Zoom In: A Closer Look at the 20 Best Gaming Chairs for Console Gamers

In our Zoom In section below, we’ll take a closer look at our top 20 picks.

1. X Rocker Surge Bluetooth 2.1 Sound Gaming Chair

X Rocker Surge

The best gaming chair overall

Manufacturer: X Rocker | Type: Rocker | Colors: 1 | Materials: Breathable Mesh Fabric | Weight: 36 Pounds | Price: 💰💰

If you’re setting up a gaming room, you may as well go for the full package and get a couple gaming chairs. The Surge is priced a bit more reasonably, so if you’re looking to get 2 or more gaming chairs, this may be the one for you. The Surge comes with Bluetooth technology, allowing you to set it up with any Bluetooth enabled device. The good news? The sound is rich, and the bass is deep. Definitely a plus in our book.

Now to discuss the comfort factor. We’d put this chair up there with near Pro H3 comfort minus the armrests. You’re still going to be good to go for hours on end.

We do need to mention that you have to connect the chair to an outlet. Of course, if you’re setting in up in a living room that’s usually kept tidy, you’ll have to deal with some unsightly cables. Now in our opinion, it’s not a big deal once you see what this bad boy can do. But moms and SO’s may feel differently.

Fortunately, this chair is significantly lighter than the other options, so it is easier to put away once you’re done gaming. If your device/console does not have Bluetooth capability, you’ll also need to hook up to the TV using the 3.5 mm audio out. So if you’re going this route, make sure you use a longer cord. All in all, the chair is well-built and runs seamlessly once plugged in.

X Rocker Pro Series

The best gaming chair for Xbox Series X

Manufacturer: X Rocker | Type: Pedestal Chair | Colors: 1 | Materials: Faux-Leather & Padding | Weight: 53 Pounds | Price: 💰💰💰

As you probably know, there are quite a few gaming chair solutions available on the market today. But if we’d have to choose the most comfortable one, this would undoubtedly be it. Most gaming chair reviews rave about this model and, and for good reason. You can easily set it up in just minutes, and it syncs with wireless speakers in moments. Moreover, the sound quality is pretty decent (but if you’re an audiophile, it may let you down a bit).

The vibration is also pretty sweet with this model, but if you want bone-rattling power, you’ll need to crank it up to the maximum setting. If you’re a headphone/headset guy, you’ll be happy to know this model comes with extra ports for mp3 hookup and headphones. And don’t you worry about compatibility issues, as this bad boy works just fine with all major consoles. 7. X Rocker Pro H3

X Rocker Pro H3 Gaming Chair

The best gaming chair for PS5

Manufacturer: X Rocker | Type: Rocker | Colors: 1 | Materials: Padded Vinyl | Weight: 55 Pounds | Price: 💰💰💰

This is perhaps the best gaming chair for PS4 and PS5 on the market. It also happens to be one of the most expensive. When we first got this chair, we have to admit that we didn’t expect much from the speakers. However, when we turned them on, we were pleased with the sound quality. And the bass absolutely delivers the oomph we hoped for. You can certainly set it up to blast your ears if you very well please. Given the fact you can also use the chair speakers instead of the TV speakers, it overall makes the Pro H3 a versatile purchase. It’s pretty fun for listening to music and watching TV rather than using it solely for gaming.

The other features of the chair are spot on. The rocking motion is very smooth, which is what you’d expect from a manufacturer named X Rocker. Jokes aside, we frequently found ourselves rocking in the chair. The thick padding, build quality, and sleek aesthetic gives the chair an overall premium look and feel. If you care about vibration, then this model will not disappoint.

It has very powerful bass that puts you in the middle of things, especially when playing a game that has a lot of explosions or crashes. In fact, there are also extra vibration motors that can easily sync with the bass tones to enhance your gaming experience even more. From an immersion enthusiast point of view, we consider this to be hands down the best gaming chair out there.

