CoD: Black Ops 6 – All SMGs Ranked for Standard Multiplayer

SMGs are probably the most popular weapon type in Black Ops 6, but which is the best?

SMGs have always been one of the most popular weapon types in Call of Duty. And this time around, it’s exactly the same. In fact, I’d argue they’ve never been more popular than right now. With this game having so many small maps perfect for close-range fights, SMGs are truly in a golden era. But that being said, they’re not all just as good as the next. In this article I’ll discuss all six SMGs in Black Ops 6, from the worst to the absolute best!

#6 PP-919

Special Camo Requirements:

  • Radiant Bath: Get 30 hipfire kills.
  • Midnight Prowl: Get 50 eliminations with the Specialist combat specialty equipped.

I don’t think the PP-919 is useless, but I don’t really know what it’s point is. It’s not as good at close range as it should be, it has a lower TTK, and it just feels mediocre all around. I really struggle to see a place where the PP-919 is a great weapon, or even a good one really. It does have a good recoil spread and high mag size, though, so at least there’s something to like here. Honestly, though, unless you really just like the feel of the gun, I wouldn’t recommend it in many scenarios.

#5 Kompakt 92

Special Camo Requirements:

  • Kingfisher: Get 30 hipfire kills.
  • Blackthorn: Get 30 kills shortly after sprinting.

The Kompakt 92 is a bit of a glass cannon. It has the best TTK of all SMGs right now, but takes more bullets to kill than any other. Its high recoil and low range make it very hard to use outside of close-range fights, and even at the longer ranged close-up fights it struggles. I’m not opposed to using the Kompakt 92, but I think it’s very important to remember how hard it can be to use. On maps like Stakeout where everything is happening super fast and up-close, I think it’s viable. But on most it’s just a bit too under-powered.

#4 Tanto .22

Special Camo Requirements:

  • Amorphous: Get 50 kills while moving.
  • Go Bananas: Get a kill without taking damage 30 times.

The Tanto .22 is the weirdest SMG in Black Ops 6 by far. It’s optimized for mid-range fights, with a slower fire rate than all other SMGs. It’s meant to be more accurate and heavy-hitting, which makes for a very unique weapon. Honestly, it’s hard to rank this one. While it is very good at these mid-range fights, it just doesn’t make a lot of sense for an SMG. And if you’re going for mid-range weapons, why not just take an Assault Rifle? Well, I can’t answer that really, but I can say that I don’t hate the Tanto as much as I thought I would. It’s certainly weird, but it is reliable for what it’s trying to do. You can get tons of kills with this thing, so it’s hard to be too critical of it, even if it does feel weird.

#3 C9

Special Camo Requirements:

  • Heatwave: Get 30 kills shortly after walking.
  • Panther: Get 50 kills while using a suppressor.

The C9 is kind of just an “all-rounder” SMG. It’s really good at close range like all SMGs should be, has good rate of fire, and isn’t too unstable. The damage fall-off at mid-range is pretty high, but not worse than most other SMGs. I personally really like the C9 for maps where I’m pretty much only going to be fighting up close. As soon as you enter the mid range, this weapon becomes very questionable. But if you make sure only to use it where it excels, there’s no real downside. And it’s not like SMGs are expected to be masters of the mid-range like Assault Rifles , so I don’t see any reason to hold them to the same standards. The C9 is a top tier SMG with really good TTK and high damage fall-off to balance it out.

#2 Jackal PDW

Special Camo Requirements:

  • Deep End: Get 30 kills shortly after sprinting.
  • Dread: Get 30 point blank kills.

The Jackal PDW is, in my opinion, a perfect example of what an SMG should strive to be. It feels great to use in almost every situation where an SMG is viable, thanks to a really good blend of strong range and reliable TTK. Running around with this thing just makes me feel like as long as I’m indoors or in a small area, I’ll be unstoppable. Due to its high mobility, the Jackal is also really good for those of you who want to be as fast as possible. It’s a small and reliable weapon with tons of potential and very few downsides.

#1 Best SMG Overall: KSV

Special Camo Requirements:

  • Kakapo: Get 2 kills without reloading 10 times.
  • Throwback: Get 50 kills while moving.

In my opinion, the KSV is the best SMG in Black Ops 6 multiplayer. It effectively feels like an upgraded version of the C9, with better overall stats. The TTK is lower, but it does start having damage fall-off at closer range. However, that doesn’t really bother me since this is another SMG that is definitely designed for up-close fights. It’s still serviceable at mid-range, but don’t expect to beat any ARs or other mid-range weapons with it. This one and the C9 really feel like the most “standard” SMGs in the game, with a mix of good stats designed for clearing out rooms at lightning speed. However, the KSV is just slightly better since it’s TTK is lower and it has a better “feel,” although that can be subjective.
