Elden Ring: How to Defeat Rellana, Twin Moon Knight

Discover Rellana's weaknesses with this boss guide.

Rellana is a new boss in the Elden Ring DLC who shares a very similar name to one from the main game (Rennala). But while they share a lot, they’re nothing alike when fighting them. Rellana dual-wields swords and utilizes elemental attacks and AOE to keep you on your toes. She’s not an easy fight, but I think she’s one of the better in the DLC, as she’s not unfair at all and she’s actually really fun to fight. In this article I’ll tell you where to find Rellana, as well as the best weapons and strategies for fighting her!

Where to Find Rellana, Twin Moon Knight

You can find Rellana in Castle Ensis. From the entrance to the castle (near the Castle Front Site of Grace), just head up the stairs into the castle. Just keep advancing until you reach the Castle Checkpoint Site of Grace. From there, you’ll have a pretty long run ahead of you until you make it further through the castle. There are a lot of magic-wielding enemies similar to those from the Academy in the base game, so watch out for them. There are also quite a few powerful knights, which are always dangerous. Once you make it to the Castle-Lord’s Chamber, you’re there! Luckily, this Site of Grace is directly outside the boss room for Rellana, so you won’t have to worry about any run back.

Rellana is weak to lightning damage, so that’s going to be one of your best bets. There are any number of lightning weapons in Elden Ring, from specific ones like the new Lightning Perfume Bottle to lightning-infused standard weapons. When it comes to which is best, I think it really depends on two things: your own preferences and how aggressive you want to be. Since Rellana is a pretty quick-attacking boss, you can’t just go fully at her without thinking. I liked heavy strength weapons against this boss, so something like a lightning-infused Greatsword would be something I’d recommend.

That being said, I think there’s just as much room for light weapons here as well. A good katana or even punching weapons can work, as long as you don’t get too greedy. As I’ll talk about in the next section, Rellana can take you out very quickly with her combination of quick attacks and AOE abilities. While I do think that going for chunks of damage via jumping heavy attacks and similar methods is safest, it’s certainly not the only way you can beat Rellana.

When it comes to your own resistances, I’d recommend prioritizing magic and fire resist. Her most powerful moves center around these two damage types, including her super-powerful AOE attacks. In her second phase, the elemental damage from her swords can really do a ton of damage, so high-resistance armor is a must.

How to Fight Rellana

Rellana is fast, and chaining multiple attacks against her feels very difficult. If you choose to go with a strength weapon, the best way to go about fighting her is just to land jump attacks when she gives you an opening. Other than that, just land hits when she’s not in the middle of a combo, which can be easier said than done.

Rellana’s moveset is a combination of your more typical “knight” attacks (just slashes, jumping attacks, and other ones similar to our own). She is also a heavy magic user, using the typical spells you’ve probably come to expect. In the first phase, she’s pretty tame with the exception of some brutal sword combos and a bit of light magic spam. In phase two, however, she begins using her magic (and fire) much more often. She is very reminiscent of Pontiff Sulyvahn from Dark Souls III, even though she’s not quite that difficult.

The main things to watch out for in phase two are her magic spam and how she loves to combine spells with vicious elemental attacks. It’s pretty easy to dodge most of the attacks, but doing so while also trying to damage her is another story. Her most powerful AOE attack is the one which she begins by jumping in the air and spawning two moons, but you can easily dodge these attacks by jumping when the “damage waves” come toward you.

As with every Elden Ring boss, it really comes down to learning the timing of her combos. In phase two, you only have small windows where she’ll let you get an attack in. It’s better to be safe than sorry here, but she does leave a lot of openings around when she casts or finishes casting spells. Just make sure not to jump in too early, as many of her attacks involve multiple hits in a row.
