Bloodhound is a fan-favorite character for a variety of different reasons. Their lore is interesting, their abilities are fun and engaging, and most importantly, they have a really sick visual design. Regardless of anyone’s reasoning for playing Bloodhound, they are a great character you should play at least once.
But what if you want to main Bloodhound? How can you make the most of their kit? What are some tips and tricks for using them effectively?
In today’s walkthrough, we’ll be going over the top-10 tips and tricks for playing Bloodhound in Apex Legends! But first, let’s get the basics out of the way.
Basic Overview of Bloodhound
Why don’t we kick off this guide with some basic information about who Bloodhound is and what they are all about?
Bloodhound is a very mysterious and enigmatic individual who never shows their face to the other legends.
They grew up on the planet Talos. Talos is a volcanic planet that serves as the location for the map “World’s Edge.” Both of Bloodhound’s parents were engineers who worked at a facility on the planet, but they both lost their lives after a freak accident. Bloodhound was orphaned but was taken in by another family member, their uncle Artur.
Uncle Artur taught Bloodhound the ways of the hunt, how to track down targets and how to use weapons effectively. Bloodhound eventually faced a trial in order to become a full member of their tribe. In this trial, they were tasked with killing a great beast. They succeeded but faced exile because they used an advanced piece of technology to get the kill, something which was not allowed.
Bloodhound was able to refute this exile, however, and defeated the beast again in a way that was considered honorable. Their uncle Artur died in the process, however. Many years later after their uncle’s death, Bloodhound left their tribe’s village and went on to join the Apex Games.

Bloodhound’s Abilities
Bloodhound is a recon legend, and their kit is centered around gathering information for you and your teammates. He is one of the OG legends, and as such he has gone through several changes and re-balances throughout the game’s lifecycle to keep him strong and relevant in the game’s meta.
Bloodhound’s abilities are as follows:
- Passive: “Tracker.” All enemy legends will leave behind “footprints” of their previous actions on the battlefield. These footprints will indicate information such as where an enemy died, where they healed, where they triggered traps, etc. It also informs the player how long ago these events happened, up to 90 seconds. Only Bloodhound can see these footprints.
- Tactical: “Eye of The Allfather.” When pressing the tactical button, Bloodhound will send out a scan in the shape of a cone in front of him. This scan can reach up to 75 meters in front of you. It will briefly highlight any enemies it comes into contact with, allowing you and your team to find their location. The highlight put on enemy players lasts for
- Ultimate: “Beast of The Hunt.” Upon activation, Bloodhound’s vision will turn black and white and all enemies will turn a bright shade of red. Bloodhound gains a speed boost, and they can use their tactical ability with a much shorter cooldown than normal.
Additionally, Bloodhound has the ability to interact with survey beacons. These are unique devices scattered across the map. Upon being activated by Bloodhound, they will reveal the location of the next round’s ring!
Top 10 Tips & Tricks For Bloodhound
So with all that out of the way, let’s get right into this article for the top-10 tips and tricks for Bloodhound in Apex Legends!
1. Ping Enemy Tracks For Your Team
Why don’t we start off our list with something obvious? As you run through the battlefield, you’ll often come across tracks left behind by your opponents. These tracks are great indicators of what happened in the area before you arrived, where the enemy team is now, and where you can go to find him. One thing that players often forget to do is ping them for their teammates to see!
Pinging them helps your teammates understand who and what you are tracking. You should also make sure to call out (either through text or your microphone) how old the tracks are. This last bit is especially helpful as it will give you and the team an idea of when you can expect to find them. Old tracks aren’t always worth following, and newer/fresher tracks put you on high alert so you’ll be ready!
2. Use Their Ultimate to Outrun The Ring
Although Bloodhound is great at tracking down and finding enemy legends, one aspect of their kit that is often overlooked is their mobility. Their ultimate gives you a nice speed boost. It is great in a lot of different situations for getting around faster and more efficiently.
One of the best times to use this ability is when the ring is closing in and you need to run fast. Getting stuck outside of the ring when it begins to close can be a death sentence in later rounds, and being able to outrun it is crucial. Unless you have a mobility legend on your team that can help you move (such as Octane or Pathfinder), you should make sure to activate your ultimate for a much-needed speed boost.
3. Try Not to Play Alongside Similar Legends
This next one is a bit of a pet peeve of mine. Often when I play as Bloodhound I will see players choose a legend that has a similar playstyle/kit to Bloodhound, such as Crypto or Seer. Now, there is absolutely nothing wrong with using a team composition of multiple recon legends. But generally speaking, it’s better if you only have one scanning/tracking type legend on your team.
