Best Heroes and Builds in Fortnite: Save the World (2024)

Similar to its Battle Royale counterpart, Fortnite: Save The World offers players hundreds of different characters to choose from. However, unlike in the Battle Royale, these characters, or “heroes” as they are called in Fortnite: Save The World, come with unique abilities, perks, and classes.

While hero selection may not seem important at the beginning of the game, you’ll start to feel the consequences of a weak hero once you reach the end-game. But fear not, that’s where we come in. In this guide, we’ll cover the best heroes in Fortnite: Save the World and how to optimize their builds.

The Classes

Before we get into the builds, we need to know what we’re going to be building. For anyone new to Fortnite: Save The World or just needing a refresher, we’ll quickly go over the four hero classes and what they do.

Soldiers

If ranged combat is your preference, then the Soldier class is the one for you. Among the four classes, the Soldier is one of the most versatile, focusing on maximizing the damage of your ranged weapons. They come equipped with passive abilities that boost ranged damage, reduce recoil, shorten reload time, and more. The Soldier class can also possess active abilities such as Frag Grenade, Shockwave, and War Cry.

Constructors

Next up, we have the Constructor class. These heroes are the resident builders in Fortnite: Save The World. Sporting the highest base health and shields in the game, Constructors are as tanky as the bases they build. The Constructor’s main mission in the game is to make sure nothing can break through your defenses and to control the crowd so that they can’t get close. Some abilities the Constructor can come with are Plasma Pulse, R.O.S.I.E., and Bull Rush.

Ninjas

If you enjoy close-quarters combat, then the Ninja class is perfect for you. These heroes excel at using melee weapons and have the best mobility in the game. Although they have the lowest health and shields of the four classes, their ability to escape combat means they don’t need as much protection. They also don’t take fall damage, which is always a plus. Some of the abilities the Ninja can come with are Dragon Slash, Kunai Storm, and Smoke Bomb.

Outlanders

Last but certainly not least are the Outlanders. If you ever want to gather resources quickly, then the Outlander is the perfect class for you. Although they may lack combat effectiveness, they make up for it by gathering more loot and building materials than the other three classes combined. And in a game all about gathering resources to build things with, you can easily see where this class shines. Some abilities that the Outlanders can have are Seismic Smash, T.E.D.D.Y, and Phase Shift.

Best Heroes & Builds in Fortnite: Save the World

We’ll go over the best hero for each class type in Fornite: Save the World and how to optimally build them.

Best Soldier Hero: Tactical Assault Sledgehammer

Tactical Assault Sledgehammer - Best Soldier Hero in Fortnite: Save the World

The first hero in our guide is Tactical Assault Sledgehammer. When it comes to the Soldier class and wielding an assault rifle, Sledgehammer is an absolute beast. This is due to his commander perk, Assault Crit Damage +, which increases assault and SMG critical damage by a whopping 225%. This perk alone makes Sledgehammer one of the best heroes in Fortnite: Save the World. With loadouts, however, he becomes even better.

The loadout perks are as follows:

  • Saurian Might: Every 1s, adds 3% of current health to damage of next ranged weapon hit
  • Mad Tidings: Firing a ranged weapon grants one stack of Holiday Spirit, up to fifty stacks. Each stack increases ranged weapon damage by one percent but decreases weapon stability by 0.2%. The buff is removed when reloading or swapping weapons.
  • Survivalist: Eliminations heal you for thirty-nine base health for over 3s. Duration refreshes with Eliminations
  • Saurian Hide: While shield is depleted, increase armor by 33
  • Fleet: Increase movement speed by 12.5%
  • Blast From The Past [Team Perk]: Removes all shields and increases max health by 200%

As you can see from the perk list, we aim to increase our assault weapon damage while also enhancing our survivability. This ensures that Sledgehammer can both deal and withstand damage.

Best Constructor Hero: B.A.S.E Kyle

B.A.S.E Kyle - Best Constructor Hero in Fortnite: Save the World

With a class dedicated to improving buildings, a perk that increases building health is essential. B.A.S.E Kyle is one of my personal favorite Constructors to play because his commander perk that adds +84% building health really makes a difference. With the right support team backing him up, Kyle can turn his buildings into absolute nightmares for the Husks.

The loadout perks are as follows:

  • Electrified Floors: Enemies standing on structures affected by B.A.S.E take 12.7 base energy damage every 5s
  • Power Modulation: Structures affected by B.A.S.E are healed for 4% of max health every 10s
  • Feel The B.A.S.E: Eliminating enemies standing on structures affected by B.A.S.E charges B.A.S.E. After thirty charges, B.A.S.E emits an explosion which knocks back enemies and deals thirty-nine base energy damage in a three-tile radius.
  • Fully Contained: Enemies that melee attack structures affected by B.A.S.E take fifteen base damage.
  • Tough Traps: Increase trap durability by 17.5%
  • Supercharged Traps [Team Perk]: For each Constructor increase damage of traps affected by B.A.S.E by 8.5%.

