The Best Discard Cards and Decks in Marvel Snap

The discard deck archetype is very popular among Marvel Snap players. You’ll find these decks present throughout each of Marvel Snap’s card pools, only with different cards depending on the pool. Although there are a lot of different ways to play this type of deck, several cards are common throughout most.

That’s why today we are breaking down the best discard cards in Marvel Snap, ranking them on their usefulness, and giving you some tips on how to put them together to make some terrifying decks and combos.

Best Discard Cards in Marvel Snap

Let’s dive right into our list of cards for the best discard decks in Marvel Snap, ranked from strong to superior!

10/10

Sword Master

Although he doesn’t do anything particularly special beyond discarding a random card from the player’s hand, Sword Master is useful in most discard decks because of his high Power relative to his Cost.

He’s a 3-Cost/6-Power card, meaning he can be played pretty early on and give players a solid boost of Power to the location where he is played. Although the card he discards from your hand is random, he can still prove quite useful given a solid hand to work with.

9/10

Dracula

The vampire lord himself finds a variety of uses in Marvel Snap, but he is also one of the best discard cards in Marvel Snap as well. While he is a 4-Cost card with a Power of only 0, his ability is what really makes him worthwhile.

At the end of the match, Dracula discards a random card from your hand and inherits its Power level. For discard decks, this card is perfect to combo with Apocalypse, who can be powered up by being discarded multiple times a match. Then, on the final turn, if Apocalypse is the only card remaining in your hand, Dracula can discard him and gain his power for a fraction of the Cost.

8/10

Colleen Wing

Much like Sword Master, Colleen Wing is most useful in discard decks due to her ability. Unlike Sword Master, her ability discards the lowest Cost card in your hand. This ability is helpful for controlling which cards get discarded when.

Ideally, Colleen Wing would be used to discard a card like Swarm in order to trigger his ability. Otherwise, Colleen Wing is a pretty solid 2-Cost/4-Power card. If nothing else, she can be used to control the tempo of the match and help set up useful combos for other cards in your hand.

7/10

Swarm

As mentioned before, Swarm pairs excellently with Colleen Wing as a 2-Cost/3-Power card. With its relatively low Cost, it can easily be targeted by Colleen Wing for discarding.

Upon being discarded, two copies of Swarm each with 0 Cost will be added to your hand. This is an easy way to get cards on the field using the synergy of a discard deck. Cards that can increase the Power of others in your hand such as Nakia are even better, since the copies of Swarm that replace it when discarded will retain the same Power as the original.

6/10

Morbius

While not benefiting from being discarded himself, Morbius benefits when you discard other cards. Despite being hit with a nerf during the latest patch for Marvel Snap, Morbius is still quite useful. His ability grants him +2 Power each time a card is discarded while he is on the field.

Previously, he would gain this power increase regardless of his position in a player’s deck. Despite this change, he is still quite good, as he can be played early and benefit from a deck designed to discard as many cards as possible.

5/10

Apocalypse

For lower-pool discard decks, Apocalypse is the most important card. He is a 6-Cost/8-Power card that returns to your hand with +4 Power each time he is discarded. This means he can reach some crazy power levels depending on how many times he gets discarded.

Playing Apocalypse on turn six, after he’s been powered up, can be devastating for opponents. In higher pools he is not quite as crucial, but can still be very useful. Apocalypse has great synergy with cards like Lady Sif and Dracula, making him one of the best discard cards in Marvel Snap.

4/10

Lady Sif

Lady Sif is in a similar position to Colleen Wing where her ability allows players to have some control over the cards they discard. She is a 3-Cost/4-Power card with the ability to discard the highest Cost card from your hand. As such, she pairs especially well with Apocalypse.

This is because she is almost guaranteed to discard him and activate his ability. Lady Sif also shines in MODOK/Hela decks because she helps discard high-cost cards like The Infinaut and Giganto even before MODOK is played. With all of this versatility, Lady Sif is essential in nearly every discard deck in Marvel Snap.

3/10

Invisible Woman

Although not typically associated with discard decks, Invisible Woman is a crucial part of one of the best discard strategies in Marvel Snap. She is a 2-Cost/2-Power card with the ability to prevent cards from being revealed at her location until the end of the game.

