Another day, another new season of the hit first-person shooter Apex Legends. Released on May 10th, Respawn has knocked it out of the park with another big release of great content for us to sink our teeth into. The most exciting piece of new content is the newest Legend, Newcastle!

A defensive Legend, this charming character brings brand new abilities to the arena and does so with a big smile on his face. But just who is Newcastle? What are his new abilities all about? And most importantly, does he have any good cosmetics?

We’ll be going over all this and more in today’s feature for Apex Legends: Newcastle, the newest legend explained.

Newcastle, the Newest Legend Explained

Let’s get right into the article!

Character Overview

Let’s begin our coverage of Newcastle with a basic overview. His real name is Jackson Williams, and he served in the IMC military alongside his sister Anita Williams, who you will probably recognize as Bangalore. That’s right! Newcastle is Bangalore’s long-lost brother, whom she has been searching for since the very beginning of the Apex Games.

Newcastle disobeyed orders from his superiors due to his belief that they were fighting a losing battle. As you can imagine, going rogue like that puts quite a target on your back. So Newcastle faked his death in the explosion of a ship, and left his old life — and his sister — behind. He moved to a small town far away from the war, where he lived while Bangalore continued her search for him.

The town came into trouble one day from a group of troublemakers known as the Forgotten Families. They killed off the sheriff of the town, who was indebted to them, and Newcastle took up his armor after he died. He went on to become a legend in the Apex Games to help free the town of its debt to the Forgotten Families, which is where his story picks up.

This information was sourced from the Apex Legends Wiki, and you can read more about this interesting character and his backstory here.

Abilities

And now for the most exciting part — Newcastle’s abilities! Newcastle is a defensive Legend. This means that his skill set is based around protecting himself and his squadmates from enemy fire, which can be accomplished with a variety of different abilities.

Passive: Retrieve The Wounded

When you go to revive one of your fallen allies, you have the ability to drag them with you, allowing you to move them to cover. Additionally, as you do this, you have access to a special shield that will protect you and the person you’re reviving from enemy fire. If you missed Lifeline’s revive shield, this is probably the closest we’ll ever get to use it again.

Tactical: Mobile Shield

When pressing the tactical button, Newcastle will throw out an energy shield that will protect you from enemy fire while allowing you to shoot from behind it. What makes this shield so interesting is the fact that it acts as a mobile cover! When deploying it, it will automatically move to where you were aiming when you pressed the tactical button. Pressing it a second time will order the shield to move to a new location. This is really great for pushing enemies!

Ultimate: Castle Wall

Staying consistent with his role as a defensive Legend, Newcastle’s ultimate ability allows him to leap up a great distance into the air before slamming back down to a nearby location. Once he lands, he will erect a set of metallic walls that protect him and his teammates from incoming damage. These walls deploy very fast and have a total health of 750.

In addition to these abilities, Newcastle uses the Fortified perk. This means that he takes 15% less damage from enemy fire. He is also immune to being slowed down by bullets.

Overall, Newcastle is a great Legend to buy if you enjoy supporting your allies and playing defensively. You can let your teammates stay on the front lines so you can deploy cover for them when they need it and/or drag them back to safety if they find themselves downed. His ultimate makes him great for re-grouping with your squad if they are in front of you and in desperate need of some help.

Cosmetics

As much as I love Newcastle’s interesting backstory and lore, as well as his incredible ability kit, I couldn’t forgive myself if I skipped out on the most important aspect of playing a new character in Apex Legends — the cosmetics!

Sure, abilities are great and all, but who cares how you can support your team if you can’t look good while doing it? Before we end our article for Apex Legends: Newcastle, the newest legend explained, let’s briefly go over some of his legendary skins!

My personal favorite legendary skin of Newcastle’s is the Valiant Defender legendary skin. This is a steel and blue-colored armor set, which looks really really good and fits Newcastle’s aesthetics perfectly. Additionally, the model itself embraces his knight theme even more than his default skin does.

Another really great skin of his is the Green Mosiac skin. This is a dark gray and yellowish-green legendary skin. It changes up his armor, while still keeping him looking like a knight. I especially love the helmet on this skin, as it makes him look more intimidating than his default skin.