This is mainly because you lose out on how versatile your team could be if you pick two legends with similar abilities. Bloodhound is great for scanning and playing aggressively. Seer is more specialized in scanning. Both are great legends, but your team should only have one or the other. You would benefit more from having a diverse character roster, which gives you access to more abilities on the field.
4. Enemies Can See Your Tactical Scan
While Bloodhound’s tactical ability is a great way to quickly gather information, oftentimes it can be a double-edged sword. If you happen to scan a nearby enemy, that player will be notified that they were scanned and that an enemy player is nearby. They can also see the outline of the scan itself, which emanates from the player who used it. This can sometimes tell them where you are coming from.
Obviously, I’m not telling you to NEVER use Bloodhound’s tactical ability. But you should be very mindful when you do use it. If you already know where the enemies are and you are in the process of sneaking up behind them, don’t use your scan! It can give you away and compromise your sneak attack.
5. Look Out For Ravens
Bloodhounds passive is great for tracking down enemies when you are your team is itching for a fight. As we’ve already discussed, you can find “footprints” left behind by enemy players that were previously in the area you’re currently in.
But did you know that flocks of ravens will spawn next to these footsteps? These ravens will only appear if you are playing as Bloodhound, and they are a great indicator of where enemy teams previously traveled through. So if you are prowling the area for footsteps, keep your eyes peeled for ravens flying into the air. Once you see them, head there and you should be able to find some tracks!
6. Scan Every New Area You Come Across
Whenever you are approaching a new area with your team, it can often be difficult to know what is lurking around the corner. That is why whenever you and your team arrive at a new point of interest or location on the map, you should press the tactical button to scan the area for nearby hostiles.
This will allow you to get the drop on any enemies up ahead. Or, it will just give you peace of mind when you go to loot the place. The scanner has a pretty decent range, so don’t fret too much about missing anything when you scan.
7. Use The Right Weapons
Bloodhound can use any weapon in the game just as effectively as any other legend in the arena. You are free to choose your guns based on your own personal preference and playstyle. But considering that each legend features its own unique abilities, it’s reasonable to deduce that some weapons are just better in the hands of certain other characters.
For Bloodhound, you would be wise to use pistols, SMGs, and shotguns with him. This is because their abilities are best used for close-quarters combat. Their scan can help you quickly find enemies hiding indoors. And their ultimate ability is great for playing aggressively, which SMGs and shotguns complement perfectly.
Again, it’s really down to personal preference, but try to have at least one of the weapons I’ve listed in your loadout at all times!
8. Flank Your Opponents
In addition to letting you outrun the ring, the increased speed from Bloodhound’s ultimate ability is that it allows you to reposition yourself much more effectively. If you and your squad are in a firefight and the enemy is shooting at you if you see a way around them you can activate your ultimate to quickly move behind them.
Once you are in position, simply order your teammates to start pushing and you can flank the enemy team! This dramatically increases your odds of winning the fight, and pulling it off is always incredibly satisfying. Just be sure not to scan your opponents while you are moving behind them! This is because, as we previously mentioned, it will give away your location.
9. Play With Bangalore
My personal favorite aspect of Apex Legends is how you can use multiple different legends and combine their abilities together in unique ways. This in turn creates new ways to play the game that was not originally intended by the developers of the game. A great pair of legends to use together is Bloodhound and Bangalore.
The reason for this is because of Bangalore’s tactical ability. Her tactical allows her to throw down several smoke bombs and cover a wide stretch of land with a blinding fog. This can hide you from enemy teams. This can be combined with Bloodhound’s tactical scan by blanketing an enemy team in smoke and using the scan to see where the enemies are. You can see them, but they can’t see you!
10. Play Aggressively
And now for our last piece of advice on our list for the top-10 tips and tricks for Bloodhound in Apex Legends! One of the best things about Bloodhound is the versatility of its kit. They are good for tracking down enemies, of course, as well as finding the next ring. But another great aspect of their abilities is that it allows you to play very aggressively, and dominate opponents in a firefight.
You can do this when you activate their ultimate ability. The decreased cooldown for scans allows you to find enemies faster. But most importantly, the increased speed we discussed earlier makes you a BEAST for pushing opponents. You’ll be harder to hit from a distance. And you’ll also be able to approach enemies much faster than they would normally expect! This gives you an edge in combat.
To make things even more interesting, every time you down an opponent in combat you will gain +5 seconds to your ultimate ability. This allows you to fight with your buffs for longer!
