How to Get Primogems Fast in Genshin Impact, Ranked

There are numerous ways to obtain Primogems in Genshin Impact. Most of the activities you engage in while playing the game will eventually yield Primogems, making the system seem quite generous. However, given the rate at which you’ll be using them, having more is always better.

Most sources of Primogems are one-time only. Once you obtain them through these channels, you won’t be able to do so again. Fortunately, there are some repeatable methods to keep getting more.

So we’ll be going over all the ways you can get Primogems fast in Genshin Impact, including both free and paid options.

What Are Primogems Used For?

First, let’s briefly discuss what Primogems are and why everyone wants more of them in Genshin Impact.

Primogems are a valuable form of currency that can be used on various major features in the game. Most notably, you can use them to roll for new characters and weapons on Banners. This is what you will (and should be) spending the bulk of your Primogems on.

You can also utilize them to acquire more Original Resin or level up your Battle Pass if you’re lagging behind. However, unless you’re regularly spending large sums of money on the game, this is a less than ideal usage of them.

Best Ways to Get Free Primogems

The methods below are arranged according to their accessibility, the number of Primogems available, and how often they can be utilized. Thus, while some methods may offer more Primos, others may rank higher on the list due to having a smaller time commitment.

1. Events

Events are the best and fastest source of Primogems.
Image: miHoYo via HGG / Devin Dornbrock

Participating in events is the best and fastest way to get a significant amount of Primogems in a short time. Fortunately, Hoyoverse maintains a consistent schedule of events, providing nearly constant opportunities to earn plenty of Primos.

The exact number of Primogems you can expect to obtain from an event will depend on its size, as well as the number and other types of rewards offered. However, you can reliably expect to earn some. Although not a definitive rule, most versions of the game usually include one large event with three smaller ones.

If you can’t log in frequently, we recommend keeping an eye on the game’s event schedule and completing all challenges towards the end of the event. This approach enables you to acquire the most rewards without having to log in every day during the event. Just ensure that you don’t miss the event entirely, or you’ll miss out on hundreds of free Primogems (and other rewards).

Total Primogems:

  • +900 (per large event)
  • +400 (per small event)

2. Adventure Rewards

Complete objectives in your Adventurer's Journal and raise your Adventure Rank for easy Primos

Two additional free sources of Primogems are your Adventurer’s Handbook and Adventure Rank. By playing the game, you can easily unlock numerous Primos through both systems. Meeting the requirements to unlock these rewards is straightforward, and most players will naturally achieve them while progressing through the game.

Activities such as ascending characters and earning Adventure EXP are simple to accomplish if you’re willing to invest some time in the game. These tasks can be accomplished while doing the things you’d typically do in the game.

Total Primogems:

  • 1,100 (Adventure Rank Rewards)
  • 900 (Handbook rewards as of Version 3.5)

3. Daily Commissions

Daily Commissions are your most consistent source of free Primogems
Image: miHoYo via HGG / Devin Dornbrock

For the majority of players, completing daily commissions is the most effective way to get free Primogems. Although the amount may appear small, completing them regularly can accumulate a considerable number of Primogems.

Daily commissions reset with the server, allowing players to earn up to 60 Primogems each day: 10 for each individual commission and an additional 20 from Kathryne after completing all four.

Total Primogems:

  • 1,800 (per 30 days)

4. Spiral Abyss

The Spiral Abyss offers great rewards to those strong enough to beat it.
Image: miHoYo via HGG / Devin Dornbrock

The Spiral Abyss is a source of both one-time and renewable Primogems. Primogems obtained from Floors 1 through 8 are one-time only. Once you obtain all the rewards from these floors, you won’t be able to earn them again.

However, Floors 9 through 12 reset on the 1st and 16th of each month, providing players with two opportunities to clear them and earn new rewards every month.

The Primogem rewards for the first 8 floors of the Spiral Abyss are higher than the more challenging floors, with every 3 stars awarding 100 Primogems. Each floor can get you up to 300 Primogems, but once you obtain them, you won’t receive additional rewards.

In contrast, the final four floors of the Spiral Abyss offer only 50 Primogems for every 3 stars earned, providing a maximum of 150 Primogems per floor. However, since these floors reset twice each month, you can continue to challenge them for additional rewards.

Total Primogems:

  • 2,400 (Floors 1-8, once)
  • 1,200 (Floors 9-12, per month)

5. Serenitea Pot Rewards

Prove to Tubby that you can be trusted with property for free Primogems.

Even if you’re not interested in customization or decorating, don’t miss out on the potential Primogems available in your Serenitea Pot.

Your first opportunity to earn Primogems is by increasing your Trust Rank with the teapot spirit, Tubby. Crafting a piece of furniture for the first time earns you a couple of Trust points. When you have enough Trust points to reach the next rank, you’ll be able to claim some rewards, including more Primos.

Furthermore, each character in Genshin Impact has two preferred furniture sets that you can place in your teapot. If you have both the character and their furniture set in your teapot, speaking to the character enables you to collect a gift set reward that includes extra Primogems. You can do this once for each set (two times total).

