Ever since its release back in 2016, Pokémon Go has been one most popular mobile games available. The game allows players to get out and explore the IRL world while catching many different types of Pokémon while doing it. As the name implies, fire types use flame-based abilities to do battle. They are some of the deadliest and most sought-after creatures in the game. And here in this article, we are going to be giving you a list of our top 10 picks for the best fire-type Pokémon in Pokémon Go, ranked from good to best.
Fire-Type Pokémon Overview
Before we dive into our list of the 10 best picks, let’s briefly go over what makes fire-type Pokémon so desirable in combat. For starters, all Pokémon of this type are effective against certain elements such as ice, bug, grass, and steel. These four types are fairly common, so it’s important to always have a good fire-type Pokémon ready to be deployed.
Pokémon of this type are weak at dealing damage against water, rock, and dragon-type Pokémon, as well as Pokémon that also belong to the fire class. Additionally, water, rock, and ground-type Pokémon will do increased damage to fire-types. This means you’ll need to be careful when facing off against these respective elements. Fire element Pokémon also features some of the best attacks in the game, such as Fire Spin and Flamethrower.
One of the starter Pokémon in the game–Charmander–is a fire-type. Therefore, you can easily get your hands on a fire-type early on, just know that you’re sacrificing a water or grass type for it. There are a lot of benefits to using a fire-type Pokémon in your team. Fire types have some of the best quick attacks in the game. And a lot of fire types have high attack stats. This all makes them great aggressive companions in battle.
Top 10 Best Fire Type Pokémon in Pokémon Go, Ranked From Good to Best
What are we waiting for, then? Let’s get right into the ranking of the best fire type Pokémon in Pokémon Go, Ranked From Good to Best!
Flareon
- Generation: 1
- Number of evolutions: 1
- Attack stat: 246
- Stamina stat: 163
- Defense stat: 179
- Max CP: 3424
The first fire type Pokémon that we have on our list is Flareon. This is one of several different evolutions that can come from the Eevee, a normal-type Pokémon. A Flareon is small in stature, with long pointy airs, orangish-red fur, and a big thick light-yellowish tail. Flareons were with the game when it first launched back in 2016. It is certainly one of the more eye-catching Pokémon on this list, but does its performance in battle match its fiery appearance? I’d say yes!
This Pokémon features 246 for its attack stat, which is pretty good. However, its stamina and defense stats are much lower, sitting at 163 and 179 respectively. Despite this downside, its good attack power makes up for it. This Pokémon as a whole isn’t that good when compared to most other Pokémon in the game, but it is still pretty solid, and in my opinion it’s underrated.
Talonflame
- Generation: 6
- Number of evolutions: 2
- Attack stat: 176
- Stamina stat: 186
- Defense stat: 155
- Max CP: 2493
Talonflame is an avian Pokémon with a red and gray color palette, as well as an eagle-like design. It was added to Pokémon Go during the holiday season of late 2020. If you are looking to get this Pokémon, you will first need to get a Fletchling, Then you will have to give it 100 candies and it will turn into a Talonflame.
Stat-wise, the Talonflame features an attack of 176 and a defense of 186. Both of these numbers are decent, but nothing outstanding. Its defense stat is lower at 155, which makes that its biggest downside. Its best attack is the Fire Spin, which is excellent in most situations. Talonflame has good DPS which makes it a solid pick for any team roaster.
Salazzle
- Generation: 7
- Number of evolutions: 1
- Attack stat: 228
- Stamina stat: 169
- Defense stat: 130
- Max CP: 2802
Salazzle is a popular Pokémon that features a dark gray and pink color palette, with a model that looks like a big lizard. This Pokémon was first added to the game on April 3rd, back in 2022. If you are looking to add this Pokémon to your Pokedex, you will need to first capture a Salandit. Then you will need to give it a total of 50 candies for it to transform into a Salazzle. Keep in mind that it will need to be a girl Salandit in order for it to work.
The attack power is the most impressive thing about this Pokémon, sitting at a pretty 228. Its stamina is noticeably lower, being only 169. And last and most certainly least we have its defense stat, which is only 130. The high attack makes this a really great damage dealing Pokémon, but thanks to its low defense it can easily be taken down by enemy players. It’s sort of like a “glass cannon” character that you should use the utmost care for in battle.
Moltres
- Generation: 1
- Number of evolutions: 0
- Attack stat: 244
- Stamina stat: 182
- Defense stat: 152
- Max CP: 3112
Coming up next, we have the Pokémon Moltres! Visually speaking, this has to be my favorite fire-type Pokémon in the entire game. It takes on the appearance of a phoenix, with a red, orange, and yellow color scheme. It features fiery wings and an overall avian appearance. It first came to Pokémon Go four years ago, back in the summer of 2019. If you want to acquire this Pokémon, you will need to do a Raid Battle. This is the only way that you can catch a Moltres in the game.
The highest stat for the Moltres is its attack, which is 251. This is a pretty high number. Following that, we have its stamina which is at 207. And last and most certainly least, we have its defense stats, which is 181. This is another great damage dealer that has higher stats than the Salazzle. This allows it to be great at offense without some of the downsides. It is also resistant to a lot of different elements, making its defensive capabilities even better.