The focus of this loadout is to strengthen our structures and ensure that any Husk or Mist Monster attempting to attack them faces lethal consequences. If you enjoy building in Save The World, B.A.S.E Kyle is undoubtedly one of the best heroes in Fortnite for you.

Best Ninja Hero: Paleo Luna

Paleo Luna - Best Ninja Hero in Fortnite: Save the World

The next hero in our guide is Paleo Luna. If you enjoy dealing massive melee damage and having a high health pool, then you’ll love this Ninja. Much like the other heroes mentioned in this guide, Paleo Luna has made it to the list because of her outstanding commander perk, Saurian Claws, which adds a percentage of her current health to melee damage. With a perk like that, you might have some déjà vu from earlier in this guide when we talked about Sledgehammer. These two builds share some similarities, but instead of focusing on ranged damage, we’ll be enhancing our melee prowess.

The loadout perks are as follows:

  • Saurian Focus: While shield is depleted, regenerate four energy per second
  • Saurian Hide: While shield is depleted, increase armor by 33%
  • Anatomy Lesson: Increase critical rating of swords, scythes, and axes by 15
  • Assassination: dealing melee weapon damage grants one stack of Assassination (up to five stacks). Assassination lasts 5s and increases melee weapon damage by 4.5%
  • Wind And Storm: Stacks of Assassination provide 3% movement speed in addition to bonus damage
  • Blast From The Past [Team Perk]: Removes all shields and increases max health by 200%

Looking at the perk loadout, you can probably see why I said this build is similar to Sledgehammer’s. We strip away shields using Blast From The Past but boost Luna’s armor, health, and energy regeneration as a result. We also increase our crit and melee damage to provide a little more punch to our attacks.

The only perk I’d say could be swapped out is Wind and Storm. While the bonus to movement speed and damage is nice and works well with our Assassination perk, there are better options depending on how you play. For the most part, I use that perk slot to switch in different perks depending on the missions I’m running. Regardless, when it comes to the best heroes in Fortnite: Save the World, Paleo Luna is definitely among them.

Best Outlander Hero: Archaeolo-Jess

Archaeolo-Jess - Best Outlander Hero in Fortnite: Save the World

Capping off this guide is Archaeolo-Jess. If you’re looking for the best Outlander to farm resources, then you can’t go wrong with her. This is due to her amazing commander perk, Strike Cost, which increases the efficiency of your Anti-Material Charge heavy attack by 128%.

For those who don’t know, the heavy attack can be used to punch your way through resources, instantly destroying them without the need to hack away at them with your pickaxe. Normally, this would take about half your energy bar, meaning you’d only have one or two in the tank before you needed to wait. With Archaeolo-Jess, however, you get four or five of these punches. I don’t need to tell you how amazing that is for farming.

Unlike the other builds, where I focused on damage or structure tankiness, Archaeolo-Jess is going to be somewhat of a hybrid build. We want her to be excellent at farming but also be able to defend herself from any Husks or Mist Monsters that get in our way.

The loadout perks are as follows:

  • Saurian Focus: While shield is depleted, regenerate four energy per second
  • Saurian Might: Every 1s, adds 3% of current health to damage of next ranged weapon hit
  • Goin’ Coconuts: 20% chance to find Coconuts in containers. Coconuts restore health instantly and restores additional health over time. Increases damage by 16% while under the effects of a Coconut
  • Work, Work: Increases harvesting tool damage by 24%
  • Assault Damage: Increases assault damage by 17%
  • Blast From The Past [Team Perk]: Removes all shields and increases max health by 200%

And that’s the build for Archaeolo-Jess. I tried to buff her farming ability while also giving her some tools to fight and survive if needed. Perks like Goin’ Coconuts work well with Outlanders because they are so farming and looting-centric. This means that you will likely always have a steady supply of coconuts for healing.

We go back to our trusty Saurian perk combos to help us regenerate energy quickly while also buffing our health and damage. This will help us keep our heavy attack up and deal a little damage at the same time.

Our last two perks, Work, Work, and Assault Damage, can be swapped out as necessary. I like putting Work, Work for the few times I have to actually use my pickaxe and Assault damage since I mainly use assault weapons. But these two perks are not exactly necessary and can be swapped out to better fit your playstyle. Either way, Archaeolo-Jess is one of the best heroes in Fortnite: Save the World when it comes to farming.
