5 Best Weapons for Jean in Genshin Impact

The Acting Grandmaster of Monstadt is a 5-star Anemo sword user and versatile character who can be played in many ways. She fits into any team as a DPS, sub-DPS, and even a support character that can heal her allies in a pinch.

When building her, though, it can be hard to find the perfect sword to fit your desired playstyle. In today’s article, we’re talking about the best weapons for Jean in Genshin Impact.

Let’s get started!

Foreword on Jean’s Best Weapons

There are a lot of great weapon options out there for Jean — there aren’t really any bad choices, but we’ve still narrowed our list down to the top five weapons. For each recommended weapon, we’re assuming it’s been fully ascended with no refinement (unless otherwise stated).

Keep in mind that we’re including five-star and event-exclusive weapons, which means they may or may not be available at the moment. If you’re unable to get them, don’t sweat it; we cover some four-star and non-event weapons that are always available, too.

Weapons for Jean: In General

Before we get into the recommendations, let’s go over a few things.

The main stat to keep in mind for Jean is her ATK. Jean’s Elemental Burst, Dandelion Breeze, scales with her ATK stat. Her healing regeneration also scales with ATK, so even support builds will want to give it priority.

When choosing weapons for Jean, keep in mind the different pieces of your build. There are different ways to play her, so you may end up deviating from the basic high ATK build. Even if you do want to focus on ATK, you may not need a high ATK weapon if you have the right artifacts.

As mentioned in our Best Weapons for Barbara guide, each three-, four-, and five-star weapon in Genshin Impact has two stats. The primary stat is always ATK, while the secondary stat can be any of the following:

  • ATK%
  • CRIT DMG
  • CRIT Rate
  • DEF%
  • Elemental Mastery
  • Energy Recharge

For players wanting to create a DPS or sub-DPS build, ATK% weapons are a great option, but CRIT DMG and CRIT Rate weapons are also viable. If you’re wanting more of a support build, ATK% still isn’t a bad choice, but Elemental Mastery and Energy Recharge can also work very well. Really, the only stat that doesn’t work well with Jean is DEF%.

No matter what you choose, there will be a way to make it work. The best weapons for Jean are going to be the ones that fit your playstyle. Focus on what you enjoy playing rather than the meta.

5 Best Weapons for Jean

Now that we’re on the same page, let’s get into the weapons! We’ve got five of the best swords for Jean below, ranked from worst to best.

5. Sacrificial Sword: 4* Sword

Starting out our list, we have the Sacrificial Sword. The Sacrificial weapon series is good for beginners, but also works very well with any character whose elemental skill has a long cool down. The Sacrificial Sword in particular is one of the most common four-star sword drops from banner wishes, meaning it will be easy to attain and refine even for players going the free-to-play route.

Stats & Effects

As a four-star weapon, the Sacrificial Sword’s base ATK stat reaches up to 454 at Level 90. Its secondary stat increases Energy Recharge by 61.3% at Level 90. That’s a little low for an ATK stat, but the Energy Recharge makes up for it by being pretty high.

Keep in mind, though, that the main reason to use this weapon is its effect, rather than its stats. The Composed effect grants a chance to end the user’s Elemental Skill cooldown after dealing damage with an Elemental Skill. It starts as a 40% chance every thirty seconds at Refinement Level 1, but goes up to 80% every sixteen seconds at Refinement Level 5.

There are currently very few ways to decrease Elemental Skill cooldowns, so the Sacrificial weapon series (which all have similar effects) is great for players who rely on Elemental Skills. In places like the Spiral Abyss or domains, which lengthen skill cooldowns, being able to shorten or end them is invaluable.

For Jean, it’s a nice way to clear out thick groups of enemies. When going up against mobs, being able to use her skill Gale Blade a couple of times in quick succession helps a lot to give your party some breathing room.

The increased Energy Recharge from the sword also means being able to use Jean’s burst more frequently too. Unfortunately, the Sacrificial Sword doesn’t do anything to shorten burst cooldowns, so we don’t recommend going too high on the Energy Recharge.

