Best Legendary Bounty in RDR2 Online, Ranked

For May 2023, there is a double money bonus for Legendary Bounty missions and a discount for the Prestigious Bounty Hunter license.

The world of Red Dead Online is both chaotic and untamed, with the American Southwest serving as a wild frontier full of crooks and criminals. Lawmen often struggle to keep things under control, but that’s made even harder by the presence of 13 particularly dangerous criminals. These outlaws have warranted legendary status and bounties that only the most daring bounty hunters in RDR2 Online are willing to pursue.

In this article, we will rank each of these outlaws and discuss the merits and drawbacks of their missions. We’ll also highlight which legendary bounties offer the biggest payout, so you know where to focus your efforts.

Every Legendary Bounty in RDR2 Online, Ranked Worst to Best

Before we jump into this article and rank every legendary bounty in RDR2 Online, you should be aware of our ranking criteria. We’ll be primarily basing our picks off how fun and replayable the mission is.

But for those of you interested solely in which legendary bounty pays the most, know that the highest base reward is $150 (without factoring in any bonus objectives). There’s multiple bounties worth $150, but we’ll make a note of which one is the fastest to complete down below.

13/13

Philip Carlier

Legendary Bounty Payout: $125

Let’s start with Philip Carlier, a murderer on the run from the law who’s currently hiding in the swamps near Saint Denis, where he lives with the Night Folk. He was once a proud businessman who killed one of his colleagues when they caught him embezzling funds.

Now, it’s up to us to hunt him down and bring him to justice. This mission takes place in the heart of the Lagras wetlands during the dead of night. While on the mission, Carlier will drug you, causing you to experience several hallucinations that you need to fight off. After the effects wear off, you must track him down and capture him. He could be hiding in various locations.

Once you’ve searched every possible place (and fended off any Night Folk he throws your way), you can finally kill or capture him and turn him in to the nearby police department. The mission is pretty cool the first time you do it, but it quickly becomes annoying and slow on replays, especially when dealing with the hallucinations.

12/13

Cecil C. Tucker

Legendary Bounty Payout: $100

Our next entry is Cecil C. Tucker, a notorious arsonist who is responsible for the murder of several victims during his arsonist spree. Tucker has recently joined the Lemoyne Raiders, so players will have to fight through them in order to reach him. Although they are not too difficult to take out, players will have to be cautious of Tucker himself, who is armed with sticks of dynamite that can easily kill you if you’re not careful.

This is a pretty straightforward mission that doesn’t get too creative, but it’s still an enjoyable one to do. However, I wouldn’t consider putting it high up on this list. Nonetheless, it was pretty cool to attack Fort Brennand in order to get to him.

11/13

Etta Doyle (Best Payout)

Etta Doyle - the best and fastest legendary bounty for money.

Legendary Bounty Payout: $150

If you’re solely interested in the payout, this is the fastest and best legendary bounty to farm in RDR2 Online.

Let’s move on to the next legendary bounty on our list: Etta Doyle, the ruthless leader of an all-women outlaw gang. Having successfully pulled off several train and stagecoach robberies, she has caught the attention of the law, and a bounty has been put on her head.

This mission will spawn you in the city of Saint Denis, inside a freight yard where you’ll need to hide behind cover until she spawns. After she arrives, you’ll need to identify which of the four targets is her before capturing or killing her. However, be quick as she can be difficult to capture once she mounts her horse and rides away.

I was undecided about where to rank this mission. Although it’s the easiest and quickest to complete, it can also be quite repetitive. It would have been more interesting if she could spawn in different locations instead of the same one every time. However, the idea of identifying the target is a cool touch.

10/13

Barbarella Alcazar

Legendary Bounty Payout: $100

Next on the list is the notorious highway robber, Barbarella Alcazar, who is currently operating in the state of New Austin with her tough gang of Del Lobos. While capturing her alive is a daunting task, the reward is definitely worth it.

