Grimoires are a new type of customizable spell in the Elder Scrolls Online introduced with the Scribing system and Gold Road Chapter. They can be altered with different Scripts to fit your needs and build. In this guide, I will break down how each Grimoire works and how you can customize them to make some interesting skills to use on your adventures.
Available Grimoires
Below is a table with the available Grimoires and their base abilities, this will be updated as new Grimoires are added to ESO. You can purchase Grimoires from Chronicler Firandil in the Scholarium. Each Grimoire is available for 50,000 Gold and 10,000 Gold if you already own it on another toon (character). Check out our Beginner Scribing Guide for information on the Scholarium vendors & more.

Fun Scribed Skills
In this section, I will cover some fun examples of what you can do with Scribing to help you get started. If you are new to Scribing or just looking to try something new, the options below may be useful to you.
Mender’s Bond
Mender’s Bond is good option for healers from various classes if you just need an extra heal ability and want a fun alternative to the skills from the Restoration staff skill line. Since you can choose whether the tether provides someone with a shield, extra healing, or something else, Mender’s Bond can be a great addition to your build. I chose to add a damage shield and Minor Heroism to aid my allies in generating their ultimate.
Elemental Explosion
Though this skill takes a couple of extra seconds to cast, it is nice in overland or dungeon content. This one is very effective for mobs and I have enjoyed using it in various scenarios. I really like using the Signature Script Lingering Torment that turns the skill into a Damage Over Time ability. If you use a Destruction Staff in your build this can be useful most roles as long as you choose scripts that fits your build.
Trample
I decided to include Trample to this list of Grimoires because it is one of the most unique and fun skills on the list. I have found that this skill is great for applying debuffs to an enemy. It has a pretty quick cast time as well making it fit seamlessly into my rotation. I am currently using Pestilent Trample and it afflicts enemies with Minor Vulnerability (Affix Script).
Some honorable mentions that I recommend trying are Ulfsild’s Contingency and Banner Bearer. Both allow for flexibility and can be helpful with making creative, fun builds.
Tips and Tricks
Finally, I wanted to share some tips that helped me with creating some fun and effective Scribed skills. I hope these help you with Scribing.
- Check out the complete list of all Scripts on ESO Hub, they even have a helpful Scribing simulator where you can test out some combinations.
- When choosing a Grimoire, make sure to choose one that will enhance your build and fit your character’s playstyle. Scribing can help you fill holes in your character’s build and make them even stronger.
- Once you get to know the available scripts, decide what would be a useful addition for your build like providing a debuff, adding extra healing, or ultimate regeneration.
- Test out your Scribed Skills in various settings like the Infinite Archive, normal Dungeons, and against World Bosses. You can also test out skills that you have Scribed in the Training Room in the Scholarium.
Good luck on your Scribing adventure!
