Black Ops 6 has honestly been the best multiplayer experience I’ve had in a COD game in quite some time. While it’s certainly not perfect, the pros heavily outweigh the cons. One of the good things here is how many multiplayer modes we get this time around (even if it sucks how often they take them away).
In this article, I’ll rate all the multiplayer modes in Black Ops 6 from worst to best!
Note: For this list, I’ve chosen not to include any of the 24/7 modes for a specific map, since they go away and come back so irregularly. I will include some of the special game modes that are currently available, even though they might go away at some point. Stakeout 24/7 is unquestionably my favorite game mode when it’s around, though.
#12 Kill Order
In Kill Order, one player on each team is marked as a target for the other team. That player gets bonus health and an improved radar, but they’re also marked on the map at all times. When the target dies, a new player on their team will become the target. This game mode isn’t the worst in COD history, but I just never enjoy it. Killing the target is annoying due to their buffs, and when I’m the target it feels like my entire team ignores me and leaves me to die. It can be chaotic in a fun way sometimes, but I just don’t enjoy it. Especially in hardcore mode, where the target is extremely over-powered.
#11 Headquarters
Headquarters has some major upsides, mainly in the way it disables enemy respawns while your team has control of the HQ. It’s a more strategic game mode, which is cool to see. That being said, I find it a bit annoying. I think the smaller nature of the BO6 maps don’t play well with this kind of mode for the most part. If you have a good team or a few friends to play with, you can have a lot of fun in HQ. But with random teams it just feels too slow.
#10 Infected
Infected is essentially a poor man’s Flood from Halo. The teams are made uneven, with two infected players and the rest as survivors. Infected players don’t get guns, but can convert enemies to their team (infecting them) by killing them. In general, I do like the concept of this mode. It’s fun to hide out as a survivor with your team to try and survive as long as possible. But more often than not, it feels like the survivors have too much of an advantage. If the infected were a lot faster, I think this would be more fun. But I absolutely dread being an infected in this, so it just doesn’t feel too fun.
#9 Control
In Control, one team has a set amount of time to capture the points, while the other team has to defend them. You can also stop the countdown timer by attacking and capturing points. I really like the idea of this game mode, and there isn’t really much bad to say about it. It’s strategic, forces team cooperation, and isn’t unnecessarily long. This mode is essentially a modified version of Domination with a bit of Search and Destroy thrown in. The only reason it’s this far down on the list is because of how good other modes are, not because it’s bad.
#8 Hardpoint
I’m probably a bigger fan of Hardpoint than most, but I think it’s great for a few reasons. Since there’s only one capture point, it forces everyone in one direction. This is always fun since you can just toss grenades and sit back and chill. You can use up-close weapons or sit away and snipe, or just run around and hope for the best. It’s certainly chaotic and can be overwhelming at times, but that’s the whole point.
#7 Team Deathmatch
There’s nothing simpler than Team Deathmatch. You just spawn and go find people to shoot, gaining points for doing so. You can use strategy or you can just run around, and you don’t even have to worry about your teammates ignoring the objectives like they often do. This is by far the simplest game mode, which makes it fun but not too groundbreaking. It can get old after a while for sure, but it’s hard to hate.
#6 Search and Destroy
Search and Destroy is the premier competitive mode in BO6. Since you don’t respawn, it forces you to take things more seriously and utilize strategy as opposed to running around like mad. It’s basically the same thing as Counter Strike, with one team having to destroy objectives with a bomb while the other defends. S&D is a classic mode present in all COD games, and it’s been that way for a reason. It is really competitive though, so it can be frustrating if you aren’t doing well.
#5 10v10 Moshpit
This is the most chaotic mode in BO6. 10v10 Moshpit has massive teams, chaotic objectives, and endless fun. I really like this mode in hardcore, where the chaos is even more amplified. It’s always a good time, as long as you don’t mind being constantly killed by either enemies or your own teammates. Plus, the fact that it has a mixture of game modes within it just makes it even more fun.
#4 Free-For-All
This one is easy to explain. Free-For-All is constant action with no teams or alliances. It’s great for farming headshots for camos, proving your skill, learning new weapons, and much more. If you want to prove you’re the best, FFA is the place to do it.
#3 Prop Hunt
There’s no doubt about it–Prop Hunt is the funniest game mode in Black Ops 6. One team is tasked with disguising themselves as items around the map, and the other team hunts them. The items to disguise as range from everything from a box or watermelon all the way to a massive filing cabinet or rusted old car. This mode is pure stupidity in the best way possible. If you have some friends to play with, it’s certain to be one of the most fun ways to play the game. It does get old after a few rounds, but it’s perfect for just having a bit of quick fun.
#2 Kill Confirmed
Kill Confirmed is my favorite of the non-objective game modes. It’s very similar to TDM in that you just have to kill people, but there’s the added bonus of having to pick up their dog tags to score points. This prevents camping and forces players to be more mobile, which leads to more exciting gameplay. It’s also a great way to gain even more weapon XP, since the tags give XP. In both core and hardcore modes, Kill Confirmed is a classic mode to the franchise that I hope never goes away.
#1 Domination
In my opinion, Domination is the best game mode in Black Ops 6. It’s the bread and butter of the series at this point. You spawn with three objectives to capture and score points by doing so. It’s simple and competitive, and it leads to some of the best gameplay in the series. If you like Call of Duty, I can’t imagine not enjoying Domination. It feels like every game these days has a version of this game mode, but none do it as well as Call of Duty.
