Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader Upperway Motive Force Puzzle Guide

Learn to weave the Motive Force like the Tech-Priests and read this puzzle guide for Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader!

While exploring Rykad Minoris in Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader, you’ll eventually come across The Upperway. If you explore a bit you’ll find the site of a heretical ritual and grueling fight. Once dispersing the Emperor’s justice and taking care of any traps that are lying around, you’ll probably discover a locked safe on the north wall of the area. Opening this safe requires entreating the machine spirits and manipulating the Motive Force.

 If you’re having some trouble with this puzzle then have no fear. In this guide we’ll go over how to solve the puzzle and get the goodies inside.

1. Power the Cogitator

The first step in this puzzle is to actually power the cogitator to the left of the safe. This will take a logic check, but with Pasqal joining your retinue earlier in the mission you should be fine.

2. Close the Relay

After turning on the cogitator, your next step is to close the relay in the southwest corner of the room. This is a Tech-use check, but Pasqal should have this covered as well.  Be warned however, there are several relays around the room, but not all of them are used for the puzzle.

3. Unlatch the Damper

Moving on, we need to unlatch the damper in the center of the room. 

4. Distribute Supply of the Motive Force

Next, in the southeast corner of the room you need to distribute supply of the motive force. There are two generators that supply the motive force; you want to activate the one farthest south. Be careful though, as there are traps littered all around this area. Get someone with high Demolitions like Argenta to take care of them to avoid any mishaps.

5. Close the Relay (Northeast)

Once again we need to close a relay. This relay is going to be found in the northeast of the room by the stairs leading into the sewers.

6. Unlock the Safe

Once you’re down unlock the safe and gather your well earned loot. You’ll receive a Hand Flamer and a Stubcarbine. It’s not much, but the XP is a nice bonus.

A shop enters your peripheral vision. You turn toward it. It looks welcoming enough. You think, "Hmm, well maybe just a quick peek..."

Go Past No, not today. Onward!

You speed past the shop with nary a glance in its direction. ×
