The Best Scarab Farming Routes in Genshin Impact

One of the less exciting things to do in Genshin Impact is resource gathering. Some resources can be harder to collect than others, which is why we’re covering how to get one of the more elusive items in the game. Let’s talk about the best Scarab farming routes in Genshin Impact.

What are Scarabs?

Scarabs are an interesting case in Genshin Impact. They’re a 1-Star item in the game while also being considered Wildlife too. Though that doesn’t really change much as far as collecting them.

Despite being a regional specialty of Sumeru, they can only be found in one area of the large region. You won’t find them in the rain forests near Sumeru City nor in the Girdle of the Sands. Scarabs only inhabit the dry areas of the Great Red Sand Desert.

Typically Scarabs can be found in small clusters, but there are a few errant locations where only one will spawn.

While you can certainly go around collecting each and every single Scarab, we suggest just following our farming routes below. That way you can just pick an easy route and repeat it once the Scarabs respawn in 48 hours. This will be a lot better for your sanity than trying to collect them all in one go.

Now let’s get to the best Scarab farming routes in Genshin Impact

Best Scarab Farming Locations

There are a total of 81 Scarabs to find throughout the Great Red Sand Desert of Sumeru. This area includes the Desert of Hadramaveth, the Hypostyle Desert, the Land of Lower Setekh, and the Land of Upper Setekh.

There are Scarabs both above and below ground in pretty much all of the sub regions above, which makes having reliable farming routes all the more important.

Even if you aren’t grabbing all the available Scarabs, you can at least make the most of your time rather than needing to invest hours tracking them down.

Above Ground

Most Scarabs can be found above ground, which makes farming them so much easier. We suggest starting out with the above ground locations first unless you’re pretty far along in your game.

Some of the below ground areas can be confusing to navigate not to mention locked behind certain quests or the special clearance mechanic.

Sobek Oasis

The Sobek Oasis is the best Scarab location in Genshin Impact

The best place to start farming Scarabs is near the Sobek Oasis in the Hypostyle Desert. Teleport to the waypoint East of Dar al-Shifa and you can quickly pick up 5 Scarabs by heading Southwest across the natural landbridge.

From there, you can either continue heading West toward the waypoint where another Scarab awaits, then jump down off the cliffs. Follow the path to the Dune of Elusion, and you’ll be able to obtain 4 more Scarabs on top of that. Alternatively, you can head to the waypoint South of Abdju Pit. 4 more Scarabs await you in close proximity to the waypoint there as well.

From just grabbing Scarabs in this area, you can quickly and easily obtain 14 Scarabs regardless of your quest progress.

Valley of Dahri

Heading further South from the Sobek Oasis, teleport to the Valley of Dahri waypoint. 4 Scarabs can be found pretty close to this waypoint. Once you’ve collected those, you’ll need to run a bit to get to the next ones.

A single Scarab can be found by hiding Northeast from the waypoint. It isn’t far from the underground waypoint in this area, but since it is on top of the cliffs you won’t actually be able to get it by teleporting to this waypoint. 4 more Scarabs can be found near the cliff edges due East from this Scarab in pairs of two.

While it may take a little bit of time, you should still be able to grab 9 Scarabs in the Valley of Dahri with little difficulty.

The Dune of Carouses

The third and last location to easily scoop up some Scarabs is around the Dune of Carouses. Teleport to the Garden of Endless Pillars domain and you should be able to find 6 Scarabs scattered around in the sand.

This farming location is especially nice because it doesn’t require much running around at all.

Below Ground

While farming Scarabs underground is a lot harder than above ground, there are still a decent number of them to be found. So if you’re looking to get a lot of Scarabs in a short amount of time, you can’t really afford to overlook the underground farming routes.

Mausoleum of King Deshret

The Mausoleum is the best underground location for Scarabs

The most lucrative area to farm underground is in the Mausoleum of King Deshret. Assuming you have access to all areas, you’ll be able to farm tons of Scarabs in this underground location.

Teleport to the underground waypoint near the Western entrance of the Mausoleum and follow the path South. You’ll eventually reach a large underground cavern.

The first Scarab in this area can be found near the Southwestern wall. 3 more Scarabs can be found by heading North into the ruin. Another Scarab can be found inside the ruin.

After collecting this Scarab, teleport to the Altar of Mirages Domain and head Northwest. 2 more Scarabs can be found by following the underground path. You should have 7 Scarabs in total from this area.