The mission is fairly simple and direct – head to her hideout in the deserts of New Austin, take out her gang, and capture her before she can escape. After the capture, you will receive a GPS location where you can turn her in for the reward.

Although the mission is enjoyable, it is basic and straightforward – a classic “Go to X location, capture enemy, go to Y location” type of mission. However, I appreciate the fact that you can capture secondary targets for extra pay. Additionally, the mission has a bit of replayability as she can spawn in one of three different locations.

9/13

Yukon Nik Borodin

Legendary Bounty Payout: $125

Up next, let’s talk about Yukon Nik Borodin, a Russian-born man wanted by the law for murder. He works alongside several outlaws who fiercely protect him, but they are not the worst thing you’ll have to worry about in this mission.

To start this bounty, you will need to travel to Fort Riggs. There, you will have to take out all of the outlaws guarding Borodin. Only after this is done will he emerge, holding a lawman at gunpoint. This forces you to aim carefully when targeting Borodin. After the marshal is either dead or freed, you can take Borodin to a nearby location to be turned in.

I think this is a cool mission, and having to avoid shooting the marshal adds a touch of uniqueness to this bounty. One thing that I find really interesting is the fact that there are several grizzly bears locked in nearby cages at his camp. You can shoot these cages to free the bears, who will be friendly to you but will viciously maul the nearby outlaws.

8/13

Virgil “The Shepherd” Edwards

Legendary Bounty Payout: $150

Next on the ranking, we have Virgil Edwards, also known as “The Shepherd” by his followers. He leads a cult that plans to commit mass murder against the citizens of the United States.

This bounty mission is quite interesting. It begins with you searching for information around the map about where The Shepherd is hiding. Once you discover his location, the second phase of the mission begins. The Shepherd will reveal himself, wearing a heavy suit of armor that makes killing him much more difficult but not impossible.

I love the second phase of this mission. It’s a pretty cool fight and feels like the only proper boss fight in RDR2 Online. It’s a memorable encounter for an equally memorable character. The only downside of this mission is that you need the prestigious license upgrade to access it.

7/13

Tobin Winfield

Legendary Bounty Payout: $150

Our next pick is Tobin Winfield, a former corrupt mayor who is on the run from the state for corruption charges. Surprisingly, he will surrender himself to you willingly upon finding him, which is rather unique.

The mission deviates even further from the usual, as your job is to protect him from the local criminals while he leads you to where he hid some legal documents he stole. Once you retrieve them, you can take him to a nearby drop-off location.

I love how you don’t need to capture the target violently in this mission, and it feels like something you’d find in the single-player mode. It’s one of my personal favorite missions, even though some players may find it boring.

6/13

The Wolf Man

The Wolf Man

Legendary Bounty Payout: $100

Next on our list is The Wolf Man, a bounty target who has chosen to live away from civilization in the mountainous regions of Ambarino. He has been harassing the people living in the region using a group of wolves that he has managed to tame.

Upon starting this mission, you’ll find yourself in the snowy mountains and will have to fight through his pack of wolves to get to him. Once you do, he will be attacked by a bear that you’ll have to quickly take down before it kills The Wolf Man.

I really like that we get to fight wolves and a bear during this mission. Considering that the game is set in the Wild West, Rockstar is limited in terms of enemy variety when it comes to human enemies. So, killing predatory animals is a great way to spice things up.

5/13

Sergio Vincenza

Sergio Vincenza

Legendary Bounty Payout: $125

Moving on to our next spot on the list, we have Sergio Vincenza, a former marksman who served in the US Army. Despite being a soldier, he began questioning his loyalties after reading anarchist principles and eventually formed his own group of revolutionaries to fight against the government.

To complete this mission, you’ll need to travel to Vincenza’s location and engage in a battle against him and his allies. As a skilled marksman, he uses his long-range rifles to his advantage and takes shots at you from the safety of his tower.

What I find particularly appealing about Sergio Vincenza is that he’s not just another outlaw, but an anarchist who genuinely believes in his cause. This makes the encounter with him more memorable and engaging.

