New mechanics are, without a doubt, the most difficult thing about Monster Hunter games. Capcom tries to help players out with little tutorials, but they’re not always helpful when it comes to explaining the nuances of new systems. It’s what makes Monster Hunter so notoriously complicated — if you want to experience the game as it’s meant to be played, you have to be prepared to figure most of it out on your own.

Imagine my delight, then, when Monster Hunter Rise turned the Canteen into a cute little dango café with an organized menu reminiscent of my local boba tea joint. The flavors were easy to pick, the skills were easy to understand, and the song was easy to get stuck in my head. It was everything I dreamed it would be, and a definite step up from the meal systems of earlier titles.

To help you get a full understanding of this excellent new system and everything it has to offer, we’ve put together a comprehensive guide on Monster Hunter Rise’s bunny dango.

Let’s get started!

Monster Hunter Rise Dango Guide

Yomogi
Yomogi the Chef

We’ll start with a quick crash course on dango. Monster Hunter Rise revamped the franchise and its approach to meals, introducing a cleaner UI and much more intuitive meal effects. Gone are the days of eating just to extend your health and stamina bars — it’s much easier to equip yourself with special skills suited to all of your favorite hunts.

What Is Bunny Dango?

Bunny dango is a pre-hunt snack that gives hunters special stat boosts going into their hunts. Eating dango (regardless of the flavors you choose) will grant you extra health and stamina, with the bonuses getting bigger as you progress in the game.

You can create custom dango combinations with a variety of flavors, each offering special effects in addition to the standard health/stamina boost. Some flavors can be upgraded once you reach High Rank, giving you a more powerful version of the initial effect. We’ve included a complete list of all the dango flavors and their effects below, so read on for more info!

How To Eat Bunny Dango

You can eat bunny dango in Kamura Village’s tea shop, or in the Gathering Hub canteen. There’s no mechanical difference between the two — they offer the same flavors and will list the same Daily Specials, and aren’t restricted to single or multiplayer mode. The only difference is that you get different cutscenes when ordering depending on which eatery you’re patronizing.

If you forget to grab a snack before heading off, don’t worry! You can also run to the tent in any of the main camps or subcamps and select “Eat a Meal” to get a belated boost. This lets you order from the bunny dango menu or choose from any of your pre-saved combinations, though you won’t be able to access the Daily Specials or reactivate any one-time effects.

Bunny Dango Tips and Tricks

The following tips will help you make the most of the best dango in Monster Hunter Rise, ensuring you always get the best deal on the best meal!

Check the Daily Special

Daily Special
The Daily Special is always listed first on the menu, and is marked with a stamp

Even if you have a perfect go-to dango combination, be sure to check what’s on the menu. Every time you order from the tea shop or canteen, there will be one of six special items in addition to the usual flavors. These dango offer extra special rewards and cycle out every quest, so be sure to check what’s available to avoid missing out on some helpful boosts!

Complete Dango Quests to Unlock New Flavors

Every so often, you’ll get a special request from Yomogi the Chef asking you to collect dango ingredients. These requests range from Village Quests that have you running around and picking up dropped spices to special sub-quests that require you to scare Gargwa and deliver their eggs to the main camp.

Once you’ve completed these requests, Yomogi will update the dango menu with a brand new flavor with its own unique bonus effect.

Register Your Favorite Combos

It’s super easy to register your favorite dango combinations — when you put together a set you like, simply select “Register to Set” to save the combo. Next time you eat, you’ll be able to quickly order your saved sets by selecting “Order the Usual” and choosing the set of your choice.

You can even name your sets for easy reference. If you have a certain combination you like to use against the Rakna Kadaki, saving it as something other than “Dango Set 03” can be a helpful way to quickly pick it out of the list.

Register and name your favorite combos for future reference

Just remember that you can’t save specific Daily Specials. Saving the Berry Safe dango to a set isn’t a sneaky way to get Dango Insurance every meal — the game simply replaces it with whatever Daily Special is currently on the menu.

(I’m also fairly certain this prevents you from saving upgraded High Rank dango in multiplayer if you only have the Low Rank version unlocked. My hunting partner and I leveled up at the same rate, so I don’t know this for sure — drop us a comment if you have any insight here!)

Use Dango Tickets

Finally, don’t forget to use your dango tickets when ordering! These tickets are essentially super-powerful coupons that not only let you eat for free, but also add a 40% boost to the Activation Rate of your chosen dango flavors. If you’re eating for a special skill that only has a 60% chance of activation, using a dango ticket is a great way to guarantee you’ll get the boost.

You can earn more dango tickets by ordering Motley Mixes from the tea shop and canteen. Yomogi gives you one ticket for every two items you cook up, so it’s a great way to benefit from all the extra materials you have lying around.