4 more Scarabs can be found on the stairway to Opet Hall under the Northern part of the Mausoleum. The area is easily accessible so long as you have unlocked the waypoint during the Golden Slumber quest.

If you still need a few Scarabs you can grab 3 more by teleporting to the underground waypoint in the Southwest corner of the mausoleum. Immediately on loading in, you should see a Four-Leaf Sigil through the doorway. Head to it and you’ll find the Scarabs near the base of the nearby stairs.

We covered how to quickly grab 14 Scarabs around the underground parts of the mausoleum, but there are plenty more to be found scattered throughout the ruins.

Best Scarab Farming Routes in Genshin Impact

The locations we went over above cover about half of the available Scarabs in Genshin Impact. They’re easily the best spots to scoop up Scarabs for any player who doesn’t want to invest a whole lot of time tracking down every single bug in the game.

If you’re ready to settle in for a good bug hunt though, it can be helpful to know the routes that will help you get all 81 Scarabs.

Uses for Scarabs

As of Version 4.1, there is only one real use for Scarabs in Genshin Impact. While you can technically consume Scarabs in other ways, there is only one use where you’ll need them en masse.

More uses may be added to the game in later updates, but we doubt it. (If it was going to happen, it was probably going to happen before the Fontaine update).

Character Ascension

Cyno is the only character who needs Scarabs in Genshin.

If you’re looking to farm Scarabs there’s really only one reason to do so. Character ascension. And not just any character ascension, since there’s only a single character who requires Scarabs for ascension as of Version 4.1. The ever hilariously unfunny General Mahamatra himself, Cyno.

Cyno is a 5-Star Electro Polearm character from Sumeru. He was first added to the game in Version 3.1 alongside Candace in phase one, with Nilou coming out in the second phase of the same update.

To fully ascend Cyno, players need 168 Scarabs, which is a pretty tall order for a resource that has no other practical use. Which is why it’s nice to have some quick and easy Scarab farming routes in Genshin Impact

Once you’ve exhausted your farming routes, you can also ask other players for permission to farm the Scarabs in their world too. (Remember to ask first though! No need to revisit the drama of the Scarab Wars).

Serenitea Pot

You can capture Scarabs and display them in the Serenitea Pot

While not really a use for Scarabs that requires farming, it is worth noting they are considered capturable wildlife. Meaning if you really like them, you can use the Omni-Ubiquity Net to capture them and put them in your Serenitea Pot.

To do this you will need to use the gadget before collecting them in the overworld. Doing so will store them differently in your inventory. Meaning you won’t be able to use any Scarabs captured this way for character ascension.

After capturing them with the Omni-Ubiquity Net, you can head to your Serenitea Pot and find them under the animal tab in your customization menu. From there you should be able to put them pretty much wherever you want.

Alternative Ways to Get Scarabs

As of Version 4.1, there are unfortunately no consistent methods of obtaining Scarabs.

Players in desperate need however, can speak with Nawaz in Aaru Village to obtain 4 on a one-time basis. To claim them you can interact with him and select the following dialog options:

  • “Scarabs?”
  • “Could you tell me more about King Deshret?”
  • “Make sure to be friendly with others too.”

After selecting the final option above, Nawaz will grant you the coveted beetles. After obtaining them, you can still select the dialog options, but you won’t be able to get anymore scarabs from him.

Best Characters to find Scarabs

Even with a farming guide, it can be hard to pinpoint the exact location of Scarabs. They’re brown and can kind of blend into their desert surroundings. Just being in the right general area can still mean overlooking a few of the sneaky buggers. Which becomes much less of a problem when you have the right characters on your team while collecting them.

Like we mentioned in our guide on Nilotpala Lotus farming routes, Tighnari is an essential character to have when gathering any Sumeru regional speciality. His Utility Passive Talent “Encyclopedic Knowledge” will show Sumeru’s regional specialties on your minimap. All you have to do is head to locations where Scarabs spawn and Tighnari will help you find their exact location.

Having a character with some sort of Sprint related Talent can also be a huge help when farming Scarabs. Even with waypoints, you’ll still end up running around quite a bit, so it won’t hurt to have characters like Yelan or Sayu on your team.

With their Elemental Skills, you’ll be able to move more quickly than a normal Sprint without consuming Stamina. Which is incredibly helpful for moving across the desert.