4/13

Carmela “La Muneca” Montez

Carmela "La Muneca" Montez - Best Legendary Bounty in RDR2 Online
Image: Rockstar Games via HGG / Koby Gibson Ross

Legendary Bounty Payout: $150

For the next entry on this list, we have Carmela “La Muneca” Montez! Similar to Barbarella Alcazar, she is a member of the Del Lobos gang and the leader of her own crew. The United States has warrants out for her arrest on multiple counts of murder, as well as dozens of armed robberies.

Players will start this mission in West Elizabeth. During the mission, Montez will utilize a heavily armored and modified wagon equipped with Gatling guns. If the player is detected, she will flee in this vehicle, so it’s advisable to complete the mission stealthily if possible.

I appreciate that this mission offers a stealth option, even though stealth isn’t the game’s strong suit. The armored wagon is a clever addition. Overall, this is a fun mission that I have little to complain about, except for the fact that the Prestigious Bounty Hunter’s license is required to undertake it.

3/13

Owlhoot Family

Owlhoot Family - Best Legendary Bounty in RDR2 Online

Legendary Bounty Payout: $125

For our next pick on this list, let’s take a moment to talk about the Owlhoot Family. This is a gang of cruel and vindictive criminals wanted by the Law for various crimes, from murder to robbery and animal cruelty. You are tasked with taking out the gang’s leadership and bringing them to justice.

To complete this mission efficiently, you’ll need several players helping you or a bounty wagon to haul multiple targets. This is because you’ll need to kill or capture four separate outlaws scattered around the local area. When you start the mission, go to any of the four areas and capture a bounty before moving on to the next one.

This bounty mission feels pretty unique. I like that there are four different targets to collect, whereas in most missions there is only one. This helps set it apart from the rest and also gives players a good reason to buy the bounty wagon. What’s cool is that each member is in the middle of doing something different when you first find them, which shows nice attention to detail. Just note that you need a prestigious license for this mission.

2/13

Gene “Beau” Finley

Gene "Beau" Finley - Best Legendary Bounty in RDR2 Online
Image: Rockstar Games via HGG / Koby Gibson Ross

Legendary Bounty Payout: $125

And for our next pick, we have Gene “Beau” Finley. He is a young bank robber who is wanted by the State of Lemoyne. The man was not always an outlaw; he had a privileged life, growing up in a wealthy family. But due to his special interest in outlaws, he used his money to create his own gang of criminals.

Beau is currently situated in the state of Lemoyne, inside an old mansion in a swamp. His gang will be scattered around the mansion, and you’ll need to sneak past or fight through all of them to get to Beau. After capturing or killing him, put him on your horse and make a quick escape before his men kill you in retaliation.

You need to purchase a Prestigious Bounty Hunter License to start this mission. But if you’re okay with paying the price, you’ll find that this is a fun bounty worth doing. I loved going back to the mansion after completing the story. And I thought it was cool that there were NPCs in Beau’s camp whom you could find and free.

1/13

Red Ben Clempson

Red Ben Clempson - Best Legendary Bounty in RDR2 Online
Image: Rockstar Games via HGG / Koby Gibson Ross

Legendary Bounty Payout: $150

For final and best legendary bounty, let’s talk about Red Ben Clempson. He is a well-dressed man who owns and operates his own gang of outlaws in New Austin. There’s word that he plans to rob a train in the area. Luckily for you, an ex-crew mate of his is willing to give you information on where to go.

This mission involves sabotaging a train robbery carried out by Clempson and his men. After finding the location of the train, the robbery will begin. Players must track down Clempson while fending off all of his men. After arriving at his location, you must either kill or capture him. Then head up to the engine room, stop the train, and escape to the drop-off point.

I like the idea of this being a “reverse-train robbery.” Instead of robbing a train, we’re preventing it from being robbed. The mission feels pretty action-packed and intense, and I enjoy having to move up through a train while fighting off bands of outlaws. It’s a fun mission that is definitely worth replaying.
