What Are Heirloom Shards?

Heirloom shards are one of many different currencies found in Apex Legends. They are the rarest currency there is, and even Level 500 players like myself have trouble collecting them.

If a player manages to collect 150 heirloom shards, they can be used to purchase one heirloom of their choice. There are currently twelve heirlooms in the game, with many more on the way for current and future legends.

In addition to getting the heirloom itself, when buying one you will also get a special pose and voice quip for the respective legend. These are a great way to show off to other players. It’s no wonder they are so highly sought after!

How do You Get Heirloom Shards?

Currently, there is only one way that a player can get heirloom shards: through the use of Apex Packs. Apex Packs are a type of loot box that can be purchased with Apex Coins (which can be bought with real money). You can purchase a single Pack for 100 Coins, or ten for 1000.

If you don’t want to empty your wallet over getting an heirloom, there are ways you can earn Apex Packs for free. You will unlock Apex Packs simply by leveling up your Apex Legends account — one for every level until you hit Rank 20. After that, it will be one every other level until Rank 300. And after that, you’ll unlock one pack every five levels.

For players who don’t feel like grinding out XP for hundreds of hours to level up, you can also earn Apex Packs in other ways. This season’s battle pass features seven Apex Packs up for grabs. Certain limited-time events also offer Apex Packs as rewards for completing event challenges!

Are There Other Ways to Get Heirlooms?

Before we end this article for How to Get Heirloom Shards in Apex Legends, let’s address whether or not you can get heirlooms without shards. Why not just cut out the middle man and get your heirlooms directly? Well, I’ve got good news and bad news.

The good news is that it is possible to earn heirlooms without shards. Respawn always gives us heirlooms during collection events. During these collection events, if you purchase or unlock every cosmetic item up for grabs, you will get the heirloom featured for free! Well, free-ish.

The bad news is that this only works for new heirlooms, and there is no way a player can unlock heirlooms from past events without shards. If your main hasn’t received their heirloom yet, then this is good news for you! They may be next in line to receive theirs, saving you the hassle of getting shards.