Reshiram
- Generation: 5
- Number of evolutions: 0
- Attack stat: 284
- Stamina stat: 194
- Defense stat: 154
- Max CP: 3622
Reshiram is a really sick legendary Pokémon with pure white fur and a draconic appearance. It is huge, which makes sense as it is one of several different dragon types in the game. Good luck trying to fit this one in your living room in AR mode! This Pokémon has been in the game for three years, having been first added to the game back in May of 2020. Ever since it has been a great addition to anyone’s collection, and it’s one that I strongly recommend you pick up.
Enough about the basics, let’s get into its stats. The attack power for this Pokémon is 275, which is pretty impressive. Its stamina is at 205, which is pretty decent but nothing outstanding. And its defense sits at 211. This makes it very solid and well-rounded, with good damage to boot. This is a good dragon-type Pokémon, so if you want to have a dragon on your team you should consider getting this one.
Magmortar
- Generation: 4
- Number of evolutions: 1
- Attack stat: 242
- Stamina stat: 184
- Defense stat: 150
- Max CP: 3082
Magmortar is a big and imposing creature with a red and yellow color palette and a wide body. Magmortar was first brought into the game back in November of 2018, making this Pokémon a bit older than most of the others on this list. If you want this Pokémon, first capture a Magmar. Then you will need to collect a Sinnoh Stone and 100 candies. Take both of these things and use them on your Magmar to evolve it into a Magmortar.
The attack power for this Pokémon is pretty high at 247. It has a lower stamina of 181 and an even lower defense of 172. Both of these stats are not that bad, however. This is a pretty underrated Pokémon that I don’t see very many people using. It is very good with powered-charged attacks, allowing it to make quick work of any unfortunate souls crossing its path. The defense is a bit of a downside, but there are other Pokémon with much lower defense.
Mega Charizard X
- Generation: 1
- Number of evolutions: 2
- Attack stat: 273
- Stamina stat: 186
- Defense stat: 213
- Max CP: 4353
For our next pick, we have the Mega X Charizard! This is one of two different mega evolutions you can get for the Pokémon Charizard. Its color palette is completely different, with a black and blue look to it instead of the regular orange appearance. This Pokémon has been in the game since the summer of 2016, which is when the game first launched. To get one for yourself, first, take a regular Charzard and evolve it with a total of 100 Mega Energy. Then select the X variant instead of the Y variant.
The attack power of this Pokémon is 273, which is pretty high (though not as high as the Y variant). Its stamina is 186 and its defense stat is 213. So overall, it’s a pretty good Pokémon, I just don’t think that it is as good or useful in battle as the Y variant is. Regardless, it is still a really solid evolution of Charizard with a high attack stat that makes it a blast for battling with. I recommend that you get the Y variant first and then get this one afterward if you want to add it to your collection.
Mega Houndoom
- Generation: 2
- Number of evolutions: 1
- Attack stat: 267
- Stamina stat: 212
- Defense stat: 174
- Max CP: 3792
Mega Houndoo is a large and imposing dog-like creature is white and gray in color and features two large horns atop its head. The creature was added to the game back in early 2017. To acquire a Mega Houndoom, you will first need to catch a regular Houndoom out in the wild. Then, to transform it into a Mega variant, you will need to get 100 Mega Energy and use it on your Houndoom.
Stat-wise, it has a lot of improvements over the regular Houndoom. Its attack is much higher, sitting at 289 instead of 224. The stamina, however, is the same, sitting at 181. But its defense is higher at 194 instead of 144. The DPS on this thing is great, and it’s one of the better Pokémon in the game for attacking grass-type and electric-type enemies. So if you need something that specializes in that area, here is a good one for you to consider.
Mega Blaziken
- Generation: 3
- Number of evolutions: 2
- Attack stat: 313
- Stamina stat: 224
- Defense stat: 196
- Max CP: 4282
Mega Blaziken is a mega variant of the Pokémon Blaziken. It looks pretty similar to the regular Blaziken, with a red, white, and black color palette and an overall humanoid shape. This Pokémon was just recently added to the game, back in the month of December of 2022. To get this Pokémon, you will need to use Mega Energy to upgrade your regular Blaziken.
Its attack power is a STAGGERINGLY high 329. It’s stamina is much less than that, at 190 (which is still good). And its defense is at 168, which is less than ideal but not a huge downside. Being a hybrid between fire and fighting types, it is one of the best offensive Pokémon there is. Mega Blazikens also have access to a large number of different moves for them to use. By far my most favorite one is Focus Blast, which deals a total fo 140 damage to enemies!
Mega Charizard Y
- Generation: 1
- Number of evolutions: 2
- Attack stat: 283
- Stamina stat: 236
- Defense stat: 203
- Max CP: 4773
And for first place in our ranking of the best fire type Pokémon in Pokémon Go goes to Mega Y Charizard! Charizard is easily one of the most recognizable Pokémon in the series. This is the Mega Y variant of one, which features a more exaggerated and demon-like appearance. This was a part of the game’s launch back in the summer of 2016. Since then, it has been one of the more popular fire-type Pokémon. To get this Pokémon, first, get a regular Charzard and then use 200 Mega Energy on it.
The stats for this Pokémon are pretty impressive. Its attack is 319, which is incredibly high. Additionally, its stamina is 186, which is a bit on the low side but is still not bad. And finally, its defense stat is 212, which is pretty good. This is without a doubt the BEST fire-type Pokémon in the game. It has one of the highest attack stats, which already puts it at a big advantage. Most high-damage Pokémon also have low defense, but this one has pretty good stats.