This ability may not seem relevant to discard decks, but when combined with MODOK and Hela it can create a devastating scenario for opponents. The great thing about Invisible Woman is that she is a relatively low-cost card. As such, you can play her fairly early in a match and set up her surprise combo with MODOK and Hela without opponents knowing.

2/10

MODOK

MODOK is made for discard decks in Marvel Snap. He is a 5-Cost/8-Power card with the On Reveal ability to discard every card in your hand. This ability can be beneficial for a variety of reasons. It can help greatly boost the power of Morbius, or guarantee that Apocalypse is the only card left in your hand for Dracula to take advantage of. He also works wonders when paired with Hela.

MODOK functions better when you have more cards in your hand, so filling your deck with some powerful, high-cost cards can be beneficial when it comes time to play MODOK. To successfully pull off his combo with Invisible Woman and Hela, you should play MODOK on turn five at the same location as Invisible Woman.

1/10

Hela

Hela is the crux of some of the best discard decks in Marvel Snap. She is especially powerful thanks to the combo she can create with Invisible Woman and MODOK. She is a 6-Cost/6-Power card with the awesome On Reveal ability to bring each discarded card back to the field in random locations.

Playing Invisible Woman, MODOK, and then Hela means that on the final turn, MODOK will discard every card in your hand and then Hela will immediately bring them all onto the field. Depending on what cards were in your hand, this move can be almost impossible for opponents to come back from. As such, it’s clear Hela is the best discard card in Marvel Snap.

How to Play Discard Decks in Marvel Snap | 2 Best Discard Decks

There are two broad categories of discard decks in Marvel Snap: ones that utilize Dracula and Apocalypse and others that utilize the combo of MODOK, Hela, and Invisible Woman. While most of the cards on this list can be beneficial in either style, their usage may differ slightly.

1. Dracula/Apocalypse Discard Deck

The goal of this deck is to have Dracula on the field and discard Apocalypse as many times as possible so that Dracula can gain Apocalypse’s Power level by the end of the game. As such, most of the low-cost cards in this deck will consist of ones like Blade, Morbius, and potentially Sunspot. Blade is used to discard cards early on, but he is not guaranteed to discard Apocalypse.

Mid-cost cards like Okoye and Nakia can be useful here to help power up the Swarm in your hand. That way, when Apocalypse is discarded by Colleen Wing, his copies are even stronger. Sword Master is another solid option for discarding cards, but Lady Sif will almost guarantee that Apocalypse is discarded. Dracula should be played on turn four if possible, but it may be worthwhile to bide your time and play him strategically on turn six.

MODOK can serve as one final way to discard Apocalypse, but make sure you are not accidentally discarding cards that you still need. America Chavez works well for this deck in the situation where Apocalypse isn’t drawn during the match. Since she is a guaranteed draw on turn six, America Chavez can also fulfill the role of Apocalypse in a pinch.

2. MODOK/Hela/Invisible Woman Discard Deck

This deck plays a little differently from the previous one. The goal of this deck is to fill your hand with powerful cards that will be discarded with MODOK and then resurrected with Hela on turn six to gain a huge last-minute advantage over your opponent. While this deck can be very powerful, it can also be a little tricky to set up.

With no 1-Cost cards in this deck, you’ll have to skip turn one. Ideally, you should play Invisible Woman on turn two, followed by either Electro, Wave, or Lady Sif on turn three. Electro is great because his ability gives you +1 Energy per turn at the cost of only being able to play one card per turn.

Wave can be helpful in getting MODOK on the field early since her ability makes all cards cost 4 the next turn. Lady Sif is once again one of the best discard deck staples, as she can help discard high-power cards early. Ghost Rider’s ability also brings cards back, albeit as a weaker version of Hela’s, since it only brings back one discarded card.

The key to this deck is being able to play MODOK and Hela on turn five and six, respectively, at the same location as Invisible Woman. This way, at the end of the game, MODOK reveals first and destroys your hand. Then, Hela reveals and resurrects all the cards that were just discarded. Filling your hand with some of the game’s highest Power cards, like Magneto, America Chavez, Giganto, and The Infinaut, means you can quickly get a ton of powerful cards on the field with this combo. Nick Fury also makes a great addition. His ability puts three random 6-Cost cards in your hand, potentially giving you even more powerful cards to work with.
