Submachine guns are aggressive, high-speed, high-damage weapons that excel in close-range combat. They’re immensely popular in Warzone and are championed for their ability to annihilate multiple opponents at a time with their high-damage output and exceptional speed in close-range gunfights. When you’re trapped in a building and surrounded by the enemy team, an SMG will most definitely give you the best chance of coming out on top.
While they may not provide the range or accuracy or assault rifles, they destroy the competition in any stressful, close-quarter gunfight scenario. They’re at their best when they are paired with a deadly assault rifle that can make up for the range that an SMG lacks. Experimenting with different AR and SMG loadout combinations will be the key to finding the strongest loadout that works best for you this season.
Although some of Warzone’s newer and most overpowered SMGs were nerfed recently, these adjustments have not stopped them from dominating the current meta. In this guide, we’ll rank the 7 best SMGs in COD: Warzone in Season 6.
Let’s get started!
7 Best SMGs in CoD: Warzone Season 6
What is the best SMG in Warzone? Currently, there are a total of twenty-two SMGs in Warzone — while there’s a wide selection for this class of weapons, we’ve narrowed it down to the top seven picks to help you focus on getting the most powerful and reliable SMGs this season.
Warzone’s most practical SMG
Why is it one of the best? The Bullfrog is the best SMG in Warzone Season 6 because of its ease of use, massive magazine size, and disgustingly powerful headshot multiplier. In fact, it has one of the highest headshot multipliers in the SMG category. Pair this with its huge magazine size and easy recoil pattern, and you’ll destroy your opponent in any close combat situation nine times out of ten.
In Call of Duty’s most recent 1.42.5 patch notes, the Bullfrog is called a “true jack of all trades” for its exceptional “mobility, effective damage range, handling, and base magazine capacity.” Its naturally huge magazine capacity lets you unleash endless bullets before having to reload, which is a major advantage in close-quarter combat situations.
What are its best attachments? This popular loadout concentrates on boosting the Bullfrog’s movement speed, which helps you down your opponents faster. The GRU Suppressor keeps you hidden from your enemies maps while firing, and increases your damage range.
The 7.4” Task Force barrel gives you max damage output, while the KGB Skeletal Stock lets you aim down your sights faster. Lastly, the Tiger Team Spotlight and the Bruiser Grip significantly boost your movement, strafe speed (moving left to right), and hip-fire accuracy.
How do I get it? All you have to do is reach Level 43 to unlock this overpowered SMG.
Warzone’s deadliest close-quarters SMG
Why is it one of the best? Ever since it was released in Season 4, this has been one of the best SMGs to use for its damage output, mobility, and accuracy. Even though it received some pretty substantial nerfs back in September, they haven’t stopped it from being one of the best TTK SMGs in Warzone to use in Season 6.
While its Headshot Multiplier and Neck Multiplier were nerfed, its TTK is still extremely fast. Although some criticize its lower magazine size, its insane mobility, damage output, and high fire rate make up for it. There are few SMGs that can match its balanced stats and its TTK in close-quarter gunfights.
What are its best attachments? This loadout focuses on making the OTs9 even more dangerous in close-range combat. The GRU Suppressor and 8.1” Task Force barrel increase damage range, bullet velocity, and recoil control. The Spetsnaz Grip improves recoil control, while the Serpent Wrap boosts ADS speed. Lastly, the Spetsnaz 40 Rnd gives the OTs9 its max amount of rounds so it can perform to the best of its ability.
How can I get it? The best way to unlock this SMG is to complete the in-game Warzone challenge. You’ll need to get a double kill with an SMG in fifteen different matches. Respawn modes like Plunder will help you complete this objective much faster.
3. MP5 (Cold War)
Warzone’s most versatile Cold War SMG
Why is it one of the best? Cold War’s easy-to-use MP5 is the only SMG that can remotely keep up with the OTs9’s TTK. Some would argue that it is better than the OTs9 because it can be better enhanced with attachments.
While some weapons can only be slightly improved with attachments, this SMG becomes a complete monster when you add powerful attachments to its incredible high damage. The MP5 also has a larger magazine than the OTs9, and best-in-class damage. However, the OTs9’s insane TTK and mobility keep it just above the MP5.
What are its best attachments? Once again, we’re focusing on a loadout that takes the MP5’s close-range power to the highest level. The Agency Suppressor improves your range and keeps you hidden from the mini-map. The Raider Stock replaces the barrel and offers more mobility, which will serve you better in a close-range gunfight.
The Field Agent Grip gives you more horizontal and vertical recoil control. The Tiger Team Spotlight substantially increases movement speed and walking while ADSing. Lastly, the STANAG 50 Rnd Drum mag allows you to melt the competition without having to worry about reloading.
How do I get it? All you need to do is reach Level 4 — it’s that easy.
