Zoom Out: 20 Best TV Gaming Chairs Comparison Table
Here is a compiled list of the best and most popular gaming chairs.
Gaming Chair Guide Part I: Benefits of Gaming Chairs
If you really want to immerse yourself in every game you play, then you need to start learn more about these cushy gaming chairs. These days it seems that a lot of gamers are replacing their old couch with console gaming chairs and that is not only because they are more comfortable.
They also offer a wide range of features, including better sound quality, improved ergonomics, and enhanced immersion via vibration motors to make your gaming experience truly unique and unforgettable. Plus your friends will give you the nod of approval when they come over and take a seat. Put simply, you’ll be more focused on the tasks at hand, like crushing your buddy ruthlessly and less worried about bodily aches and pains. How can gaming chairs help you enjoy your time in front of the big screen? Here are some of the top benefits of these unique chair solutions:
- Sound. Probably one of the best features of gaming chairs is the fact they feature surround sound speakers built right into them. While initially it may not sound like such a big deal, when you turn the chair on you’re going to realize just how awesome surround sound is—and its ability to immerse you in your game of choice. Better yet, since higher end gaming chairs also have wireless speakers, you’ll be able to enjoy a full, robust sound that puts you in the middle of the action. Some of the these chairs have 4 speakers and a powerful sub-woofer. You’ll definitely know when that grenade goes off right next to you.
- Immersion Technology. A few select chairs also feature vibration motors that are synced with the game’s audio bass tones. Combined with a hefty sub-woofer, that’s a full body sensation to be reckoned with. Whether or not this is up your alley, gaming chair manufacturers claim this technology delivers the most realistic gaming experience possible.
- Storage. Do you have too little space in your room and don’t want a chair that will make it look even smaller? Have no worries, because most of these chairs easily fold up and can then be stored away. If you play games in the living room, then you’ll certainly use this feature a lot, but if you have a dedicated gaming room, you may not really need it.
- Comfort. Since us gamers may from time-to-time spend up to 6 or even 12 hours in front of the screen (what? it was rainy outside), gaming chairs are built with comfort in mind. This means you won’t need to worry about feeling sore or tired after a long gaming session. Since they have excellent padding and back support, you’ll immediately feel the difference when replacing your old chair with a gaming chair.
- Great gift. Sometimes gamers can be hard to shop for. A gift a lot of people never think of is a gaming chair, but it’s the perfect match for anyone who spends a good bit of time playing games. It’s the gift that keeps giving.
Gaming Chair Guide Part II: A Word of Warning about Audio Type Gaming Chairs
We recommend that all our readers interested in picking up one of the gaming chairs with audio reading the specs very carefully. Depending on your TV, sound system, and gaming system, compatibility issues may arise. Fortunately, with universal audio adapter kits, these issues can usually be solved without too much trouble. Keep in mind, some chairs even have specific wireless kits the manufacturer recommends. If the chair uses Bluetooth technology, that usually makes things a little easier as you can purchase one of the many Bluetooth dongles.
Remember, these chairs are not truly wireless. Even though many of the chairs are advertised as “wireless” they still need a power cord run to them to work. So even if the audio syncs up with your TV, sound system, or console, you’ll still have at least one cord running to the chair.
Zoom In: Our Top 10 Best Gaming Chairs Picks for Console Gamers
In our “Zoom Out” section we provided an overview of the top 20 chairs, here we take a closer look at our top 10 picks.
Getting a new gaming chair is not about buying the first one that looks cool and may be a perfect match with your bedroom’s decor (although we do acknowledge that is a factor). Comfort, padding, functions, compatibility and overall build quality are vital factors that need to be taken into consideration before you make a purchase.
X Rocker Gaming Chairs
We feel obligated to introduce these guys. X Rocker are pioneers of the gaming chair market and have pushed some boundaries when it comes to crafting the ideal gaming throne. These video game rocker chairs are designed specifically for console gamers. After all, these chairs are really comfortable, and look sharp enough to go in living room, office, or game room. Furthermore, these chairs have some ergonomics implemented into their design, to provide maximum comfort. While the leather is nice, it does get warm over long periods of gaming.
Most of their chairs have 2 speakers and a subwoofer built-in such as the Pro Series Pedestal 2.1. The subwoofer uses innovative Audio Force Modulation Technology for a total “sound immersion experience.” This means you will not only hearing the sound but actually feel it too. Pretty cool. Some weighing in at about 50 pounds, their chairs aren’t necessarily easy to move around, but do-able if you’re keeping them in storage during non-gaming hours.
