Elden Ring: How to Beat The Ancient Hero of Zamor

If you’ve been playing Elden Ring for a while now, no doubt you know just how difficult and unforgiving the game’s bosses can be. One of these harder bosses is the Ancient Hero of Zamor. This is an enigmatic and mysterious boss who uses ice magic to devastate his foes.

To beat this boss, you’re going to need to have a good strategy in order to take him down while minimizing harm to yourself. But how can you do this? What is the best way to avoid his attacks?

In this article, we’ll tell you our strategy on how you can kill him in no time. Let’s get started!

How to Beat Him, Easily

Without further ado, let’s jump right into this walkthrough for how to beat the Ancient Hero of Zamor in Elden Ring!

The Ancient Hero of Zamor is an optional boss you can find in several different locations. The first and most likely time you’ll encounter him is directly south of the spawn point, at the Weeping Evergaol.

There is a wide gap of water located in between spawn and the evergaol, so you’ll need to head southeast from spawn and across the Bridge of Sacrifice. Once you cross it, simply turn to the southwest and travel to the marked location in the center of the image above.

You’ll know you are there if you see a group of Abnormal Stone Clusters gathered around a large, circular stone structure that almost looks like a small plaza.

When you first activate the evergaol, he’ll spawn right in front of you. To your left, there will be a pile of rocks next to a cliff (as shown above). Don’t go there just yet, but make sure to remember this location.

First Phase

This boss is not nearly as aggressive as you would think (at least, not in the first half of the fight). He spends much of his first phase pacing around before striking. This gives you a moment to attack him before he attacks you. Make sure you get really close when striking at him during this part, as he will sometimes dodge your attack by jumping far back. Use a heavy attack if you’re a melee user.

When he does decide to attack, you’ll want to use your shield to block most of his attacks. If you run out of stamina, roll backward. By then, he should only have one or two swings left before he’ll give you a break.

When he’s not actively attacking, be sure to keep your shield lowered. This allows your stamina to recharge faster. I usually lower my shield for a second or two in-between strikes to give myself a little boost of stamina recharge, which really helps.

Second Phase

Once you get his health down to the halfway point, he’ll be vulnerable for a few seconds while he charges up his sword. As soon as he kneels down, run up to him and hit him with everything you’ve got. Now that you’re in the second phase, you’ll want to jump on that pile of rocks we mentioned earlier.

When you’re on top, it’s much harder for him to hit you. He’ll charge towards you, but his hitbox will collide with the rocks. This stops him from going any further, and he’ll swing at the air while you keep your distance. This is a great place to hang back for the second half of the fight.

After he charges toward you and finishes all of his attacks, simply walk up to him (while you’re still on the rocks) and strike at him with a few fast attacks. This part is even easier if you are a ranged character, as you can keep your distance from him at all times.

Just be careful! He’ll occasionally clip through the rocks instead of getting stuck on them, allowing him to climb over and reach you. Keep your shield up every time he charges at you in case this happens. If it does, just hop back onto the ground and wait for him to charge you again. Once he’s off the rocks once more, climb back up and repeat the process.
