Most games have a lot of different items to track and manage, especially when you need those items to craft or level up. It can be really hard to keep track of where to get everything, which is why we’ve got a quick guide on how to get Guide to Transience talent books in Genshin Impact!
We’ll go over everything you to need to know about Guide to Transience books – from how and where you can get them from, to which characters use them and how many you’ll need in Genshin Impact.
Now, let’s get started.
General Info on Guide to Transience Talent Books
In Genshin Impact, Talent books are materials that can be used to strengthen characters’ attacks, Elemental Skills, and Elemental Bursts. There are a lot of Talent books though and they can be hard to keep straight if you aren’t familiar with some basic information about them.
Each region within Teyvat thus far has had three sets of Talent books. They are all primarily used by characters in that region to strengthen their Talents. Each set of Talent books comes in three rarities:
- 2-Star books are the lowest rarity, called “Teachings of ______”
- 3-Star books are the next step up, called “Guide to _____”
- 4-Star books are the highest rarity, called “Philosophies of _____”
Guide to Transience books are one example of 3-Star Talent books from Inazuma. Its 2-Star and 4-Star counterparts are called Teachings of Transience and Philosophies of Transience respectively.
The easiest way to tell books apart is by remembering the final word in their name along with the set’s unique symbol. Though that being said, most people refer to the books as “Guide to ____”, probably because it’s the easiest to say and write.
Leveling Up Talents with Guide to Transience
One critical aspect of strengthening your party will be leveling up their Talents. Higher level Talents will mean better effects (i.e. more damage, better healing, stronger shields, etc).
Unsurprisingly, Transience Talent books are used to level up certain characters’ Talents.
However, leveling up Talents will require a lot of resources. For most characters, to fully level up a single Talent will require the following:
- 3x Teachings of Transience
- 21x Guide to Transience
- 38x Philosophies of Transience
Fully leveling all three talents will mean tripling the resources needed… as well as the amount of time farming for said resources.
Characters Who Use Guide to Transience
As of Version 3.7, there are 6 characters who use Guide to Transience for Talent leveling:
- Electro Traveler (5-Star Electro Sword)
- Yoimiya (5-Star Pyro Bow)
- Kokomi (5-Star Hydro Catalyst)
- Thoma (4-Star Pyro Polearm)
- Heizou (4-Star Anemo Catalyst)
- Kirara (4-Star Dendro Sword)
Unlike normal characters, the Traveler is a bit special. Instead of specializing in just one set of Talent books, they require varying numbers of all three from each region. In this case, for each talent, they only need 3 Teachings of Transience, 6 Guide to Transience, and 6 Philosophies of Transience.
Where to Get Guide to Transience Books
Now that you know what Guide to Transience books do and how many you need, let’s go finally go over where you can find and get them.
Violet Court Domain
When you’re in need of large quantities of Guide to Transience books, the main way to get them is through the Violet Court domain, located on an island just west of Inazuma City.
The domain grants your party a 25% Electro DMG Bonus and also periodically generates Nascent Electro Pearls. Obtaining one of these Electro Pearls will deal Electro DMG alongside your next attack.
To maximize the efficiency of your resin, always run the highest difficulty that you can beat. Luckily, the enemies in this domain aren’t particularly difficult, with the toughest challenge being a pair of Kairagi. You won’t need any specific element to clear this domain, but we suggest bringing a strong Electro character to take advantage of the domain’s modifier.
Also note that if you’re specifically looking to get Transience Talent books, make sure you’re going on the right day of the week. Guide to Transience books are only available on Monday, Thursday, and Sunday.
Challenging the domain on another day of the week will result in the other regional Talent books (Elegance and Light), so it’s better to keep the reward you want in mind before you spend precious resin.
Crafting at the Alchemy Table
Most materials used to level up characters and weapons can be used in crafting higher rarity variants, and Talent books are no exception.
Crafting these resources usually comes at a 3-to-1 cost ratio. Meaning that you’ll need 3 of a lower rarity item in order to craft one higher rarity item. While obviously not the most efficient method to obtain higher rarity items, it’s nice that you can still get some usage out of low rarity materials.
In the case of Transience books, you can convert them as follows:
- 3 Teachings of Transience –> 1 Guide to Transience
- 3 Guide to Transience –> 1 Philosophies of Transience
You’ll quickly realize that you need a lot of Teachings of Transience books in order to get any significant number of Guide to Transience books though. Even more so for Philosophies of Transience
Luckily, the efficiency of crafting Talent books can be somewhat increased thanks to the Utility Passive of certain characters like Eula, Layla, Xingqiu, and Yae Miko.
Eula and Layla both have a 10% chance to double the number of books you receive during crafting, while Xingqiu has a 25% chance of refunding used materials. Yae Miko also has a 25% chance, but rather than refunding used materials, she grants additional regional Talent books. Those books are not guaranteed to be the same one used in crafting though, so we suggest using one of the other characters if you need a specific Talent book.
Parametric Transformer
For players who want to take a low-stakes chance with luck, you can try out the Parametric Transformer item.
Using this item, you can offer up to 150 materials to the device for more desirable rewards like Mora, EXP books, Weapon Ascension materials, Weapon EXP crystals, Character Ascension materials, and yes even Talent books like Guide to Transience.
The upside to using the Parametric Transformer is that you can offload some materials you aren’t using to obtain other resources you may be lacking. The downside is that you can only use it once a week… and you never really know what you’re going to get.
Regards from this gadget are randomized, so it’s not a guarantee you’ll get Talent books, let alone specific ones like Guide to Transience. Some items can be used in order to increase your odds for certain rewards, but that’s still not a guarantee. You can check out which materials will increase specific reward odds here.
In general though plants, vegetables, fruits, Ley Line Branches, Divining Scrolls, Mist Grass Pollen, Whopperflower Nectar, and Fungal Spores should increase your odds of receiving either EXP or Talent books.
Quest and Event Rewards
Talent books like Guide to Transience are a pretty common reward for both quests and events. In particular, you’ll want to take notice of quests and events related to Inazuma. Those are the ones most likely to reward you with Guide to Transience books.
The number of Talent books up for grabs will differ based on the event / quest, but they’re still worth investing time into for all of the available rewards regardless.
