are traveling through the tight canyons, you may notice new openings to walk through. This will allow you to cut through the map and reach POIs from new angles! This will make rotating to the next ring much easier. Additionally, some previously open paths have been covered up to “reward players” who plan their rotations ahead.
To address how loot spawns disproportionately on the map, they’ve modified what loot spawns at what locations. POIs where you’d always find loads of high-tier goods have been changed to encourage you to drop at other locations. Areas where previously there was little good loot have been buffed to give you better gear. Respawn also increased the total amount of loot you can find on the map overall.
