How to Unlock Every Weapon in Warzone and MW2

Unlocking weapons in Warzone 2 and MW2 can be an annoying process. In addition to the standard amount of grinding you might expect, many weapon platforms require leveling up a different weapon to unlock. This process can seem overwhelming at first, but it becomes simpler as you look into how the process works. Here’s a brief guide on how to unlock every weapon in Warzone 2 and MW2, including each weapon platform and the new Season 1 weapons!

How Does Unlocking Weapons in Warzone 2 and MW2 Work?

Each weapon unlocks after either reaching a set player level or reaching a certain level with a different gun. For example, let’s look at the Kastovia Platform. You unlock the Kastov 762 at player Level 23, then you can begin progressing through the tree. You’ll need to level up the Kastov 762 to unlock the RPK and Kastov 545 first. Then you’ll be leveling the 545 to unlock the 74U, then the 74U to unlock the Minibak and Vaznev-9K.

It sounds confusing, but it’s really pretty simple when put into practice. However, it can be annoying having to unlock multiple weapons just to get to the one you want.

List of All Weapon Platforms

These are all the available weapon platforms in Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2. Each weapon platform represents a unique family of weapons, and you must progress through each weapon in the group to unlock them all. Some platforms are uniquely attributed to a single weapon, but we’ll cover those ones later.

Primary Weapon Platforms

  • M4
  • Tactique Verte
  • Kastovia
  • Lachmann & Meer
  • Bruen Bullpup
  • Bruen Ops [season 1]
  • Lachmann & Meer
  • Ordnance
  • LMP
  • Fennec
  • Lockwood Sport
  • Expedite
  • Bryson 800 Series
  • Sakin MG
  • RAAL
  • Bryson Long Rifle
  • Mark 2
  • MRBA
  • Imperatorium [season 1]
  • Signal

Handgun Platforms

There are also platforms for Handguns, but not the other secondary weapons. Launchers and Melee weapons are left out of the fun, unfortunately, but here’s a list of the three Handgun platforms we do have.

  • Bruen 890
  • XRK
  • Sakin G Series
  • Basilisk 500

How to Unlock Every Weapon in Modern Warfare 2

Since you don’t start out with everything unlocked, this section will show the requirements to unlock weapons for each platform. We’ll go in order by weapon platform, including a section for weapons whose platform only includes one weapon.

M4 Platform

Image: Infinity Ward & Activision via HGG / Brett Moss
  • M4 (Assault Rifle) — Unlocked from Start
  • FTAC Recon (Battle Rifle) — Level 13 with M4
  • 556 Icarus (LMG) — Level 18 with M4
  • FSS Hurricane (SMG) — Level 16 with FTAC Recon
  • M16 (Assault Rifle) — Level 13 with 556 Icarus

Overall, the M4 platform is one of the strongest you’ll have access to. The base M4 is known for how well-balanced it is for any situation, and is undoubtedly one of the top few ARs in the game. Plus, since the M4 platform has a fantastic iron sight, you don’t even really need to waste a slot on an optic. The FSS Hurricane is also a great weapon, even though it might not be the complete best SMG. It is, however, very close.

Tactique Verte Platform

Image: Infinity Ward & Activision via HGG / Brett Moss
  • TAQ-56 (Assault Rifle) — Unlocked at Player Level 19
  • TAQ-V (Battle Rifle) — Level 11 with TAQ-56
  • TAQ-M (LMG) — Level 19 with TAQ-56

The Tactique Verte platform has seen mixed reactions so far. A lot of people really love the TAQ-56, and it’d be hard to deny that it’s the best weapon for the platform. It’s a very accurate AR that’s strong at mid- to long-range combat, so it sees a lot of use in both MW2 and Warzone 2. The TAQ-56 is definitely worth trying out if you haven’t already, especially since you don’t even have to unlock anything else first.

Kastovia Platform

Image: Infinity Ward & Activision via HGG / Brett Moss
  • Kastov 762 (Assault Rifle) — Unlocked at Player Level 23
  • Kastov 545 (Assault Rifle) — Level 11 with Kastov 762
  • RPK (LMG) — Level 16 with Kastov 762
  • Kastov 74U (Assault Rifle) — Level 13 with Kastov 545
  • Vaznev-9K — Level 13 with Kastov 74U
  • Minibak — Level 18 with Kastov 74U

The Kastovia platform has a lot of weapons, and while it looks like many of them are just copies of one another, they’re actually really diverse. Even the three ARs have enough differences to each feel like a unique weapon, not just a copy. The Kastov 762 and 74U are both fantastic ARs, with the 762 better for range/high damage and the 74U better and close range. Either one can be used as an efficient primary weapon or backup for something stronger. The RPK is also good, especially seeing play in Warzone 2 where it can quickly shred through armor plates.

