In Red Dead Online, hunting is one of the most common activities in the game. Hunting can give players crafting materials that can be used to make consumables or sold for profit. And it can allow traders to re-stock their camp with quality animal parts. One of the best animals to hunt is none other than cougars. These lucrative but deadly creatures can be killed and sold for a very high price and then can provide a lot of animal parts for your trading business. But that begs the question, where are the best places to find cougars in RDR2 Online? We’ll be telling you exactly that and much, much more.
So what are we waiting for? Let’s jump right into the guide!
Common Locations for Cougars in Red Dead Online
Cougars are among the rarest animals in Red Dead Online. They always spawn individually, and never in packs/groups. Additionally, there are only a select few locations on the map that they spawn. One such location is to the northeast of New Hanover (see image above), near the town of Annesberg in the forested areas. There are some train tracks that you can follow north for a chance at finding one.
Another great place for finding cougars is in the state of West Elizabeth. More specifically, in the Great Plains region. You can fast-travel to the town of Blackwater and then head west to find one of several different spawn locations. One location is to the north of Beecher’s Hope (this is a small, abandoned homestead with a simple shack in the center and a fence around the property). There’s also a spawn location to the south (see image above).
Tips & Tricks for Hunting Cougars
Even if you know the best places to find cougars on Red Dead Online’s map, you’ll be as good as dead when you find one. If you aren’t prepared, that is. So here are some tips and tricks for hunting cougars and coming out of the encounter alive.
- Tip #1: Use rifles or a bow to hunt cougars. If you want to get a perfect shot, you are going to need to use a certain caliber of weapon to do it properly. Any rifle in the game will do fine. You can also use a bow or an improved bow with Improved Arrows.
- Tip #2: Get off your horse when approaching cougars. Cougars are predatory animals, and these types of creatures will scare your horse. If your horse gets scared, they’ll buck you off and you’ll be staggered on the ground for a moment, leaving you vulnerable to getting eaten alive.
- Tip #3: Purchase a Hunting Wagon to safely store your cougar carcass. When you kill a cougar, it’s a good idea to sell it or store it as soon as possible. It’s a valuable animal, and other players might be looking to take it from you. If you’ve purchased the Hunting Wagon, you can spawn it and then safely store the cougar inside it for later use.
