Clash Royale is one of several mobile games by Supercell, and it’s arguably the most competitive. There are a ton of things that keep players coming back to Clash Royale even after 7+ years, and in this article we’ll discuss them! Whether you’re brand new to Clash or you’ve been playing since the beginning, we have something for everyone here. This Season in Clash Royale (Season 53 – Little Prince, Big Trouble)
- Balance Changes (Patch Notes)
- New Champion Card
- New Evolution
- New Events and Challenges
Season 53 of Clash Royale (Little Prince, Big Trouble) runs through the rest of November, so you have plenty of time to get all those pass rewards and new cards! In addition to the new content that’s been added, there’s also new challenges in the seasonal shop and new cache of Season Tokens to collect. In this article we’ll look at all the new content in this season, and we’ll get started with a look at the balance changes!
Balance Changes (Nov 2023)
- Evolved Skeletons – First Hit Speed: 0.5 sec → 0.4 sec
- Evolved Bats – First Hit Speed: 0.5 sec → 0.2 sec
- Evolved Knight – Bonus Hit Speed: -0.3 sec → -0.1 sec
- Evolved Royal Recruits – Bonus Damage: 12% → 6%
- Little Prince – Royal Rescue Dash Distance: 5 → 4.5
This month’s balance changes mainly see adjustments to several Evolutions, and also a minor one for the new Little Prince card. Evolved Skeletons and Bats both get a small buff here which allows them to start fighting faster, which helps both a ton since they both have on-hit abilities. It’s seems unlikely that this buff will make either Evolution overpowered, but it’ll certainly help both become more viable picks.
Evolved Knight has had a major presence in Clash Royale ever since it was introduced, which has seen it in a ton of decks. This is a pretty significant nerf to the Evolved Knight, as it reduces his damage by 18% at Level 11 (according to the in-game patch notes). We’ll have to see how these changes play out, but this nerf is definitely significant enough to bring the Knight down a bit. Evolved Royal Recruits also get a similar damage nerf, but it’s not nearly as large. Their overall damage ends up getting reduced by 5%, but they’re still strong enough to use.
The last change here is a minor one to the new Little Prince. Even though it only came out a few days ago, we’ve already seen a ton of the Little Prince and his Guardian. This nerf reduces the dash distance of the Guardian when it spawns, which makes it a little worse at offense but still very strong for defending.
New Champion – Little Prince
Little Prince is a ranged ground troop capable of targeting air and ground enemies. He has 700 HP at level 11, which isn’t a ton, but it’s enough to survive many spells like Fireball and The Log. The most notable aspect of Little Prince himself is his attack speed. As long as he’s standing still, he gains attack speed after every shot fired. This can drop his hit speed from his standard 1.2 seconds to an insane 0.4 seconds. That allows him to be good at shredding tanks and dangerous high-HP threats like Balloon or Electro Giant with ease.
As with every Champion, Little Prince also has a Champion ability that gives him even more power. For a high cost of 3 Elixir, Little Prince’s ability calls in some backup to help him out. The Little Prince’s Guardian is a much larger melee-based knight which is great for tanking for either the Little Prince or any other support units you might have out. The Elixir cost is higher than any other Champion’s, but it seems worthwhile since it literally spawns an extra troop. And the Guardian is no slacker, as he’s more than capable of tanking for quite a while before getting taken out.
The Little Prince is both a support unit and a tank in one, so he’s definitely going to have lots of decks based around him. However, figuring out where he fits might be hard. Do you use him primarily as a support unit and use the Guardian only if needed, or play around the Guardian entirely? You could do either one, but time will tell what the best role for Little Prince is.
How to Get Little Prince (Nov 2023)
For a limited time only, Little Prince is available for free for any player in Arena 11 or higher. Just click on the Champion / Little Prince icon on the menu to do a few shorts missions which will let you unlock Little Prince for free! And it’ll only take a few minutes, so it won’t even take up too much of your time.
New Evolution – Archers
This season’s new evolution is for the Archers card. It’s not quite as drastic of an evolution as some others we’ve seen, but it does seem really strong. Evolved Archers have the same Elixir cost (3) as the normal version, and they have a cycle cost of 2 (you’ll have to cast 2 Archers before the evolved version).
The evolved Archers’ new ability is called Power Shot. Power Shot doubles the damage of the Archers’ shots, but only works if their target is far away from them. According to the Clash Royale wiki, the distance to activate Power Shot is about 6-7 tiles, so try to keep your Archers as far back as possible so they don’t get too close.
When comparing Archers to other evolutions, they seem to fall somewhere in the middle. They aren’t as heavily upgraded as evolutions like Royal Giant or Firecracker, but they still did get a great buff. The Power Shot bonus is really great for defending against numerous air threats, as long as they don’t get too close. As always, Archers are still fairly easy to kill, even though they do get an additional +25% HP boost when evolved. This is a great evolution that feels fairly balanced so far–a trend I personally hope continues, because evolutions feel much better now than they did upon release.
How to Get the Archers Evolution?
Unfortunately, Supercell isn’t as charitable with evolutions as they are with Champions. If you want the evolved Archers, you have two options. The first is to buy the Premium Season Pass (which costs around $11.99 USD) and progress to level 13 in the pass to unlock all 6 Shards. If you don’t want to do that or already have a bunch of Evolution Shards saved up, you can spend 6 of them to unlock the evolved Archers instantly.
New Challenges and Events (Nov 2023)
- Champion Triple Draft (Nov 6-13)
- Royal Tournament Standard (Nov 11-15)
- Barrels o’ Fun (Nov 13-20)
- Archers Evolution Draft (Nov 20-27)
- Royal Tournament Megadraft (Nov 25-29)
- Tavern Brawl 1v1 and 2v2 (Nov 27 – Dec 4)
Challenges are some of the most fun things to take part in in Clash Royale, and they usually include lots of great rewards to obtain as well. The Champion Triple Draft gives us a chance to try out the new Little Prince Champion card without worrying about trophies or anything, so it’s definitely worth trying out. Then we’ll have Archers Evolution Draft later this month, so that anyone who hasn’t gotten the Archers’ evolution by then will have a chance to try it out. In between those two notable events, there will also be plenty more with tons of loot and fun new game modes to try!
20-Win Challenge (Nov 2023)
The 20-Win Challenge is the hardest challenge in Clash Royale. To finish the whole challenge, you’ll have to win 20 matches without losing 3. To say this is an easy feat would be an understatement, but it’s far from possible. In this month’s 20-Win Challenge you’ll be able to acquire some incredible loot that makes the grind far more than worth it, even if it is a headache.
The current 20-Win Challenge runs from November 15-20, so don’t wait too long before you try it out! If you have the Pass Royale, you’ll be able to reset your event card and try again however many times you want. You won’t be able to start from where you left off, though, so it’s still just as hard for everyone. If you don’t have the Pass Royale, you get 3 free attempts and you can pay for more with Gems.
If you’re planning to take on the 20-Win Challenge, you’ll be getting a ton of great loot as you go. Here are all the rewards for the current challenge:
- 2 Wins – 10,000 Gold
- 4 Wins – 20,000 Gold
- 6 Wins – 30,000 Gold
- 8 Wins – 40,000 Gold
- 10 Wins – Epic Chest
- 12 Wins – 15,000 Elite Wild Cards
- 14 Wins – 25,000 Elite Wild Cards
- 16 Wins – 50,000 Elite Wild Cards
- 18 Wins – Legendary King Chest
- 20 Wins – Special Emote
