How to Farm & Who Uses Guide to Light in Genshin Impact

Resource management is a huge part of most video games these days. From knowing what items you need to understanding how to get more, it’s a lot to keep track of when each game has hundreds if not thousands of options. That’s why we have a guide on how to get Guide to Light talent books in Genshin Impact.

We’ll go over everything you to need to know about Guide to Light books – from how and where you can get them from, to which characters use them and how many you’ll need in Genshin Impact.

General Info on Guide to Light Talent Books

In Genshin Impact, Guide to Light is a 3-Star talent book. It is part of a series of related materials native to Inazuma. The 2-Star item in the series is known as Teachings of Light, while the 4-Star item is Philosophies of Light.

To date, all Talent books follow a similar naming convention:

  • 2-Star books are the lowest rarity, called “Teachings of ______”
  • 3-Star books are the next step up, called “Guide to _____”
  • 4-Star books are the highest rarity, called “Philosophies of _____”

To differentiate between them, you’ll want to focus on your desired book’s symbol and the final word in the book’s name.

There are a few different ways to get Talent books like Guide to Light, with some being a bit more reliable than others. We’ll go over those a bit later though.

Leveling Up Talents with Guide to Light

Unsurprisingly, Talent books like Guide to Light (and the other books in its series) have one primary use – Talent leveling.

Certain characters need Guide to Light books to level up their talents.

In order to build stronger characters, players will want to level up their Talents. In order to do so, you’ll need some Character Talent Materials though.

For most characters, to fully level up one Talent will require the following:

  • 3x Teachings of Light
  • 21x Guide to Light
  • 38x Philosophies of Light

Leveling all three Talents will hence eat up three times the amount… which means you’ll need a lot of Guide to Light books for any decently built character.

Characters Who Use Guide to Light

As of Version 3.7, there are 5 characters who use Guide to Light for Talent leveling.

  • Electro Traveler (5-Star Electro Sword)
  • Sayu (4-Star Anemo Claymore)
  • Raiden Shogun (5-Star Electro Polearm)
  • Gorou (4-Star Geo Polearm)
  • Yae Miko (5-Star Electro Catalyst)

Unlike other characters, the Traveler’s Talent Material requirements are unique. As they unlock new Elemental powers, they also require more Talent Materials from each region.

When the Traveler is resonating with Electro, they will require 4 Guide to Light and 20 Philosophies of Light to fully level one of their Talents. You’ll also need some of the other regional Talent books too, this only covers their Guide / Philosophies of Light requirements.

Where to Get Guide to Light Books

Guide to Light books can actually be obtained through a few different methods in Genshin Impact. Some are definitely more reliable than others, but we don’t recommend ignoring any method entirely.

Violet Court Domain

The Violet Court domain is where you'll mainly get Guide to Light books.

The most reliable method to getting Guide to Light in Genshin Impact is by farming the Violet Court domain. It will take time and resin, but you’ll be able to get as much as you need, whether you only need 1 or you need 100.

If you want Guide to Light books though make sure you’re tackling this domain on Wednesday, Saturday, or Sunday. Otherwise, you’ll end up with the other regional Talent books.

The Violet Court Domain can be found on an island just west of Inazuma City. Simply summon your Waverider boat and head over to the island.

Inside the domain, characters will receive a 25% Electro DMG Bonus, making it the perfect place to test out your best Electro characters. You can also find Electro Crystalfruit inside this domain, which will occasionally create Nascent Electro Pearls. Obtaining these Pearls will deal Electro DMG to the next enemy you attack.

Thankfully, the enemies aren’t very difficult, even on the highest difficulty. The worst you’ll have to deal with is a pair of Kairagi, so you won’t need any specific elements to clear it.

Crafting at the Alchemy Table

You can craft lower rarity talent books into higher ones at the alchemy table.

The nice thing about Guide to Light being part of a series is that you can use the lower-rarity version to craft the higher-rarity ones in the same series. Meaning that if you have an abundance of Guide to Light, but are in dire need of Philosophies of Light, you can craft some.

The conversion rules are as follows:

  • 3 Teachings of Light –> 1 Guide to Light
  • 3 Guide to Light –> 1 Philosophies of Light

You can also use certain characters’ Passive Talents to have a chance at increasing the number of books you receive during crafting, but it’s up to chance if it works or not. You’re unfortunately never guaranteed to receive extra books.

If you only need a couple extras and you’re crafting a large number of Talent books though, it’s definitely worth taking advantage of any Crafting Talents you may have. Characters like Eula and Layla both have a 10% chance to double the number of books you receive (usually only resulting in 1-2 extra higher rarity books).

Xingqiu can also be a great help at crafting Talent books, since his effect has a 25% chance of refunding some of the materials you use while crafting. Which means you can receive back some Guide to Light books when crafting Philosophies of Light.

While Yae Miko’s Talent also has a 25% chance of occurring, rather than refunding used materials she will grant 1 regional Character Talent Material. The regional Character Talent Material will be of the same rarity used to craft.

Crafting Guide to Light with Teachings of Light could mean getting more Teachings of Light with Yae Miko, but it could also mean getting Teachings of Elegance or Teachings of Transience too.

Parametric Transformer

Use the Parametric Transformer weekly for a chance at Guide to Light books

The Parametric Transformer is probably the least reliable method to obtain specific materials of any kind in Genshin Impact. There is still a chance to receive Talent books though, so it’s worth at least using once a week after the cooldown period passes.

There are multiple types of rewards players can receive from the Parametric Transformer. After offering up to 150 materials to the device and charging it, the Parametric Transformer will spit out a randomized assortment of Mora, EXP books, Talent books (including Guide to Light), Weapon Ascension materials, Weapon EXP crystals, and even Character Ascension materials.

While certain materials can make it more likely to reward Talent books, there is no guarantee that you’ll get books of any kind, let alone trying to guarantee receiving specific Talent books. You can check out the list of items to increase specific reward odds here

In general – plants, vegetables, fruits, Ley Line Branches, Divining Scrolls, Mist Grass Pollen, Whopperflower Nectar, and Fungal Spores should increase your odds of receiving either EXP or Talent books.

Quest and Event Rewards

Events and rewards occasionally given talent books.

Certain quests and events will also reward you with Talent books and can be a great way to slowly increase your inventory without spending time farming. Most players will naturally accrue some amount of Guide to Light with this method.

Keep an eye out for quests and events linked to Inazuma, since those are the ones most likely to yield Inazuman Talent books. Meaning those are the events and quests most likely to reward you with Teachings of Light, Guide to Light, and Philosophies of Light.

The amount of Guide to Light books available will vary depending on the event, so unfortunately it’s not the best resource for getting a lot of books at once. Still helpful to pad out your inventory though.
