Octopath Traveler 2: Best Party Setups, Ranked

Let’s jump right into our list of the best party compositions in Octopath Traveler 2, ranked from solid to stand-out!

5/5

Traditional Party

This party takes the classic RPG party setup and incorporates Octopath Traveler 2’s various mechanics to create a solid early-to-mid game party. This party includes the standard Warrior, Thief, Mage, and Cleric trope of traditional fantasy RPGS. By sticking with these traditional party archetypes, you won’t need to worry about any special gimmicks. However, this party build may become outclassed later in the game.

Hikari

Hikari fills the role of the traditional Warrior in this party build. He focuses on dealing high physical damage while also acting as a tank for the rest of the party thanks to skills like Incite and Stout Wall. Thief works best for a secondary job, as it can give Hikari further support options like Armor Corrosive and Shackle Foe.

Throné

Throné fills the role of the Thief archetype in this party. Her speed puts her in a fantastic position to deal heavy damage with moves like Surprise Attack. She can also deal damage to multiple enemies with her Divine Skills. With the Dancer secondary Job, Throné can also act as another support character, giving her a versatile role in this party.

Osvald

Osvald fits as the traditional Mage archetype in this setup. His skills as a Scholar allow him to use multi-target elemental magic attacks which can be great for wiping out groups of enemies. Giving him the secondary job of Merchant can help keep his SP topped off with the Rest skill, and the Boost-Start Support Skill is great for giving him more BP at the start of battle to help finish off foes quickly.

Temenos

Temenos acts as the healer of the group, fulfilling the typical Cleric archetype. His primary role is to heal the party with his skill Heal Wounds. Giving him the secondary job of Apothecary is ideal, since it will give him access to other healing methods, as well as buffs and debuffs for support.

Physical Buff

This party setup for Octopath Traveler 2 focuses on utilizing the power of strong physical attackers by buffing their offensive with supporting party members. Since the focus of this build isn’t on dealing magic damage, it can end up being situational. However, it is quite powerful in those specific situations.

Hikari

One of the two primary offensive characters in this party set up, Hikari should utilize his Latent Power, Shadow’s Hold, to deal incredible amounts of damage. This Latent Power lets Hikari utilize one of three powerful physical attacks whenever the Latent Power gauge is full. As such, he will need his secondary job to be a Merchant in order to access the skill Full Power.

Ochette

Ochette plays largely the same role as Hikari in this set up. Her Latent Power, Animal Instincts, similarly offers the choice between three powerful skills. She will also need to have Merchant as her secondary job as a result.

Throné

Throné primarily acts as a supporter in this party. Her Thief abilities that focus on weakening enemies are invaluable to getting the most damage out of the heavy hitters. She can also flex into an additional offensive role with the Warrior secondary job or double down on support with the Dancer secondary job.

Temenos

Like Throné, Temenos also plays support in this party setup. He will be the main healer, combining the abilities of the Cleric with the secondary job of Apothecary for full healing coverage.

Extra Help

This build takes advantage of several characters’ ability to recruit followers that can be summoned in battle. Doing so with a party of all four can end up netting players a total of eight potential allies at once! Depending on which NPCs you recruit for battle, your party’s offensive capabilities can greatly expand with this Octopath Traveler 2 party setup.

Partitio

Paritio’s Hire Path Action allows him to pay to recruit an NPC that can be summoned in battle. Give him the Hunter secondary job to round out his offensive capabilities and summon your hired hand when possible.

Ochette

Ochette has two ways to recruit new companions. She can Capture monsters and use her Befriend Path Action on NPCs.  With the combination of these skills, her secondary job is fairly flexible.

Temenos

Temenos can use his Guide Path Action to acquire a follower. Give him the Apothecary secondary job to double up on his healing abilities.

Agnea

Agnea has the Allure Path Action, which allows her to recruit an NPC to the party. She works best in a support role with the Scholar secondary job for elemental coverage.

Elemental Buff

In Octopath Traveler 2, the best party builds are the ones that synergize well both in and out of battle. While the primary focus of this build is to buff magic users, it also has the benefit of access to every type of Path Action. Not only does this build create a well rounded offensive team, but it will allow you to perform any necessary path action at any given time.

Osvald

As the Scholar, Osvald will be the primary magic user in this build. Aside from that, his Path Actions Scrutinize and Mug give him the ability to gain information from NPCs during the day, and steal items from them by night.

Throné

Throné takes on mainly a support role in this build, using her Thief abilities like Armor Corrosive and Shackle Foe to debuff enemies. Giving her Dancer as her secondary job can double her support capabilities and allow her to buff the magic users. Her Path Actions Steal and Ambush allow her to steal items from NPCs by day and knock them out at night.

Temenos

Temenos acts as a healer and secondary magic user with the Scholar as his secondary job. His Path Actions Guide and Coerce allow him to recruit a follower by day and interrogate NPCs for information at night.

Ochette

While typically a physical attacker, Ochette can also deal magic damage depending on the monsters she’s captured. She also makes for another great support character with the Dancer or Thief secondary jobs. Her Path Actions Provoke and Befriend allow her to render NPCs unconscious during the day, and gain a follower by night.

Well-Rounded

This setup in Octopath Traveler 2 makes the best party build by taking advantage of the strengths and synergy of its members. It combines the best physical attackers with the ideal support characters and even includes characters who can recruit NPCs or monsters to fight alongside the party. With all these options available, this party becomes a well-rounded powerhouse to be reckoned with.

Hikari

Hikari once again acts as the primary physical attacker in this setup. However, he can also act as a tank for the team, with his skill Incite drawing enemy attacks away from allies. Combine this with his Stout Wall skill to increase Hikari’s defense, and he can reliably take hits and dish out damage.

Partitio

Partitio has to play a jack-of-all-trades role in this setup. His Merchant abilities allow him to donate BP to other party members, but he needs the secondary job of Scholar to give the party a wide range of coverage using elemental spells.

Castti

Castti will act as the healer of the party and should have the Cleric secondary job. However, her skills as an Apothecary can also help her hold her own on offense as well. Plus, she can provide debilitating status conditions to enemies.

Ochette

Ochette fills the final spot on this well-rounded roster. She acts as primarily a physical attacker, but has the awesome benefit of being able to summon her captured monsters for additional offensive options. Giving her the secondary job of Thief can help round out her abilities and give her support options as well.