Total Primogems:

  • 600 (Trust Rank)
  • 40 (Furniture gift rewards per character)

6. Quests

Quests will typically reward you with Primogems at the end.
Image: miHoYo via HGG / Devin Dornbrock

The most straightforward and easiest way to earn Primogems in Genshin Impact is by completing quests. Most quests will provide Primogems, Mora, and EXP books, though the reward will vary from quest to quest. World quests, story quests, Archon quests, and hangout events also all award Primos.

Although not every quest offers Primogems as a reward, it’s still worthwhile to complete them for other rewards and to unlock future quests.

The amount of Primogems rewarded from quests varies but is usually higher for more challenging quests. If there is combat involved, the reward for completing the quest is typically higher.

Total Primogems:

  • 20-80 (per quest / subquest)

7. Exploration & Treasure Chests

Explore, loot, open up the world all in the name of free Primogems.
Image: miHoYo via HGG / Devin Dornbrock

After quests, the most natural way to accumulate Primogems is through exploration. Unlocking new waypoints, leveling up Statues of the Seven, reading tutorials, and opening treasure chests will all grant you a number of Primogems. The amount you can get at one time is small, but it adds up over time.

Earning Primogems through exploration is straightforward. You’ll receive 5 Primogems every time you unlock a new waypoint or Statue of the Seven, and 10 or 60 for each level you increase a Statue of Seven. You’ll also earn 1-2 Primogems for each tutorial you unlock (and read) and 0-40 for every treasure chest you open.

Since new areas and mechanics are regularly added to the game, the number of Primogems available through exploration is continually increasing.

Total Primogems:

  • 95 (Fully leveled Statues of Seven in Monstadt / Liyue)
  • 545 (Fully leveled Statues of Seven outside of Monstadt / Liyue)
  • 5 (per Waypoint)
  • 0-2 (Common chests)
  • 0-5 (Remarkable chests)
  • 2-5 (Exquisite chests)
  • 5-10 (Precious chests)
  • 10 (Luxurious chests)
  • 20 (Primal Obelisk chests)
  • 40 (Shrine chests)
  • 250-500 (Tutorials as of Version 3.5)

8. Achievement Rewards

There are a LOT of achievements in Genshin Impact, and they all give you Primogems.
Image: miHoYo via HGG / Devin Dornbrock

Achievements offer a straightforward way to get some free Primogems while playing Genshin Impact.

Every achievement available in the game will reward players with Primogems upon completion. The amount varies depending on the achievement, but it’s a nice way to earn some extra Primos as you progress through the game.

Many achievements in Genshin are even tied to quests, so you can earn them without doing anything extra.

Although earning Primos through achievements may seem insignificant, achievement hunters will be happy to know that thousands of Primogems are available through achievements alone. This doesn’t include the Primos you’ll naturally accumulate while working toward those achievements. New achievements are added with almost every game update, so there will almost always be more to claim.

Some achievements have multiple reward tiers that grant more Primogems as you complete them. Single and first-tier achievements grant 5 Primos, second-tier achievements grant 10, and third-tier achievements grant 20.

The only reason achievement rewards didn’t rank higher on our list is the amount of work required to earn them compared to other methods. While most of them are fairly straight-forward, some require you to really go out of your way to earn them.

Total Primogems:

  • 7,055+ (total, as of Version 3.5)

9. Update Rewards

miHoYo will give you compensation Primos for maintenance.
Image: miHoYo via HGG / Devin Dornbrock

When the servers for Genshin Impact are down for maintenance, Hoyoverse typically compensates players for the downtime. The amount of compensation can vary based on the duration of the maintenance, but it’s usually between 100-300 Primogems. While servers don’t go down for maintenance very often, they do go down for version updates roughly every 6 weeks.

During version updates, servers typically go down for 5 hours. If they’re down for longer than that, Hoyoverse will send an additional 60 Primos for every extra hour.

The schedule for server maintenance and updates isn’t set in stone, but it does mean that players can receive a nice chunk of Primogems every few character banners to spend.

Total Primogems:

  • 300 (for scheduled maintenance)
  • 300 (for additional bug fixes during scheduled maintenance)
  • 60 (for each hour over scheduled maintenance time)

10. Special Program Codes

Redeem the 3 codes from Special Programs for some fast Primogems
Image: miHoYo via HGG / Devin Dornbrock

Whenever a new version update is released in Genshin Impact, Hoyoverse streams a “special program” that summarizes what players can expect in the coming update. These tend to include upcoming events, new characters, enemies, and areas to explore.

These special programs last about 45 minutes to an hour and feature special codes that grant 100 Primogems and other rewards when redeemed. Typically, three codes are announced during each program, but they expire shortly after the program airs.

You don’t necessarily need to watch the special program to get the codes since they are easily found online afterwards (especially at the Genshin subreddit). However, you should act fast because they tend to expire within 24 hours after the program is aired.

Total Primogems:

  • 300 (per version update)

11. Single Clear Domains

Make sure to knock out every domain you encounter.
Image: miHoYo via HGG / Devin Dornbrock

Most domains in Genshin Impact exist to offer players challenges in exchange for character-building resources. No matter how many times you challenge them, they will consistently provide rewards and you can challenge them as much as you’d like.