If you have any other lingering questions about these chairs Rocker Nation has a helpful FAQ page you can check out.
The X Rocker II is upgraded version of their first successful chair. The main reason, and it’s a significant one, is that the chair has wireless audio. However, you still need to run an cord to an AC power outlet to power the chair. But hey, that’s still one less cord to worry about tripping over. It’s never a treat to run back from the kitchen with snack in hand only to trip over the cord and spill ketchup everywhere. If you want to go stealth mode there is a headphone jack to conveniently plug in your headset.
The foldable design allows for easy storage. There is a sound dial on the side to adjust the volume on the fly. We like that the arm rests can be flipped up or down depending on your intensity level. If you really get into the game and lean forward it can be nice to flip these out of the way. Just like the other chairs below, X Rocker outfits their chairs with durable upholstery, so unsightly tears won’t pop up after a couple months of use. Many people voice concerns that it doesn’t work with the PS4 and Xbox One but that is not the case, this is compatible with all consoles.
Setting up the chair: The X Rocker II comes with the red/white audio cable, one end plugs into your TV and the other end plugs into a little wireless unit that comes with the chair. Make sure the setting on the box is matched with the setting on the chair. For example if “2” is selected on the chair use “2” on the box as well. Don’t forget that the wireless unit requires two triple A batteries. As a side note different consoles may require an adapter depending on your set up, most issues aren’t overly troublesome to solve. In addition to the instructions that come with the chair, X Rocker has a customer support line that will assist you if need be. The most common issue is older TVs that are incompatible because they do not have red and white audio out ports.
HGG’s Award for Best Chair for Long Hours of Gaming
This is perhaps the best gaming chair on the market. It also happens to be one of the most expensive. When we first got this chair we have to admit that we also didn’t expect much from the speakers. However, when we turned it on we were pleased with the sound quality and the bass does deliver the oomph we hoped for. You can certainly set it up to blast your ears if you very well please. Given the fact you can also use the chair speakers instead of the TV speakers it overall makes the Pro H3 a versatile purchase. It’s pretty fun for listening to music and watching TV rather than using it solely for gaming.
The other features of the chair are spot on. The rocking motion is very smooth, which is what you’d expect from a manufacturer named X Rocker. Jokes aside we frequently found ourselves rocking in the chair. The thick padding, build quality, and sleek aesthetic gives the chair an overall premium look and feel. If you care about vibration, then this model will not disappoint.
It has very powerful bass that puts you in the middle of things, especially when playing a game that has a lot of explosions or crashes. In fact, there are also extra vibration motors that can easily sync with the bass tones to enhance your gaming experience even more. From an immersion enthusiast point of view, we consider this to be hands down the best gaming chair out there.
HGG’s Award for Best Gaming Chair for PS4
As you probably know, there are quite a few gaming chair solutions available on the market today, but if we’d have to choose the most comfortable one, this would certainly be it. Most gaming chair reviews online rave about this model and for good reason. You can easily set it up in just minutes and sync the wireless speakers in moments. The sound quality is decent, but if you’re an audiophile it may let you down a bit.
The vibration is also pretty sweet with this model, but if you wantbone rattling power you’ll need to crank it up to the maximum setting. If you’re a headphone/headset guy, you’ll be happy to know this model comes with extra ports for mp3 hookup and headphones. And don’t you worry about compatibility issues, this bad boy works just fine with the Xbox One and PS4. If you are looking for a video gaming chair like this one without the pedestal the X Rocker Pro Series above is another excellent option.
HGG’s Awards for Best Gaming Chair for Xbox One & Best Pedestal Gaming Chair
If you’re setting up a gaming room, you may as well go for the full package and get a couple gaming chairs. The Surge is priced a bit more reasonably so if you’re looking to get 2 or more gaming chairs this may be the one for you. The Surge comes with Bluetooth technology allowing you to set it up with any Bluetooth enabled device. Now to discuss the comfort factor. We’d put this chair up there with near Pro H3 comfort minus the armrests. You’re still going to be good to go for hours on end. The sound is rich and the bass deep, definitely a plus in our book.
We do need to mention that you have to connect the chair to an outlet. Of course if you’re setting in up in a living room that’s usually kept tidy you’ll have to deal with some unsightly cables. Now in our opinion it’s not a big deal and once you see what this bad boy can do, but Mom’s and SO’s may feel differently.