Drawbacks

The biggest reason not to use the Sacrificial Sword is that it’s kind of basic. It doesn’t do much in the way of increasing DMG output, nor does it have a particularly high ATK stat. It’s one of the few sword options that increase Energy Recharge and is one of the highest Energy Recharge boosting weapons out there, but for most sword users, that isn’t the most important stat.

The important thing to remember is that the Sacrificial Sword’s main effect is directly tied to Elemental Skill. Composed does nothing for Elemental Bursts, which means it somewhat limits both DPS and support builds, which utilize burst damage and healing.

That doesn’t mean the Sacrificial Sword isn’t a good option. It’s just that there are better choices out there that will do more to synergize with Jean’s abilities.

Fully Ascend the Sacrificial Sword

To fully ascend the Sacrificial Sword, you will need:

  • 150k Mora
  • 3 Fetters of the Dandelion Gladiator (2* material)
  • 9 Chains of the Dandelion Gladiator (3* material)
  • 9 Shackles of the Dandelion Gladiator (4* material)
  • 4 Dream of the Dandelion Gladiator (5* material)
  • 15 Chaos Device (2 star enemy drop)
  • 18 Chaos Circuit (3 star enemy drop)
  • 27 Chaos Core (4 star enemy drop)
  • 10 Divining Scroll (1 star enemy drop)
  • 15 Sealed Scroll (2 star enemy drop)
  • 18 Forbidden Scroll (3 star enemy drop)

4. Amenoma Kaguechi: 4* Sword

Amenoma

The Amenoma Kaguechi sword is the only forgeable sword on our list, which means it’s the best option for free-to-play players who don’t want to spend their primos and wishes on weapons. It’s also a good weapon that’s as versatile as Jean herself. It’s compatible with multiple build types and not too complicated to use, either.

Stats & Effects

The Amenoma Kaguechi’s base ATK reaches up to 454, which is pretty mid for a four-star sword. Luckily, the secondary stat is ATK%, which increases its overall ATK by a lot. At Level 90, it gives a 55.1% ATK increase to the character holding it. Quite helpful for Jean, whose Burst scales with ATK.

After the ATK increase, the main effect for the Amenoma Kaguechi is Iwakura Succession. The effect grants one Succession Seed after using an Elemental Skill up to once per five seconds. Each Seed lasts for thirty seconds and can stack up to three times. Seeds are consumed after using an Elemental Burst, and generate 6 energy for each seed consumed.

Higher refinement levels increase the amount of energy granted by consumed Succession Seeds, up to 12 energy per seed. The increased energy is helpful for most Jean builds, as it allows for more frequent bursts. While the energy is less helpful for Physical DMG DPS builds, most builds will be either support or Anemo DPS.

For players who weren’t wowed by the Sacrificial Sword due to its lack of Burst support, the Amenoma Kaguechi could be the answer. Its energy creation with Elemental Skill use can compensate for low Energy Recharge stats, while the main stats directly increase Burst damage and healing through ATK.

Drawbacks

While the Amenoma Kaguechi is free-to-play friendly, it will take a while for new players to obtain. The forging blueprint and the materials needed for ascending are only available in Inazuma. That means players will need to progress through the game enough to unlock it, which will take time.

Collecting the forging materials for the Amenoma Kaguechi will also take some time, since each sword requires:

  • 500 Mora
  • 1 Northlander Sword Billet
  • 50 Amethyst Lumps
  • 50 White Iron Chunks

Billets are by far the hardest material to come by, since they’re only available by defeating weekly bosses and via With Wind Comes Glory (Marjorie’s shop in Monstadt). Only a single sword billet is available from Marjorie’s shop, so the majority of billets will come from bosses.

At least players will have plenty of time to stockpile sword billets while they progress through the game far enough to get the blueprint!

