Elden Ring is FromSoftware’s evolution of the Dark Souls formula. It takes everything we love about their past games and combines it with a vast, beautiful open world to explore. There are hundreds of bosses and dungeons to encounter, and a wide variety of different regions for you to discover and explore!
But just how can you explore a map so huge? How can you travel around such a big open world effectively? FromSoftware has thought of that, and has given us the perfect solution for exploring The Lands Between. It’s known as the Spectral Steed, and it’s the next best thing to fast traveling for getting around.
Spectral Steed Guide
Let’s get into this article for Elden Ring: Spectral Steed explained!
What Is the Spectral Steed?
The Spectral Steed is a horse-like creature that you can summon at any time to help you get around the map. His name is Torrent, and he’s sort of like a familiar. Riding him around is much faster than walking, and you can even use him to sprint and to double jump, allowing you to easily climb rough terrain!
He can also be used in certain combat encounters. Any time you’re in the open world, you can summon him and use him to escape tricky situations. You can use your weapons while riding on top of him, making it possible to use hit-and-run tactics on bosses and enemies. He’s a must-have for defeating certain types of creatures, such as the many dragons in the game.
You can summon Torrent at any time by going into your inventory and using the Spectral Steed Whistle. This can be added to your Quick Item slots by going into your equipment menu. Once you do that, you can quickly and easily use it to summon your trusty steed whenever you’re in danger.
How Do You Unlock the Spectral Steed?
Torrent is not given to you when you first spawn into the game, but you can still unlock him very early on. All you need to do is head to the Gatefront Ruins, which are north of the spawn point. Once you get there, find the nearest Site of Grace and rest at it, and a cutscene will play.
In the cutscene, the maiden Melina will appear and talk to you. At the end of your conversation, she will give you the Spectral Steed Whistle needed to summon Torrent. I recommend heading to the Gatefront Ruins ASAP after starting your playthrough, as the Spectral Steed is a must-have if you wish to explore the Lands Between.
