Legendary items are some of Diablo 4’s most sought-after equipment, and for a good reason. These pieces of gear tend to be the most powerful in the game with special abilities that can prove to be incredibly useful for your character’s build. As such, players will want to know the best way to farm for these hard to find pieces of loot. That’s why this guide will break down the best way to farm for legendaries in Diablo 4, including which Diablo 4 dungeons are best for farming legendaries.
Diablo 4: The Best Ways to Farm Legendaries
In this guide, we’ll cover everything you need to know about farming for legendaries. We’ll discuss World Tiers, Elites and Bosses, Helltides, and last but not least the Diablo 4 Nightmare Dungeons that are best for farming legendaries.
World Tiers
The first thing you’ll need to take into consideration when planning to farm for legendaries in Diablo 4 is which World Tier you are playing on. World Tiers represent the game’s difficulty level, with only World Tier 1: Adventurer and World Tier 2: Veteran available prior to beating the main campaign. However, treasure hunters will want to advance to higher World Tiers as soon as possible because higher World Tiers offer higher chances for legendaries to drop. World Tier 3: Nightmare and World 4: Torment give the best odds for legendaries to drop, and give players access to new ways of acquiring these rare items. To advance to a higher World Tier, players will need to complete each tier’s associated Capstone Dungeon.
Elites and Bosses
One of the most reliable and consistent ways of getting legendaries to drop is by defeating tough enemies like Elites and Bosses. Most Story Bosses will drop legendaries, but can only be fought once. On the other hand, World Bosses can be fought multiple times, but players are limited to fighting them at specific spawn times.
Defeating Elites and Dungeon Bosses are not guaranteed to drop legendaries, but have the best odds out of the easily farmable enemies. Most dungeons will spawn Elites and almost all have a Dungeon Boss, meaning running through specific dungeons can be a lucrative way of farming legendaries. Doing so on higher World Tiers is the optimal strategy, since the odds of these enemies dropping a legendary item when defeated is even higher.
Helltides
For players on World Tier 3 and above, Helltides are a fantastic way to farm for legendaries. These events occur periodically for the various regions of Diablo 4’s world and involve a higher volume of tougher enemies for players to slay. However, defeating enemies earns players aberrant cinders which can be exchanged at Helltide Chests for valuable loot. Not only do enemies have a higher chance of dropping legendaries due to the high number of Elites that spawn during Helltides, but Helltide Chests are also more likely to drop these rare items as well.
Players will need anywhere from 75 to 250 aberrant cinders to open a Helltide Chest, so taking some time to farm the enemies that spawn during these events is a must. Be careful, though, as any unspent cinders will disappear after the Helltide ends. Helltide enemies are also several levels above the player’s level, so it can be quite the risk to venture into these events, but the reward can be well worth it.
Best Nightmare Dungeons for Farming Legendaries
One of the best ways to farm for legendaries in Diablo 4 is to repeatedly clear Nightmare Dungeons. These dungeons only become available once the player hits World Tier 3, and they need to be activated using Nightmare Sigils. Once activated, a normal dungeon will transform into the far more difficult Nightmare Dungeon, but offer players better rewards as a result. Most Nightmare Dungeons contain more Elites than their typical counterparts, meaning they make for great legendary farming locations.
Nightmare Dungeons can also be leveled up using Sigils of higher tiers, and as expected, higher tiers offer better rewards. While there are several dungeons that have the potential to be turned into a Nightmare Dungeon, these are the best Diablo 4 dungeons for farming legendaries when they are activated as Nightmare Dungeons.
Maulwood – Fractured Peaks
The Maulwood dungeon is a Sacred and an Ancestral Nightmare Dungeon in Diablo 4, meaning it is accessible as a Nightmare Dungeon on both World Tier 3 and World Tier 4. The dungeon itself is located just to the east of Margrave in the Fractured Peaks region. What makes this a great dungeon for farming legendaries is the high number of Elite enemies found within. One of the dungeon’s objectives is to slay the bandit sentries, which means there are three guaranteed Elites who have an increased chance of dropping legendary gear. While they can be a bit tricky depending on the tier of the Nightmare Dungeon, these Elites are worth farming for their high chance to drop legendaries.
Aldurwood – Scosglen
The Aldurwood dungeon is another Sacred and Ancestral Nightmare Dungeon that is prime for farming legendaries in Diablo 4. You can find the dungeon just to the north of Tirmair in the Scosglen region. Like the Maulwood dungeon, this one is also home to many Elites who have a higher chance of dropping rare loot. The dungeon’s objectives include slaying the Aldurkin and defeating the Den Mother, all of which are powerful enemies that can have the potential to drop legendaries. These enemies are a guaranteed spawn each time you run the dungeon. The dungeon is also fairly short, meaning it can easily be run over and over again to farm for legendaries.
Blind Burrows – Hawezar
Hawezar may be a tough region to explore, but the Blind Burrows dungeon is excellent for farming legendaries. As a Nightmare Dungeon, it can be both Sacred and Ancestral on World Tiers 3 and 4 respectively. The Blind Burrows can be found just to the east of Zarbinzet in the Hawezar region. Like the best Diablo 4 dungeons to farm for legendaries, the Blind Burrows dungeon also has many Elite enemies for players to slay, including three infested villagers as part of the dungeon’s objective. The layout of the dungeon is also fairly open and relatively short, making it possible to make short work of before attempting another farming run. The dungeon’s Broodgaurd boss is also easier than most dungeon bosses for being in such a treacherous location like Hawezar, meaning players shouldn’t have too much to worry about when tackling the Blind Burrows.
Abandoned Mineworks – Kehjistan
There aren’t many good farming options for dungeons in the Kehjistan region. However, the Abandoned Mineworks dungeon is a solid choice thanks to its lack of a main boss and relatively straightforward layout. It can be found to the southwest of Tarsarak in the Kehjistan region. Despite not having a main boss to farm for legendaries, players will have to defeat three elite enemies to complete the dungeon objective. Another downside of this dungeon is that it can only appear as an Ancestral Nightmare Dungeon, meaning it is not accessible as a Nightmare Dungeon except for on World Tier 4. Even with this limitation, it is a good spot for those playing on World Tier 4 to farm for legendaries due to how quickly the dungeon can be completed.
Champion’s Demise – Dry Steppes
While overall a great dungeon for farming legendaries in Diablo 4, Champion’s Demise does require a bit of back-tracking in order to complete. Champion’s Demise is only a Nightmare Dungeon on World Tier 4 and it can be found to the northeast of Jirandi in the Dry Steppes region of Diablo 4’s map. This dungeon has three objectives, two of which will require players to defeat Elite enemies. This gives players a greater chance for finding legendary drops, but also poses the dangers associated with tackling a tough World Tier 4 dungeon. As such, players should come prepared since Champion’s Demise can take a bit longer to complete than other dungeons. However, its potential for awesome legendary loot drops as rewards is well worth it.