11. X Rocker II Video Gaming Chair

X Rocker II Leather Gaming Chair

The best wireless gaming chair for console

Manufacturer: X Rocker | Type: Rocker | Colors: 1 | Materials: Vinyl | Weight: 35 Pounds | Price: 💰💰💰

The X Rocker II is an updated version of the company’s first successful chair. The main reason to upgrade, and it’s a significant one, is that this chair has wireless audio. However, you still need to run a cord to an AC power outlet to power the chair. But hey, that’s still one less cord to worry about tripping over!

Think about it. It’s never a treat to run back from the kitchen — snack in hand — only to trip over the cord and spill ketchup everywhere. Ugh!

This chair’s foldable design allows for easy storage. There is also a sound dial on the side to adjust the volume on the fly. And if you want to go stealth mode, there’s even a headphone jack to plug in your headset.

We like that the armrests can be flipped up or down depending on your intensity level. If you really get into the game and lean forward, it can be nice to flip these out of the way. Just like the other chairs on our list, X Rocker outfits their seating with durable upholstery, so unsightly tears won’t pop up after a couple months of use. Many people voice concerns that it doesn’t work with the PS4 and Xbox One, but that is not the case; this is compatible with all consoles.

  • USERS LIKE
  • Comfy oversized design
  • Connects with other X Rocker chairs
  • Immersive sound w/ two speakers and a subwoofer
  • USERS DISLIKE
  • Clunky folding design
  • Armrests begin to slip over time
  • The “wireless” design still requires a power cord

12. Big Joe Dorm Chair

Big Joe Dorm Smartmax

The best bean bag chair for console gamers

Manufacturer: Big Joe | Type: Bean Bag Chair | Colors: 5 | Materials: SmartMax Fabric & UltimaX Beans | Weight: 5 Pounds | Price: 💰

The Big Joe chair is one of the best selling bean bag chairs on the market. The SmartMax Fabric on this chair is pretty tough. It is also water-resistant and stain-resistant.

All the extras are nice too. You’ll find a built-in handle for portability, built-in pockets for things like water bottles / remotes / phones / books, and a zipper seal allowing you to refill this bean bag as needed (bean bag beans compress over time).

The UltimaX refill beans are sold separately but aren’t too costly. You’ll find six fun colors to choose from, including the zebra style pictured above! Another thing we really dig about this chair is that 10% of the profits get donated to numerous charities. Oh, and the company is totally eco-conscious (80% of their beans are made from recycled materials).

Gaming Chair Guide Part I: Benefits of Gaming Chairs

More and more gamers are replacing their old couches with console gaming chairs. And not only because they’re waaay more comfortable.

x-rocker-gaming-chair

Getting a new gaming chair is not about buying the first one that looks cool (although we do acknowledge this as a factor). Comfort, padding, functions, compatibility, and overall build quality are vital factors that contribute to the coolness of these trending gaming accessories.

They also offer a wide range of features, including built-in sound equipment, improved ergonomics, and enhanced immersion via vibration motors. This all combines to make your gaming experience truly unique and unforgettable.

Plus, your friends will give you the nod of approval when they come over and take a seat. Put simply, you’ll be more focused on the tasks at hand — like crushing your buddy ruthlessly — and less worried about bodily aches and pains.

How can gaming chairs help you enjoy your time in front of the big screen? Here are some of the top benefits of these unique chair solutions:

