The 5 Best Assault Rifles Ranked for Warzone

Write the meta with these 5 unstoppable ARs.

Assault Rifles are the best overall weapon types for Warzone. This is largely because they have a good balance of range and damage, without forcing you into any particular playstyle. In Warzone you’re able to use any Assault Rifle from BO6, MW2, or MW3, but I’ll just be focusing on the BO6 options here. They’re better overall right now, but feel free to check out some from MW3 or MW2 if you want to or liked them prior to BO6 release. Now let’s get right into my ranking of the top 5 weapons from BO6 for Warzone!

1. XM4

Recommended Attachments:

  • Optic: 2x or 3x scope of choice
  • Muzzle: Suppressor or Compensator
  • Barrel: Reinforced Barrel
  • Underbarrel: Vertical Foregrip
  • Mag: Extended Mag II

The XM4 is still the best assault rifle for Warzone in Black Ops 6. It’s main appeal is how little recoil it gets, which is made even better with the Vertical Foregrip and/or Compensator. That being said, since it has such excellent natural recoil control, a suppressor is often an even better choice. I don’t really miss the Compensator much on this gun when I don’t have it, but it’s really up to you. Reinforced Barrel gives it a boost to both damage range and bullet velocity, but you could go with a Long Barrel for maximum range if you want. Either works here. Also feel free to upgrade to a massive Extended Mag III if you want, but I feel like Ext Mag II is more than adequate and doesn’t take away too much ADS or other speed.

The reason I put the XM4 over other assault rifles really comes down to the recoil control and solid damage. It doesn’t have quite as much firepower as the AK-47 does, but it’s close. And while you can make an argument for the GPR 91 for better handling, I just prefer the overall package of the XM4. It’s a near impossible gun to beat in a 1-on-1 fight, and you’ll be able to take out entire squads with it if you’re skilled enough.

2. AK-47

Recommended Attachments:

  • Optic: 2x or 3x scope of choice
  • Muzzle: Compensator
  • Underbarrel: Vertical Foregrip
  • Mag: Extended Mag II
  • Fire Mod: Recoil Springs

The AK-47 has the best TTK in the game right now, so it’s impossible not to include. If you’re purely looking for an assault rifle that excels at fairly close range, this is the best one. Its only downside is that it does have a decent bit of recoil, even after recent changes to improve it. Since the recoil is so strong, I’ve abandoned the barrel attachment for Recoil Springs. Between those and the Vertical Foregrip, it’s a lot easier to control. I still wouldn’t recommend it for longer mid-range fights like I would some other assault rifles, but it gets the job done. I personally would also recommend a 2x scope over a 3x for this reason. But that being said, some of the 3x scopes just feel better even up closer. The AK is a really hard assault rifle to beat in most situations, so that’s why it’s my #2 overall pick.

3. Model L

Recommended Attachments:

  • Optic: 2x or 3x scope of choice
  • Muzzle: Compensator
  • Barrel: Reinforced Barrel or Long Barrel
  • Underbarrel: Vertical Foregrip
  • Mag: Extended Mag II

The Model L is probably my favorite assault rifle for longer-ranged fights. I find its recoil to be easy to control, and its firepower is more than enough for most fights. It has really strong bullet velocity even without the Reinforced Barrel, so with it it’s just incredible. Long Barrel is equally good on the Model L, especially if you’re going for those long-range fights. The biggest downside here is the low fire rate, but it’s not so bad that it really hinders the gun. If anything, it makes the long-range fights easier since the recoil is also lower. This is the easiest gun to control during extended fights in my opinion, so I highly recommend it.

4. GPR 91

Recommended Attachments:

  • Optic: 2x or 3x scope of choice
  • Muzzle: Compensator or Suppressor
  • Barrel: Reinforced Barrel or Long Barrel
  • Underbarrel: Vertical Foregrip
  • Mag: Extended Mag II

The GPR 91 feels like an absolute laser when it comes to recoil. While it does have higher base vertical recoil than the XM4, it has nearly 50% less horizontal recoil. This really makes a huge difference, and with the Vertical Foregrip it feels great all-around. A Compensator also helps even further with recoil, but you could go with a Suppressor if you feel comfortable with it as is. The firepower here isn’t as strong as the XM4, but you’ll hardly notice it. I love the GPR 91 because of how good it feels to use. Its handling is easily my favorite, and it’s very close in other regards as well. It’s solid at mid- and close-range, but I do prefer it at a closer mid-range. Further away it does fall off a bit, but even then, you can pretty much use it however you want to solid results.

5. Goblin Mk2

Recommended Attachments:

  • Optic: 2x or 3x scope of choice
  • Muzzle: Compensator or Suppressor
  • Barrel: Reinforced Barrel
  • Underbarrel: Vertical Foregrip
  • Mag: Extended Mag II

The Goblin Mk2 is the only semi-auto assault rifle in BO6. While this does make it worse in close-range fights for the most part, it allows more control than with any other assault rifle. The recoil is no problem here, and it has enough range to fulfill its destiny as a mid-to-long-range killer. I definitely recommend a 2x or 3x scope here, as they’re the best for mid-range fights on pretty much every assault rifle. Compensator and Suppressor are both good, but I do slightly prefer the recoil control of the Compensator. Suppressor keeps you off the mini-map, though, so it’s also a great pick. The Goblin Mk2 has insanely low TTK if used skillfully, and I just love using it to pick up quick kills at range. It’s sometimes underrated since it is a semi-auto weapon, but I think it’s more than deserving of a spot in the top 5 assault rifles for Warzone.
