Fallout 76 may not have had the best launch, but the game is in a much better spot now than it was years ago. With the release of the Wastlanders DLC, we got some much-needed questing content added to the game, as well as the introduction of human NPCs you could talk and interact with. But just how do you start the Wastelanders DLC, and what do you need to get started? We’ll cover these questions and more in this article explaining how to start the Wastelanders DLC in Fallout 76!
Without further ado, let’s get right into this guide.
Prerequisites to Starting
Before you start the DLC, you’ll want to hit Level 20. While you can play through a small part of the DLC without being at a certain level, you’ll eventually encounter enemies that require you to be Level 20 to defeat them. Because of this, I recommend leveling up before you start the first quest, that way your immersion isn’t broken when you hit the requirement and have to stop to grind.
You can level up easily by completing quests and killing enemies. The main story of Fallout 76 can be played regardless of level, which is what many players do to level up to play the DLC. You can increase your intelligence to level up faster if things are going too slowly. I recommend checking out our leveling guide for Fallout 76 if you want some more tips and tricks on how to level up fast in order to do the DLC.
Starting the DLC
Now onto the most important part…starting the actual DLC. You are going to want to fast-travel to Vault 76, the place where you first spawn at during the start of the game. Go there, and just outside the vault will be two female NPCs. Approach them and engage in conversation, as this leads to you being given your first quest for the DLC.
Next, you will have to travel to a nearby interior location to the south of the vault. There will be a yellow quest marker on your map showing exactly where you need to go. All you need to do is walk into the bar. Everything else should be pretty straightforward and self-explanatory from here on out. Eventually, you’ll end up at the Overseer’s house. This is where that level requirement I mentioned earlier kicks in, but that shouldn’t be a problem if you’re Level 20 already.
