As previously mentioned, you can find Ertree Avatars scattered all throughout the Lands Between. There are six of them, to be exact, and each of them can be found guarding an Erdtree.

The easiest one to find early game is the Avatar stationed at the Minor Erdtree. This spot is located in the center of the Weeping Peninsula. To get to this region, head to the southeast from the spawn point and go past the Bridge of Sacrifice.

After you cross this bridge, start walking to the southwest, keeping your eyes on the massive golden tree on the horizon. Once you get to the erdtree, simply look around the bottom part of it until you come across the Erdtree Avatar.

Unlike many bosses in the game, which are found inside enclosed areas, the Erdtree Avatar is right out in the open in a field of grass. This means that you can easily get on top of your horse and ride him around during the battle. Doing this is a must, as riding horseback makes it much easier to dodge his numerous attacks. It also allows you to strike at him while minimizing harm to yourself.

If you haven’t already, you should use any Spirit Ashes you have available to help you out in the fight. This will distract the boss while you can focus on attacking him. No worries if you can’t do this — it’s a relatively easy boss fight even without them.

Regardless of your playstyle, to effectively fight the Avatar, you’ll want to stay on horseback and continuously circle around him as much as you can. This allows you to easily dodge most of his projectile attacks. You can make your horse sprint for a short burst by pressing Alt on PC, holding B on Xbox, or holding O on PlayStation. This is helpful for dodging his attacks, but also for playing offensively.

Now, if you are a ranged or magic-user, you’re going to want to spend most of your time circling around him and spamming him with ranged attacks. This lets you wear his health down while avoiding his melee attacks altogether.

If you are a melee user, however, you’ll want to sprint toward him on horseback when he is not actively firing at you. As you’re riding past him, quickly swing your weapons at him once or twice. Then, just sprint away before he has time to retaliate. This hit-and-run tactic is useful for many field bosses in the game, and the Erdtree Avatar is no different.
