I’m a lumberjack and I’m okay. I gather all night and I craft all day.
Even if this doesn’t describe you, you’ll still have to do your fair share of logging in New World. After all, wood is used to make a lot of the essentials! The thing is, once you get past a certain point in the game, regular ‘ol wood just won’t cut it anymore. That’s when you’ll need to turn your attention to farming wyrdwood.
In this guide, we’re going to show you how (and where) to farm wyrdwood. So… leaf the details to me, and let’s get started!
What Is Wyrdwood?
Wyrdwood is a tier four resource. It is an upgrade to the classic greenwood found in the trees and bushes of New World.
Why Do You Need Wyrdwood?
Wyrdwood is an essential resource once you get to higher levels in the game. It’s used in all manner of crafting recipes, including in crafting unique furniture and weaponry like higher-level versions of the fire and life staves. With that said, the weapon that benefits most from wyrdwood is (unsurprisingly) the bow. Wyrdwood is used to craft better bows and arrows.
The final use for wyrdwood is in the crafting advanced tools that let you gather your resources more efficiently.
How to Acquire Wyrdwood
Unsurprisingly, the first step to getting wyrdwood is to get a logging axe. Once you have one, you gain the ability to chop down trees for wood. However, a logging axe alone isn’t enough. To chop down wyrdwood trees, you need a logging skill level of at least 100.
Once you’ve got both of those, it’s time to find your first wyrdwood tree. Wyrdwood trees are actually quite easy to spot thanks to the distinctive blue glow pattern on their bark. They’re even easier to spot once you hit level 125, as they start showing up on your compass map.
In addition to upgrading your woodcutting level to 125, it’s wise to upgrade your logging axe as much as you can before you start farming wyrdwood. Do this, and you’ll be getting more wood than your average Catan player!
Best Wyrdwood Farming Locations
Let’s go over the best locations to start farming wyrdwood in New World.
Brightwood
The best wyrdwood farming location in New World is the Verdant Cavern and Lush Hideaway in the southeastern part of the aptly named Brightwood region. You can head there directly to get your wyrdwood, but you can also do it as part of various sidequests in the region. This way you can pair up your resource gathering with your quest objectives to make it all the more efficient.
But be warned. The Verdant Cavern and Lush Hideaway are home not just to precious wyrdwood, but to level 32 mobs, as well. If you are high enough level to need wyrdwood then this is probably fine, but it is a good thing to keep in mind regardless.
Weaver’s Fen
Due east of Weaver’s Fen lies the point of interest Canopus. There you will find a bunch of different wyrdwood trees dotting the landscape. You will also find level thirty and above ancient enemies, as well. In other words, a bit of a skeleton infestation is all that stands between you and your resources.
This makes Canopus a great secondary spot to get your wyrdwood. Maybe you want to hunt some skeletons anyway, so that might actually be a bonus. Personally, the ancient enemies are some of my favorites to fight. Canopus is also nice for a bit of oil farming too as a side perk.
Mourningdale
Morningdale has wyrdwood trees spread out all across the region, making it for a great farming location in New World. That being said, farming there is a bit time consuming compared to some of the other locations because the wyrdwood tree spawn points are quite spread out. Still, it is well worth the expenditure to get your hands on them.
Great Cleave
Another of the biggest concentrations of wyrdwood trees can be found in Great Cleave. They can be found in groups along the eastern edge of the region. This is basically a straight line and makes for a very easy farming route.
Great Cleave is also a solid source of starmetal. This makes it an ideal spot for gathering multiple high-level resources at once. This is useful for many high-level items you might want to craft, and it’s especially nice for those archers looking to make lots and lots of starmetal arrows.
Join the High Ground
If you were looking for wyrdwood, then hopefully this farming guide helped you spruce up your New World experience by getting straight to the root of the matter. You are now well equipped — ready to find and gather wyrdwood.