Fully Ascend the Amenoma Kaguechi

To fully ascend the Amenoma Kaguechi, you will need:

  • 150k Mora
  • 3 Coral Branch of a Distant Sea (2* material)
  • 9 Jeweled Branch of a Distant Sea (3* material)
  • 9 Jade Branch of a Distant Sea (4* material)
  • 4 Golden Branch of a Distant Sea (5* material)
  • 15 Chaos Gear (2* enemy drop)
  • 18 Chaos Axis (3* enemy drop)
  • 27 Chaos Oculus (4* enemy drop)
  • 10 Old Handguard (1* enemy drop)
  • 15 Kageuchi Handguard (2* enemy drop)
  • 18 Famed Handguard (3* enemy drop)

3. Festering Desire: 4* Sword

Festering Desire- 4 Star Sword - best weapons for Jean in Genshin Impact

Festering Desire is a four-star sword that most players unfortunately won’t have. It was only available for a short time back in December of 2020 during the Chalk Prince and the Dragon event. If it ever comes back again in an event or weapons banner, we highly recommend acquiring it.

Stats & Effects

Even as a four-star weapon, Festering Desire has a higher ATK stat than some other options on our list. At Level 90, its base ATK is 510. Its secondary stat, Energy Recharge, is slightly less impressive and caps out at 45.9%. While lower than other Energy Recharge options, it’s still none too shabby.

For players lucky enough to have obtained the sword, its main effect, Undying Admiration, increases Elemental Skill DMG by 16% and Elemental Skill CRIT Rate by 6%. By Refinement Level 5, skill DMG is increased by 32% and skill CRIT Rate is increased by 12%. This is great for DPS and sub-DPS builds who would rather lean into Jean’s AOE skill than her burst.

Overall, Festering Desire is a simple weapon that’s very effective in increasing DMG output for both new and experienced players alike. In the hands of a character like Jean, hilichurls better watch out.

Drawbacks

As mentioned above, Festering Desire was only available for a limited time back in 2020, so its biggest drawback is that there is currently no way of obtaining or refining it.

Aside from the issue with acquiring the sword, Festering Desire also is meant for builds which rely on and utilize mainly Elemental Skills. Energy Recharge is nice for using Elemental Bursts and all, but the main effect of the blade is directly tied to skill damage and skill CRITs. That means that similarly to the Sacrificial Sword, it isn’t super helpful for players looking to increase the effect of Jean’s Burst.

Fully Ascend the Festering Desire

To fully ascend the Festering Desire, you will need:

  • 15 Heavy Horn (2* enemy drop)
  • 18 Black Bronze Horn (3* enemy drop)
  • 27 Black Crystal Horn (4* enemy drop)
  • 10 Recruit’s Insignia (1* enemy drop)
  • 15 Sergeant’s Insignia (2* enemy drop)
  • 18 Lieutenant’s Insignia (3* enemy drop)

2. Freedom-Sworn: 5* Sword

Freedom-Sworn

The Freedom-Sworn is a five-star sword that can work amazingly well with Jean if she’s built the right way. It’s a very strong weapon that works with a party meant to make the most of Elemental Reactions.

As it’s only available in limited banners, it may not be obtainable at the moment, but if you have the chance, it’s well worth the primos. It’s definitely one of the best weapons for Jean currently in Genshin Impact.

Stats & Effects

After the initial base ATK of 608 at Level 90, the secondary stat for the Freedom-Sworn is Elemental Mastery. A fully leveled Freedom-Sworn will increase Elemental Mastery by 198, which doesn’t sound like a lot, but will make a noticeable difference in Elemental Reaction damage.

The Freedom-Sworn’s main effect, Revolutionary Chorale, is the most complex effect out of our recommendations for the best weapons for Jean. It increases DMG by 10%, but also gives wielders a Sigil of Rebellion when the weapon triggers an Elemental Reaction. After 2 sigils are gained, all party members gain Millennial Movement: Song of Resistance for twelve seconds.

While under this effect, the characters’ normal, charged, and plunging DMG all increase by 16%, and regular ATK is also increased by 20%. At higher refinement levels, all ATK and DMG buffs are increased. This makes this a very solid weapon for a support character and a very reliable stat boost to other characters in your party. Having Jean equipped with the Freedom-Sworn paired with another DPS character could deal some serious damage, especially through Elemental Reactions.