  • Sound. One of the best features of many gaming chairs is the fact they feature surround sound speakers built right into them. When you turn the chair on, you’re going to realize just how awesome surround sound is. Their ability to immerse you in your game of choice is unrivaled. Better yet, since higher-end gaming chairs also have wireless speakers, you’ll be able to enjoy a full, robust sound that puts you in the middle of the action. Some of these chairs have up to 4 speakers and even a powerful sub-woofer! You’ll definitely know when that grenade goes off right next to you.
  • Immersion Technology. A few select chairs also feature vibration motors that are synced with the game’s audio bass tones. Combined with a hefty sub-woofer, that’s a full-body sensation to be reckoned with. Whether or not this is up your alley, gaming chair manufacturers claim this technology delivers the most realistic gaming experience possible.
  • Storage. Do you have too little space in your room? Don’t want a chair that will make it look even smaller? No more worries, because many of the best gaming chairs fold up for easy storage. If you play games in the living room, then you’ll certainly use this feature a lot. But if you have a dedicated gaming room, you may not really need it.
  • Comfort. Since us gamers may, from time-to-time, spend up to 6 or even 12 hours in front of the screen (what? it was rainy outside), gaming chairs are built with comfort in mind. This means you won’t need to worry about feeling sore or tired after a long gaming session. And since they have excellent padding and back support, you’ll immediately feel the difference when replacing your old chair with a gaming chair.
  • Great gift. Sometimes gamers can be hard to shop for. A gift a lot of people never think of is a gaming chair, but it’s the perfect match for anyone who spends a good bit of time playing games. It’s the gift that keeps on giving.

Gaming Chair Guide Part II: 5 Types of Gaming Chairs

There are several gaming chair categories you should be aware of when shopping for the right gaming chair. Each type excels in specific departments and comes up short in others. Let’s have a look:

1. Bean Bag

Big Joe Bean Bag Gaming Chair
Example of a Bean Bag Gaming Chair

The bean bag chair has been around for quite some time and is not a new category by any means. Nonetheless, the bean bag gaming chair is essential to include in our list of gaming chair types.

It is a versatile seating option that allows the gamer to change their posture in any manner of ways and conforms to the body, offering plenty of support. These are also great for movie night — heat up a bag of popcorn and hop into your bean bag chair for a good time.

2. Rocker

X Rocker Pro H3 4.1 Audio Rocker Gaming Chair
Example of a Rocker Gaming Chair

The rocker gaming type chair is like the fidget spinner of the chair world. If you find your legs restless and going a mile a minute when you’re sitting, you will probably like a rocker chair. You can rock back and forth to your heart’s content, during, between, and after matches.

X Rocker is a big name in this category and has a vast number of offerings that are top-notch. Some of these chairs even have audio built-in, which makes your favorite titles even more immersive. Most rocker chairs also feature armrests, though some of the less expensive models (such as the X Rocker Fox) do not.

3. Pedestal

X-Rocker 2.1 Wireless Bluetooth Audi Pedestal Gaming Chair
Example of a Pedestal Gaming Chair

A variation of the rocker gaming chair is the pedestal gaming chair. Though you don’t get a full range of rocking motion, these chairs sort of bounce back and forth, much akin to a bobblehead motion. The X Rocker brand is also extremely popular in this category, as well.

The upside of these chairs? Like a traditional chair, they get you a little more vertical and up off the ground. However, they’re usually a little pricer than the chairs in our first three categories.

4. Arm Chair

X Rocker Triple Flip Armchair Gaming Chair
Example of an Armchair Gaming Chair

For those of you who don’t feel the need to rock, bounce, or swivel, the armchair gaming type chair is a great solution. This type of chair is more comparable to a home theatre type chair. They usually have stationary parts and sometimes offer a footrest.

Above, you can see X Rocker’s Triple Flip Chair featured. This particular model has storage located underneath, a perfect place for tucking away controllers and other peripherals.

5. Wheelbase

dxracer-drifting-series-racing-chair
Example of a Wheelbase Gaming Chair

The standard gaming chair with wheels generally incorporates the wheelbase design with 5 casters. PC gaming chairs are the best for sitting for long periods. Many manufacturers have incorporated ergonomic elements into these chairs to aid the user in maintaining a healthy posture. Wheelbase type gaming chairs were not often used for TV gaming, but it is becoming more popular to use one of these chairs for console gaming.

Some of the most expensive chairs can be found in this category, such as the DXRacer brand of chairs. These are modeled after a race car style seat. They look flashy, and some of their top models even recline. This makes it possible to take little cat naps in between bouts of gaming.

Gaming Chair Guide Part III: 3 Most Important Gaming Chair Features

Best Gaming Chairs for Console Gamers TV

No matter which type of gaming chair you opt for, there are certain features to keep in mind.

