Does Splitgate Have Crossplay and Cross Progression?

Splitgate has only officially been out for a short time, but even with it being only Season 0, it’s already carved out a niche for itself thanks to its unique premise. With a wide range of available weapons and expert-level maneuvers like Triple-Portaling, now is the time to jump in and refine your skills while the game is still young.

Of course, the best way to play a multiplayer shooter is with friends, which can be difficult if you’re all playing on different platforms. Thankfully, most modern FPS titles have begun leveraging cross-play to make playing between platforms a possibility, but does Splitgate have crossplay? And how about cross progression?

Let’s find out!

Does Splitgate Have Crossplay?

Splitgate is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X. Crossplay is supported on all of these platforms, making it possible to play with anyone regardless of what device they have. Having an open matchmaking pool has ensured that the concurrent player count remains consistently high, allowing for matchmaking times to be incredibly low.

Will Splitgate Be Available on Nintendo Switch and Mobile?

At this time, there is no word of Splitgate becoming available on Nintendo Switch or mobile devices. If you take into account the porting timeline for more recent multiplayer titles like Apex Legends, it may take anywhere from 1–2 years after the initial launch for it to hit the Switch. The mobile version is another story, and could potentially come earlier or not at all depending on developer priorities.

In any case, if Splitgate comes to either platform, there’s a good chance that a more limited cross-play experience will be attached depending on performance. That may introduce console-only pools for mobile and Switch players to avoid being crowded out by the more performance-heavy PC option. Of course, this is all just speculation, and we’ll be sure to update you if word of a port emerges.

How to Use Crossplay in Splitgate

Similar to how Bungie created Bungie IDs to help manage multiple platform profiles in Destiny 2, the developers of Splitgate have developed their own ID system. Your Splitgate ID is a unique player number assigned to you that can be searched for in order to help your friends connect with you.

To find your ID number, head on over to the Social Tab and click “Add Friends.” This will cause your ID to appear, making it easy to send over to a friend or search for theirs instead. Once you’ve added on another, you’ll be able to create cross-platform parties and invite anyone in your friends’ list.

Can You Turn Off Crossplay in Splitgate?

You may find that having crossplay active leads to a more difficult experience depending on the platform you’re playing on. Or you end up having friends shift to the same platform as you, and you’d just rather play within one ecosystem. In that case, you do actually have the option to turn off crossplay.

To turn off crossplay, head to your settings and select Privacy. Uncheck the box for crossplay support and you’ll then only matchmake with players on the same platform. If you decide that you want to have access to crossplay again, simply check the box in settings again, and you’ll be good to go.

Does Splitgate Have Cross Progression?

The other part of being able to play success across different platforms is cross progression. Unfortunately, Splitgate doesn’t have cross progression enabled at this time, meaning that you can’t start playing on PC and expect to bring your progress over with you to console.

The good news is that with crossplay already enabled and a uniform ID system in place, it could potentially be implemented at a later time. Hopefully, with all of that infrastructure in place, it won’t take too much time and we’ll see it pop up whenever Season 1 is announced.

For such a young game, the fact that Splitgate already has crossplay available for every single platform it’s on is extremely impressive. It encourages players to jump in wherever they’d like without the concern of never getting to play with friends on other platforms. It’s the start of an already healthy and vibrant community that’s sure to just keep growing.