For Jeans equipped with the Freedom-Sworn, you will want to prioritize Elemental Mastery as well as ATK. Since the greatest boosts from the sword come from Elemental Reactions, increasing the damage dealt by them is a smart move as well. This will somewhat decrease the DMG dealt by Bursts, but it’s worth it.

Drawbacks

As with most five-star weapons, the biggest drawback is that it is a five-star weapon. That means it’s harder to obtain, harder to ascend, and takes more resources to grind overall. On top of that, it takes a very specific build to really utilize the power of the Freedom-Sworn.

Builds emphasizing Elemental Reactions are going to most effectively utilize this weapon. That means putting more effort into obtaining artifacts with Elemental Mastery without completely disregarding ATK. That can be a hard balance to find, and isn’t recommended for new players.

Fully Ascend the Freedom-Sworn

To fully ascend the Freedom-Sworn, you will need:

  • 225k Mora
  • 5 Fetters of the Dandelion Gladiator (2* material)
  • 14 Chains of the Dandelion Gladiator (3* material)
  • 14 Shackles of the Dandelion Gladiator (4* material)
  • 6 Dream of the Dandelion Gladiator (5* material)
  • 23 Chaos Device (2* enemy drop)
  • 27 Chaos Circuit (3* enemy drop)
  • 41 Chaos Core (4* enemy drop)
  • 15 Divining Scroll (1* enemy drop)
  • 23 Sealed Scroll (2* enemy drop)
  • 27 Forbidden Scroll (3* enemy drop)

1. Primordial Jade Cutter: 5* Sword

The Primordial Jade Cutter is one of the best weapons for Jean, as it can work well with both her support and DPS builds when used correctly. It’s a very strong weapon that grants impressive stats and stat boosts to the user.

When it comes to picking out a sword for Jean, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better option.

Stats & Effects

A fully-leveled Primordial Jade Cutter has a pretty high Base ATK at 542. That’s before taking into account its CRIT Rate secondary stat. When fully leveled, it grants a 44.1% increase to the user’s CRIT Rate. The CRIT Rate is incredibly helpful, since CRIT Rate artifacts (the main way to boost CRIT Rate) can be a pain to come by.

After the initial ATK and CRIT Rate increase, the main effect of this weapon is Protector’s Virtue, which increases the user’s HP by 20%. It also grants an ATK Bonus based on 1.2% of the user’s max HP. This is a nice little boost, as even low HP Jean builds can easily get an additional 200+ ATK on top of the base 542.

No matter playstyle, the Primordial Jade Cutter is a strong weapon and can make any Jean build a serious threat. Unlike our other recommendations of weapons for Jean, there aren’t any sigils or seeds to keep track of. Nor are there inconsistent boosts you’ll forget about.

This sword works well with both DPS and support builds while being player-friendly regardless of experience. It will unfailingly deal high damage and decimate whichever enemy is unlucky enough to cross your path.

Drawbacks

The main con to the Primordial Jade Cutter is that it’s a limited-run weapon. It has high stats and really good effects, but it’s not easy to acquire. As of Version 2.6, it has only been included in three banners, so most players likely don’t have it and will have a hard time getting their hands on it.

Ascension material costs will also be higher than four-star alternatives, though this is a smaller hurdle for determined players than actually getting it.

Overall, the Primordial Jade Cutter is one of the strongest weapons for Jean that still allows a less complex build. The other weapons on our list will still work, but may take more time and effort to achieve the same efficiency.

Fully Ascend the Primordial Jade Cutter

To full ascend the Primordial Jade Cutter, you will need:

  • 225k Mora
  • 5 Mist Veiled Lead Elixir (2* material)
  • 14 Mist Veiled Mercury (3* material)
  • 14 Mist Veiled Gold Elixir (4* material)
  • 6 Mist Veiled Primo Elixir (5* material)
  • 23 Mist Grass Pollen (2* enemy drop)
  • 27 Mist Grass (3* enemy drop)
  • 41 Mist Grass Wick (4* enemy drop)
  • 15 Treasure Hoarder Insignia (1* enemy drop)
  • 23 Silver Raven Insignia (2* enemy drop)
  • 27 Golden Raven Insignia (3* enemy drop)