1. Ergonomics

It’s the age-old adage: ergonomics are essential.

Okay, I just made that up. But they really are.

Ergonomics refers to a chair’s overall design and how it relates to the human body. This relationship takes into account the chair’s features (like recline and adjustability), comfort levels, and how simple it is to use.

Naturally, snagging a gaming chair with superior ergonomics is a smart choice. Depending on the type of gaming chair your choose, you’ll want to look for options with height control, tension control, headrest & lumbar cushioning, armrest adjustability, and/or backrest tilt. Every little feature adds up to offer better support and provide a healthful gaming experience. Trust me — your body will thank you for it.

2. Materials

The best gaming chairs come equipped with various types of materials. Depending on the model, you may encounter natural fabrics, mesh, vinyl, suede, faux leather, genuine leather, and/or a mix of different coverings. Choosing the right one can be tricky.

Our recommendation? If you tend to run hot, a fabric or mesh gaming chair is ideal. If you run cold (or you live on the frozen tundra), opt for a thicker material like vinyl or leather. Also, keep in mind durability. Thicker materials are usually more durable and resistant to wear. A happy balance between all the materials is PU leather, and you’ll find many gaming chairs using it.

3. Style

What’s the point of an epic gaming setup if it doesn’t have a little swag?

Fortunately, gaming chairs come in all shapes, sizes, and colors, meaning you can find the perfect fit for your unique style.

If you’re into flashy colors, a racing-style pedestal seat or bean bag is probably the way to go. They often feature bright blues, neon yellows, and colors of that nature.

Meanwhile, you’ll find that arm chairs and rockers tend to be a little bit more neutral, making them ideal for shared spaces.

Lastly, wheelbase chairs give your space a more “professional” look, and you can use them for both PC and console gaming.

Gaming Chair Guide Part IV: A Word of Warning about Audio Gaming Chair Setup

We recommend that all our readers interested in picking up one of the gaming chairs with audio read the specs very carefully. Depending on your TV, sound system, and gaming system, compatibility issues may arise.

Fortunately, with universal audio adapter kits, these issues can usually be solved without too much trouble. Keep in mind, some chairs even have specific wireless kits the manufacturer recommends. If the chair uses Bluetooth technology, that usually makes things a little easier, as you can purchase one of the many Bluetooth dongles.

Gaming Chair Audio Plugged In
Audio Gaming Chairs Need Power and Sometimes Audio Cables

Remember, these chairs are not truly wireless. Even though many of the chairs are advertised as “wireless,” they still need a power cord run to them to work. So even if the audio syncs up with your TV, sound system, or console, you’ll still have at least one cord running to the chair.

For example, the X Rocker II comes with a power cable and a wireless adapter unit. For this chair to work, you must connect the red/white audio cable to your TV, and then the other end plugs into the little wireless unit. As long as the setting on the box is matched with the setting on the chair, audio setup should be complete. For example if “2” is selected on the chair, use “2” on the box as well. On this chair, the wireless unit requires two triple A batteries.

As a side note, different consoles may require an adapter depending on your set up. Fortunately, most issues aren’t overly troublesome to solve. In addition to the instructions that come with the chair, X Rocker and most other manufacturers have a customer support line that will assist you if need be. The most common issue with getting these chairs working are older TVs that are incompatible because they do not have red and white audio out ports.

Most of their chairs have 2 speakers and a subwoofer built-in, such as the Pro Series Pedestal 2.1. The subwoofer uses innovative Audio Force Modulation Technology for a total “sound immersion experience.” This means you will not only hear the sound but actually feel it too. Pretty cool.

Some weigh in at about 50 pounds, so their chairs aren’t necessarily easy to move around. But it should be do-able if you’re keeping them in storage during non-gaming hours.

If you have any other lingering questions about these chairs, Rocker Nation has a helpful FAQ page you can check out. X Rocker indeed leads in the video game chair arena with their deep line-up, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t other great options. We hope you enjoyed our list of the top console gaming chairs.

Happy Gaming!