However, some domains will only grant rewards on the first time you clear them. These domains aren’t focused on giving you character-building materials. Instead, they’re usually tied to the game’s lore in some way and offer generous one-time rewards, including Primos.

Total Primogems:

  • 40 (per domain)

12. HoYoLAB Check-in

Check in daily for some easy rewards.
Image: miHoYo via HGG / Devin Dornbrock

The HoYoLAB Check-in is an easy way to get consistent rewards throughout the month if you play regularly. Simply use the Daily Check-In function on the HoYoLAB app or desktop version, and claim the reward for that day.

Rewards vary from day to day, and can include EXP books, food, Mora, and 20 Primogems that can be claimed three times per month.

The reward schedule is set monthly and does not change. Since rewards are not tied to specific days, you’ll need to check-in on at least 18 different days throughout the month to claim all of the possible Primogems.

Total Primogems:

  • 60 (per month)

13. Character Trials

Test out characters to see if they're worth spending your Primogems on.
Image: miHoYo via HGG / Devin Dornbrock

Whenever a new banner is released in Genshin Impact, Hoyoverse will inevitably try to tempt you by offering special domains where you can try out each of the characters on the banner. This is a great way to figure out whether a new character is worth pulling for, since you get to see how they mesh with your personal playstyle.

A nice little bonus is that completing the character trial domains will give you a few rewards. The featured 5-star character trial domains will reward you with some Primogems and a few ascension materials for that character. 4-star character trials also provide ascension materials, but you won’t get any Primos – just EXP books, Mora, or enhancement ores.

Total Primogems:

  • 20 (per 5-star trial domain)

Buying Primogems (Paid Options)

The following methods still use the above criteria, but require you to spend real money to obtain Primogems. We’ll go over each method, but remember to spend wisely!

14. Blessing of the Welkin Moon

If you buy a Blessing of Welkin, make sure to log in every day.
Image: miHoYo via HGG / Devin Dornbrock

The Blessing of the Welkin Moon, or the Blessing of Welkin for short, is a paid option for obtaining Primogems. The initial purchase includes 300 Genesis Crystals and a daily subscription of Primogems. For the next 30 days after purchasing the Blessing of Welkin, players can collect 90 Primos the first time they log in for the day.

To get the most out of the Blessing of Welkin, players need to commit to logging in every day for the next 30 days. Failing to log in will not roll over the Primogems that would have been collected that day.

Purchasing more than one Blessing of Welkin will not increase the amount of Primogems players can collect. Instead, 30 days will be added to the end of the current Welkin time. For example, if a player purchases two Blessings of Welkin, their account will receive 90 Primos every day for the next 60 days rather than 30.

This is the most cost-effective way of purchasing Primogems, at least as long as players are dedicated. Each Blessing of Welkin costs $4.99 USD.

Total Primogems:

  • 2,700 (per 30 days)

15. Genesis Crystals

Try to only occasionally buy Genesis Crystals, or you'll go broke.
Image: miHoYo via HGG / Devin Dornbrock

Technically, purchasing Genesis Crystals is the most efficient way to obtain Primogems, as they convert on a one-to-one basis. However, this method requires spending real money to obtain the Genesis Crystals first.

It’s important to note that Genshin Impact does not allow players to purchase Primogems directly. Instead, players must first purchase Genesis Crystals, which can then be converted into Primos. This essentially adds an extra step to the purchasing process and is designed to make you disassociate from realizing you’re spending money.

While there is no limit to the number of Genesis Crystals you can purchase, it’s important to spend your money wisely, as there are many other ways to obtain Primogems without spending money.

Notably, each bundle of Genesis Crystals offers a one-time bonus, which doubles the amount you receive when you first purchase it. This double bonus typically resets once a year at the discretion of Hoyoverse.

Total Primogems:

  • Infinite (technically)

16. Battle Pass

The Battle Pass offers many nice rewards, including Primogems.
Image: miHoYo via HGG / Devin Dornbrock

The final option to obtain Primogems in Genshin Impact is through the Battle Pass. During a Battle Pass period, players can purchase higher reward tiers, which provide more rewards for the same amount of effort.

Purchasing the Gnostic Hymn for a single Battle Pass period unlocks a huge cache of potential rewards. As long as you actively play the game and complete challenges in the Battle Pass, you’ll be able to easily max it out and claim all the rewards.

The cost of the Gnostic Hymn reward tier is $10 USD and can be purchased once per Battle Pass period. Without purchasing the Gnostic Hymn reward tier, the Battle Pass will not yield any Primogems.

While it’s not the most efficient way to get Primogems, the various rewards you can get through the Battle Pass more than make up for it – namely the 4 Intertwined Fates (equivalent to 640 Primogems), 5 Original Resin, and choice of a unique 4-star weapon, on top of everything else.

Total Primogems:

  • 680 (per BP period)
  • 4 Intertwined Fates (equivalent to 640 Primogems)
