While there are only three LMGs in Black Ops 6, they all have an impact on the Warzone experience. There’s an obvious favorite here (in my opinion), but all three are worth discussing so you know how to get the most out of each. In this article I’ll rank all three Black Ops 6 LMGs for Warzone, and I’ll also include attachment recommendations for all three!
#1 XMG: Best Overall
Recommended Attachments:
- Optic: Wills 3x (or another 2x or 3x of choice)
- Muzzle: Compensator
- Barrel: Reinforced Barrel or Long Barrel
- Underbarrel: Vertical Foregrip
- Stock: Buffer Weight Stock
- (Wildcard) Magazine: Extended Mag I
- (Wildcard) Rear Grip: Commando Grip
- (Wildcard) Fire Mods: Recoil Springs or 7.62 NATO Overpressured
The XMG is the best LMG in Warzone right now. While it doesn’t have the highest TTK in the <40 meter range, it excels just past that and has a huge mag size of 100. Even without a magazine attachment, you’re more than able to handle multiple enemies at once without having to reload. And while the lower damage at close range isn’t ideal, that’s not the best range for LMGs anyway. Between 40-50 meters, the XMG is one of (if not the) best weapons in the game.
One thing that makes the XMG stand out is the Buffer Weight Stock. It’s the only LMG from Black Ops 6 with a stock attachment that offers recoil control, and it gives both vertical and horizontal recoil improvements. It does come at the cost of some ADS speed and aim walking movement speed, but that’s almost trivial at that point. With that, along with the Compensator and Vertical Foregrip, the XMG is remarkably accurate. Along with those, I also really like the Reinforced Barrel for a nice mix of damage range and bullet velocity. That being said, you could also go with Long Barrel over it if you prefer more damage range. I think either one is almost equally as good, but Reinforced Barrel just beats it by a bit.
If you choose to go with the Gunfighter wildcard for 8 attachments instead of 5, there are a few you could go for. I like Extended Mag I more than II. Ext Mag I raises the mag size to 150, while II raises it to 200. I just don’t see a situation where 200 rounds is really necessary, so I don’t think it’s worth the extra penalties. Commando Grip is also obviously good for some free ADS speed and sprint to fire speed, and then either Recoil Springs or 7.62 NATO Overpressured for your fire mods.
#2 PU-27
Recommended Attachments:
- Optic: Willis 3x (or another 2x or 3x of choice)
- Muzzle: Compensator
- Barrel: Reinforced Barrel
- Underbarrel: Vertical Foregrip
- Fire Mods: Recoil Springs
- (Wildcard) Magazine: Extended Mag I
- (Wildcard) Rear Grip: Commando Grip
- (Wildcard) Stock: Balanced Stock
To be honest, I’m not really a huge fan of either of the other two Black Ops 6 LMGs. That being said, though, the PU-27 is my pick because it has a larger mag size. Other than that, the two guns are fairly equal. Both have a better TTK than the XMG in the <40 meter range, but not by so much that it makes them top tier picks. Once you push out to the more optimal LMG range of 40-50 meters, they get a bit worse. And since the recoil is pretty bad, they can be hard to use at this range as well. The PU-27 doesn’t need a magazine attachment to be usable, though, so it beats the GPMG-7.
A Compensator and Vertical Foregrip are necessities for the PU-27. Without them, it’s just far too unwieldy to use properly. Recoil Springs are also recommended to help even more with this. For the last non-optic attachment, I really like the Reinforced Barrel just as much as on almost every gun in Warzone. Bullet velocity and damage range are about equally important in Warzone, but if you prefer one over the other for your playstyle, then feel free to choose either Long Barrel or Gain-Twist Barrel.
For your Gunfighter wildcard bonus attachments, I like Extended Mag I more than Ext Mag II for the same reason as the XMG. While it doesn’t have as much in the base mag as the XMG does, I still don’t like how many penalties the second one comes with. The Commando Grip is also the pick here, giving bonuses to ADS speed and sprint to fire speed. And the last attachment here I’d use is the Balanced Stock, which gives bonuses to movement speed in general and while strafing, hip-firing, and aiming.
#3 GPMG-7
Recommended Attachments:
- Optic: Willis 3x (or another 2x or 3x of choice)
- Muzzle: Compensator
- Barrel: Reinforced Barrel
- Underbarrel: Vertical Foregrip
- Magazine: Extended Mag II
- (Wildcard) Rear Grip: Commando Grip
- (Wildcard) Stock: Balanced Stock
- (Wildcard) Fire Mods: 7.62 NATO Overpressured or Recoil Springs
The GPMG-7 is my pick for the worst LMG in Black Ops 6 for Warzone. While it doesn’t feel much different than the PU-27, it’s small magazine size of 50 rounds sets it back. LMGs are strong for a few reasons, but one of the main ones is how much ammo you get without needing attachments. The GPMG-7 can’t say that, though. Without this bonus, I just don’t see much of a reason to use this gun since it doesn’t particularly stand out in any other regards to make up for it.
The attachments here are the same as for the PU-27. I would say that the GPMG-7 does have slightly better recoil control than the PU-27, but it’s not good enough to get rid of any recoil-based attachments other than the fire mod ones. Compensator and Vertical Foregrip handle most of the recoil well enough, which allows room for a magazine attachment. Since the base mag size is so small for an LMG, you almost have to have one. Extended Mag II is the best here in my opinion, since it gives you 100 rounds and only penalizes you mildly. Interestingly, you can actually take up to an Extended Mag IV on this weapon. But the penalties stack up quickly with III and IV, and I think 100 rounds is more than enough for most situations.
For the Gunfighter wildcard, the options are pretty standard. I would recommend Commando Grip to help counter the ADS and sprint to fire speed penalties from the extended mag attachment. Then Balanced Stock is good on just about every gun, and 7.62 Overpressured or Recoil Springs are both good options for fire mods. I like 7.62 more here since the recoil isn’t so bad, but it’s ultimately up to personal preference on that one.