Warzone’s most comfortable SMG
Why is it one of the best? Although several nerfs have made this SMG fall from its former glory, it’s still very much a contender for the best SMGs in Warzone. While it can’t quite keep up with the OTs9 or the MP5, it has excellent mobility, an insane rate of fire, and low recoil. While its TTK isn’t what it used to be, it makes up the difference with its ease of use.
In fact, the MAC-10’s ease of use is its best quality. It’s very similar to the Krig 6, one of Warzone’s best ARs. Although it may not deal out the damage that other SMG’s do, it’s much easier to master and can be made even stronger with the right attachments. Its low recoil, coupled with its large magazine, will get you far in the competition.
What are its best attachments? This loadout is all about making the MAC-10 much stronger in close-range gunfights. The Agency Suppressor keeps you hidden from the minimap, and boosts your bullet velocity, vertical recoil control, and damage range. The 5.9” Task Force greatly improves your range, damage, and mobility, while the Tiger Team Spotlight significantly increases your movement speed.
Although these attachments do negatively affect your mobility, the Raider Stock keeps you balanced by adding more mobility. If you prefer more of an emphasis on mobility, opt for no barrel and replace it with the Raider Stock. Finally, go with the STANAG 53 Rnd Drum, which takes your worries off your next reload and lets you get more damage onto your opponent.
How do I get it? You have to kill two or more players rapidly across fifteen different matches using any SMGs. Once again, re-spawn modes like Plunder speed up the process by giving you more chances at completing your objective.
Warzone’s newest heavy-hitting SMG
Why is it one of the best? The LAPA is a lightweight, full-auto submachine gun that has decent firing control and solid damage output. While it does have a slower fire rate, it’s a beast in the hands of seasoned and skilled players. Like the Bullfrog, it deals enormous headshot damage and bonus neck damage that is almost as high. However, it can’t quite contend with previous top picks because of its slow rate of fire and its low stomach and limb damage.
Its distinctive barrels, which change damage and rate of fire, can help with this problem. Despite its setbacks, it’s teeming with potential and is climbing up the ranks in Season 6. With the right player, it is easily one of the best SMGs for Verdansk and Rebirth Island.
What are its best attachments? What the LAPA lacks in range it makes up for with disgusting close-range damage. The Agency Suppressor improves its range and bullet velocity. The 7.9” Rifled Barrel helps fix the LAPA’s unbalanced damage problem by spreading its damage more to the stomach and limbs. The Tiger Team Spotlight and the Raider Stock significantly boost your movement speed.
This particular SMG has some rough ironsights, so you may want to replace the Raider Stock or the Rifled Barrel with an optic like the Microflex LED. Lastly you’ll want to attach the fifty-round magazine, which is the largest one it can hold.
How do I get it? You’ll need to complete all nine of the Haunting Event’s Challenges in either Black Ops, Cold War, or Warzone; however, this event ends on November 2nd. A new unlock challenge has yet to be announced, but we’ll update this guide once it’s released.
Warzone’s most dependable WWII SMG
Why is it one of the best? This classic SMG has largely and surprisingly remained untouched by nerfs since its release during Season 3.
Its recent Weapon Kick and ADS Sway buffs make it a very viable choice for Season 6. It has an insanely fast rate of fire, low recoil, and great bullet velocity. While it does have a lower damage output, it can absolutely shred the competition with the right loadout. Its solid mobility, range, and seventy-one-round magazine give it what it needs to stand out amongst the competition.
What are its best attachments? This loadout focuses on boosting damage range and bullet velocity. The GRU Suppressor boosts damage range, bullet velocity, and vertical recoil control. Although the 15.7” Task Force negatively affects recoil control, it significantly increases damage range and bullet velocity.
The Serpent Wrap improves aim down sight speed, while the Raider Stock boosts sprint to fire time, aim down sight firing move speed, and aim walking move speed. Lastly, the Spetsnaz 71 Rnd Drum gives you all the bullets you’ll need to down multiple opponents.
How do I get it? You’ll have to get three kills immediately after sprinting in fifteen different completed matches using only SMGs. Once again, respawn modes like Plunder will help you complete this objective faster.
7. MP5 (Modern Warfare)
Warzone’s most powerful hipfire SMG
Why is it one of the best? Although it received a nerf during Season 5 that put it behind its Cold War counterpart, the exceptional hipfire spread and damage output of the MP5 keep it on the top-tier list. In fact, it is the only Modern Warfare SMG that can match the OTs9’s damage. Its fast TTK, high fire rate, and great mobility also make it a solid option for Warzone season 6 and the best hipfire smg in Warzone.
What are its best attachments? This loadout concentrates on enhancing hipfire accuracy and mobility in close-range fights. The Monolithic Integral Suppressor boosts bullet velocity and range. The 5mW Laser increases hipfire accuracy, while the Merc Foregrip improves aim down sight speed and recoil management. The FTAC Collapsible adds even more mobility, and the 45 Round Mags give the MP5 a little more ammo to down your enemies with.
How do I get it? All you need to do is reach Level 12.