Lachmann & Meer Platform

Image: Infinity Ward & Activision via HGG / Brett Moss
  • Lachmann-762 (Battle Rifle) — Unlocked at Player Level 16
  • LM-S (Marksman Rifle) — Level 17 with Lachmann-762
  • Lachmann-556 (Assault Rifle) — Level 13 with Lachmann-762
  • Lachmann Sub (SMG) — Level 12 with Lachmann-556
  • RAPP H (LMG) — Level 16 with Lachmann-556

For the Lachmann & Meer platform, there are a few solid options. The 556 AR is known for its consistency, but isn’t the most explosive option. The SMG is most likely the strongest weapon in the Lachmann & Meer platform, and is also one of the best SMGs right now. It doesn’t do anything flashy, but it can be put to serious use at close range. The Lachmann Sub is an amazing choice for players that want something to optimize at up close, while the 556 AR is a solid longer-ranged pick if you don’t like the Sub’s range limitations.

Bruen Bullpup

Image: Infinity Ward & Activision via HGG / Brett Moss
  • STB 556 (Assault Rifle) — Unlocked at Player Level 41
  • MX9 (SMG) — Level 13 with STB 556
  • HCR 56 (LMG) — Level 20 with STB 556

There isn’t a whole lot going on with the Bruen Bullpup platform. The STB 556 is the best weapon here, but even it isn’t the best of its type. There is a lot of use for the STB 556, though, even though it’s not the overall best. It is a very steady weapon with low recoil and a solid rate of fire, so it can at the least be good in some game modes. And with the right attachments, it definitely competes with the best ARs in the game.

Ordnance Platform

Image: Infinity Ward & Activision via HGG / Brett Moss
  • EBR-14 (Marksman Rifle) — Unlocked from Start
  • SO-14 (Battle Rifle) — Level 12 with EBR-14

Neither of these weapons are very good. You can certainly use either if you like them, but it’s unlikely we’ll be seeing them on any meta lists anytime soon. Both fall into categories that are fairly underwhelming except for a few popular weapons, so they’re not seen too often.

Bryson 800 Series Platform

Image: Infinity Ward & Activision via HGG / Brett Moss
  • Bryson 800 (Shotgun) — Unlocked from Start
  • Bryson 890 (Shotgun) — Level 16 with Bryson 800

Unfortunately, of all the shotguns in MW2 and Warzone 2, these two are the worst. That doesn’t necessarily mean they’re useless, though. In MW2 at least, you can get a lot of use out of either one without too much downside (other than the 800 being a pump shotgun). The 800 is a perfectly fine shotgun that doesn’t do anything too interesting, and the 890 is just the same thing but a little worse.

Bryson Long Rifle Platform

Image: Infinity Ward & Activision via HGG / Brett Moss
  • SP-R 208 (Marksman Rifle) — Unlocked at Player Level 7
  • SA-B 50 (Marksman Rifle) — Level 13 with SP-R 208
  • LA-B 330 (Sniper Rifle) — Level 16 with SA-B 50
  • SP-X 80 (Sniper Rifle) — Level 17 with LA-B 330

The Bryson Long Rifle platform is more interesting than the Bryson 800 Series platform. The best weapon here by far is the SP-R 208, which can easily one-shot to the body (without armor plates). The SP-R 208 is not only very strong due to its high damage, but also has a good iron sights that you can use to pick up easy kills at mid-range. This is what gives it an advantage over snipers in many situations. Since it can be used so efficiently at multiple ranges, the SP-R 208 remains one of the best weapons in the game.

XRK Platform

Image: Infinity Ward & Activision via HGG / Brett Moss
  • X12 (Handgun) — Unlocked at Player Level 31
  • X13 Auto (Handgun) — Level 10 with X12

Platforms with One Weapon

These few platforms only include one weapon, but some still have requirements to unlock. Some of these platforms might have weapons added in the future, but for now, these are all the weapons with no platform family.