If you don’t want to use up all your crafting items, however, you can always run down to the Argosy and trade with Rondine for raw meat. Cooking up the meat will earn you tickets from Yomogi, so it’s a great way to stock up on tickets without investing too much on gathering materials.

Monster Hunter Rise Dango List

With these tips in mind, let’s get to the various dango flavors! Remember that regardless of the flavors you choose, eating before a hunt will increase your max health and stamina.

Also keep in mind that some dango flavors can be upgraded to give you additional and/or more potent effects. We’ve included both the regular and upgraded flavors on this list for easier reference:

Monster Hunter Rise Best Dango Combinations

Now that we’ve covered all the flavors, let’s take a look at some of the best dango meal combos! These are all specific combinations guaranteed to help you out on your hunts.

MHR Best All-Around Dango Set

This combination is designed to give you an all-around boost to your stats that can be helpful regardless of your progress in the game, the weapon you’re using, or whether you’re playing solo or multiplayer.

All-Around
Best All-Around Dango Set
  • Mint-iature (Dango Booster): temporarily increases attack and defense after consumption, once
  • Bestnut/Super Bestnut (Dango Defender): decreases damage taken
  • Medicinal/Analeptic (Dango Medic): increases health recovery from items

As shown in the above photo, both “Bestnut” and “Medicinal” can be upgraded to strengthen their effects. You won’t get any additional skills out of the mix, but you’ll take a little less damage and get a little more healing once you’ve updated the flavors in your menu. Definitely among the best dango in Monster Hunter Rise.

MHR Best Gathering Dango Set

This combination is all about increasing your gathering returns. If you’re heading out on an expedition or just looking to pick up a few more items on your quest, this can be an easy way to get more materials.

Gathering
Best Gathering Dango Set
  • Leg Day (Dango Wall Runner): decreases stamina depletion while wall running
  • Bee-utiful (Dango Gatherer): increases quantity of honey obtained while gathering
  • Call-of-the-Wild (Dango Summoner): makes rare Crafty Creatures more likely to appear

The gatherer and summoner skills are both pretty self-explanatory — you can gather more honey and increase your chances of stumbling across creatures like rock lizards while you’re out and about. “Leg Day” is here mostly to make running around a little easier on you.

If you’re looking to gather more monster parts specifically, I recommend keeping an eye out for “Rosy”  or the upgraded “Triple Rose” in the Daily Specials. When it’s available, you can swap it out for any of the other flavors to increase your chances of extra carves.

MHR Best Bow Dango Set

Moving on to more weapon-specific combinations, let’s take a look at the Bow. I’ve been playing a lot more of the Bow in Rise, and this combo quickly became my personal pick for the best dango in Monster Hunter Rise.

Bow
Best Bow Dango Set
  • Centering (Dango Marksman): increases the power of shots and arrows
  • Invigorating (Dango Fighter): reduces stamina depletion when evading, blocking, or doing certain other actions
  • Spud-luck (Dango Weakener): large monsters encountered on quests have an increased chance of being weaker than normal

There’s not much else to be said about this set, except that it only becomes an option once you’ve hit ★5 Quests in both Kamura Village and the Gathering Hub. Until then, you’re probably better off going with the all-around set or working off a different custom combination.

MHR Best KO Dango Set

This combination is best for Hammers and Hunting Horns, both of which have incredible knockout power that can stun monsters and give you valuable openings to deal tons of damage.

KO
Best KO Dango Set
  • Secretheart (Dango Specialist): increases the potency of abnormal status attacks
  • Dizzybloom (Dango Slugger): makes it easier to stun monsters
  • Spud-luck (Dango Weakener): large monsters encountered on quests have an increased chance of being weaker than normal

“Secretheart” is helpful for dealing any abnormal status damage. Any attacks you perform that fill the monster’s stun meter will become stronger, helping you stun your target faster. This pairs well with “Dizzybloom,” which makes it easier to stun monsters as a whole.

MHR Best Artillery Dango Set

This combination is all about the Bowguns. It applies to both Light and Heavy Bowguns, as it’s designed to boost the power of your shots. This is a good one to take into the field with your favorite decked-out Bowgun and a thirst for blood.

Artillery
Best Artillery Dango Set
  • Fruitflash (Dango Bombardier): increases damage of Sticky Ammo and gunlance shells
  • Beansplosion (Dango Temper): increases ammo damage, but also increases deviation
  • Centering (Dango Marksman): increases the power of shots and arrows

All of these flavors are designed to help you deal the most damage possible. Note that “Fruitflash” applies specifically to Sticky Ammo, so feel free to swap that one out for another skill if Sticky isn’t your ammo type of choice.