Fortunately this chair is significantly lighter than the other options so it is easier to put away once you’re done gaming. If you’re device/console does not have Bluetooth capability you’ll also need to hook up to the TV using the 3.5 mm audio out. So if you’re going this route, make sure you use a longer cord. All in all, the chair is well-built and runs seamlessly once plugged in.
HGG’s Award for Best Gaming Rocker
The Triple Flip gaming chair is designed more like your traditional arm chair. One of the first things you notice about the chair is its solid compact build. Even if you’re on the taller side (over 6 foot) it will still envelop you nicely. Since it comes fully assembled, the only thing you’ll have to worry about is connecting it to your TV.
One thing we find unique about it is the storage compartment under the chair where you can store my DVDs, games, controllers, headsets, and other such gaming paraphernalia. Just so you know, this is also a 2.1 chair which is capable of delivering quality sound that’s acceptable for both gaming and listening to music. Lastly, given the fact we can also turn it into a comfortable footrest or bench, it certainly wins the award for being the most functional gaming chair.

Other Video Game Chairs
It’s true that X Rocker dominates the video game chair arena with their deep line-up but that doesn’t mean there aren’t other great options. We found a few more video gaming chairs that we think are worth a gander.
We really love the look and foldable design of this chair. High quality bonded leather with red trim, and easy to fold and haul around. The downside of this chair is that it is really meant for teenagers or kids. If you’re a skinny, shorter adult you’ll also fit fine in this chair. It uses a wired connection to produce audio and your normal wall outlet for power. Another warning is that this chair isn’t the most comfortable. For youngins its probably fine but it definitely doesn’t have as much cushion as some of our other options.
HGG’s Award for Best Folding Gaming Chair
Hey look! Its not an X Rocker chair. Cohesion is not as well known as X Rocker in the gaming chair space. That doesn’t mean they don’t make some durable, quality chairs. They are also notably a bit less expensive in general than the X Rocker line-up. The Cohesion 8.1 is a lightweight chair that is reasonably priced. Cohesion, like X Rocker, is aware that us gamers can spend a lot of time sitting in a chair and that comfort is a key feature for most of us. So what did they do? They stacked the Cohesion XP 2.1 with extra thick foam padding that makes it a joy to sit on for hours on end.
The other wonderful thing about this chair is its foldable design. They’ve also realized the living room is a crowded place. You’ve probably already got too much stuff taking up too much space. Fold the XP 2.1 up and easily stow it away when gaming comes to an end. The rest of the features are what you’d expect: a cool control panel with headphone jack, volume control, and a wired receiver with two speakers. For the price, the XP 2.1 is simply one of the best value propositions in the gaming chair category.
HGG’s Award for the Best Gaming Chair for the Money
If you’re looking for something simple that doesn’t clash with living room decor this memory foam floor chair is a great option. It is smaller and perfect for kids. It is really light and has 14 different positions. Whether kids are napping, playing games, reading, or watching TV, they will be able to find a comfortable position. A lot of parents like this chair because it folds all the way flat, so you can stow it away under couches and chairs when not in use. BirdRock offers this chair in 5 stylish colors.
HGG’s Award for Best Gaming Chair for Kids
If you don’t really want to mess with a gaming chair with speakers, you may want to try the Imperial Video Rocker Gaming Chair. It is a no frills chair offered in four colors. Upholstered with microfiber and mesh, it is soft and easy to clean. This chair also folds down to just 15 inches in height (from 30 inches in height) making storage a bit easier. The hardwood frame allows the chair to be rocked back and forth which kids like to do when watching movies, reading, or playing video games.
HGG’s Award for Best Gaming Chair without Speakers
The Big Joe chair is one of the best selling bean bag chairs on the market. The SmartMax Fabric on this chair is pretty tough. It is water resistant and stain resistant. All the extras are nice too. You’ll find a built in handle for portability, built in pockets for things like water bottles / remotes / phones / books, and a zipper seal allowing you to refill this bean bag as needed (bean bag beans will compress over time). The UltimaX refill beans are sold separately but aren’t too costly. You’ll find six fun colors to choose from, including the zebra style pictured above! Another thing we really dig about this chair is that 10% of the profits get donated to numerous charities and the fact they are eco-conscious (80% of their beans are made from recycled materials).
